In this study, a measurement of the production cross section of Standard Model Z bosons in proton-proton collisions in the decay channel Z to tau tau is performed with data of 1.34 fb-1 - 1.55fb-1 recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The generation of vector boson mass via the Higgs mechanism in the Standard Model has been confirmed by the 2012 discovery of a candidate Higgs boson in the H&rarr;WW, H&rarr;ZZ, and H&rarr;&gamma;&gamma; decay channels. This thesis presents the results of the search for the Standard Model Higgs boson, decaying to tau leptons, and produced in association with a leptonically decaying vector boson. Using the ATLAS detector at the LHC, the analysis is performed on 20.3 inverse femtobarn of proton-proton collisions recorded in 2012 at 8 TeV centre-of-mass energy. The analysis is made robust through the development of a background estimation method which uses Monte-Carlo simulation for the irreducible backgrounds and a data-driven estimation for the reducible backgrounds. This thesis presents three differing approaches to the search for the Standard Model Higgs boson decaying to tau leptons using ps = 7 TeV protonproton collision data from the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Multi-variate analysis techniques involving boosted decision trees are used to extend an existing cut-based analysis procedure. The expected 95% confidence level upper limit on the observed cross-section is compared between the analyses. A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via Vector Boson Fusion using the optimal observable method is presented. The analysis exploits the decay mode of the Higgs boson into a pair of tau leptons in the decay channels H → TlTl and H → TlT_had and is based on 20.3 fb⁻¹ of proton-proton collision data at √s = 8 Tev collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. This thesis outlines the search for neutral Higgs bosons in a mass range of m<sub>H/A</sub> = 200 GeV − 1.2 TeV, decaying to a pair of hadronically decaying tau leptons.
