Abstract Following Enkvist's method for establishing style markers, one 'positive' and one 'negative' marker of modern Arabic-Hebrew prose translations are constituted through a comparison of the translations with their respective original texts. A complementary intra-language study of original Hebrew prose fiction, which revealed the same style markers, shows that the findings are not translation-specific, but rather a language-bound phenomenon. Although the findings for Hebrew translations from English and German concerning the 'negative' style marker do not concur with the findings in the t

Using a range of examples from texts of international organizations, it discusses the translation of reporting verbs and intensification as a signal of the translator’s/interpreter’s degree of ‘investment’ in a proposition and control over the text receiver’s resp

Immunocytochemistry describes methods for visualization of specific intracellular molecules within cells. These methods use high affinity markers to specifically bind to target molecules in tissues or cells. For electron microscopy, the sites where these markers are bound are visualized using electron opaque probes. Successful immunocytochemistry depends upon immobilization of target molecules, retention of subcellular morphology, and upon total accessibility of affinity marker to the target molecules.Accessibility to extracellular molecules is not usually a problem, but for intracellular mole

Research problem: Bread wheat (Triticumaestivum) provides approximately 20% of the calories and proteins consumed by humankind. As the world population continues to increase, it is necessary to improve wheat yields, increase grain quality, and minimize the losses produced by biotic and abiotic stresses. Stripe rust, caused by Pucciniastriiformisf. sp. tritici(Pst), is one of the most destructive diseases of wheat. The new pathogen races are more virulent and aggressive than previous ones and have produced large economic losses. A rich source for stripe-rust resistance genes (Yr) was found in w

This report provides an overview and summary of the Muskoxen and Genomics in the Community (MAGIC) Workshop held in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut in January 2024. The workshop brought together Inuit Knowledge Holders, hunters, and decision makers, scientists from a variety of disciplines and international participants. Together the group considered Inuit knowledge of and priorities for muskoxen, scientific knowledge and gaps, and the potential for genomic and DNA-based tools to help secure a viable future for muskoxen in the face of multiple climate-related stressors. Structural and functional genomic approaches for marking and identifying genes that control chilling requirement in apricot and peach trees. Specific aims: 1) Identify and characterize the genetic nature of chilling requirement for flowering and dormancy break of vegetative shoots in Prunusgermplasm through the utilization of existing apricot (NeweYa'ar Research Center, ARO) and peach (Clemson University) genetic mapping populations; 2) Use molecular genetic mapping techniques to identify markers flanking genomic regions controlling chilling; 3) Comparatively map the regions controlling chilli

Abstract:
Intraspecies identification (DNA "fingerprinting") of pathogenic avian mycoplasmas is a powerful tool for epidemiological studies and monitoring strain identity. However the only widely method available for Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and M. synoviae (MS)wasrandom amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). This project aimed to develop alternative and supplementary typing methods that will overcome the major constraints of RAPD, such as the need for isolation of the organism in pure culture and the lack of reproducibility intrinsic in the method. Our strategy focussed on recognition of molecular mark

Abstract:
Many companies are setting ambitious targets to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) per the Paris Agreement. However, there is limited evidence on the market effects of setting those targets. Using a GARCH model with a trend developed by the authors and a panel fixed effects model, this paper analyzes the short-run effects of committing and setting GHG targets on public companies' stock price returns and volatility. We find no evidence that committing or setting a target yields higher returns but contributes to a reduction in price volatility, albeit the impact is short-lived. In view
