Metamorphic assemblages differ between the metasedimentary MacLean Lake belt and the adjacent Central Metavolcanic belt in the La Ronge domain, Trans-Hudson Orogen. The former consists of meta-arkoses, psammitic gneisses, metaconglomerates, and calc-silicate gneisses of upper amphibolite facies (600-740°C, 440-660 MPa) with local migmatization, whereas the latter is comprised mainly of metavolcanic and plutonic rocks, with minor metasedimentary schists of greenschist to lower amphibolite facies (480-630°C, 520-560 MPa). Results of tests into the energy-efficiency of belt conveyor transportation systems indicate that the energy consumption of their drive mechanisms can be limited by lowering the main resistances in the conveyor. The main component of these resistances is represented by belt indentation rolling resistance. Limiting its value will allow a reduction in the amount of energy consumed by the drive mechanisms. This article presents a test rig which enables uncomplicated evaluations of such rolling resistances. It also presents the results of comparative tests performed for five steel-cord conveyor be

AbstractThis work considers debris disks whose spectra can be modelled by dust emission at two different temperatures. These disks are typically assumed to be a sign of multiple belts, but only a few cases have been confirmed via high resolution observations. We derive the properties of a sample of two-temperature disks, and explore whether this emission can arise from dust in a single narrow belt. While some two-temperature disks arise from single belts, it is probable that most have multiple spatial components. These disks are plausibly similar to the outer Solar System's configuration of As

Timing belts are essential elements in automobile mechanics. Notched and tensioned, the belt allows the engine components to act synchronously. Its function is mainly to drive the crankshaft and the camshaft, which themselves drive the engine pistons and valves. A broken belt inevitably has dramatic consequences for the engine. We have highlighted in this article, the influence of the rotational speed and the motor torque on the wear of an AT10 toothed belt. This is to qualify this study through experimentation.

Synchronous belts generally exhibit higher transmission efficiency than frictional transmission belts because of their meshing transmission. However, synchronous belts are subject to torque loss due to flexural rigidity when the belt is wound on a pulley. Torque loss also occurs due to incomplete meshing between the belt and pulley teeth at the beginning and end of meshing. If these torque losses can be reduced, synchronous belts can achieve higher transmission efficiency. In the present study, the torque loss in synchronous belt drives under the no transmitted torque and a pulley speed ratio

The objective of this study is to search for features and indicators from the identified geothermal resource sweet spot in the south Mount Meager area that are applicable to other volcanic complexes in the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt. A Landsat 8 multi-spectral band dataset, for a total of 57 images ranging from visible through infrared to thermal infrared frequency channels and covering different years and seasons, were selected. Specific features that are indicative of high geothermal heat flux, fractured permeable zones, and groundwater circulation, the three key elements in exploring for geoth

Re-examination of the rare earth elements (REE) deposits in the Cornudas Mountains is warranted in light of today's economic importance of critical minerals, including REE that are essential in most of our electronic devices. New mapping, petrography, 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, and geochemical analyses have provided a better understanding of the emplacement of these intrusions and associated mineral deposits. The Cornudas Mountains form the northern Trans-Pecos alkaline magmatic province in the southern part of the North American Cordilleran alkaline-igneous belt. The igneous rocks in the Cornud

Oxygen uptake, CO2 production and respiratory quotient (RQ) of strawberry, raspberry and cherry were measured as functions of temperature and oxygen level. The effect of cultivar was studied in strawberry ('Honey' and 'Allstar'). The effect of harvest date was studied for raspberry. The lower O2 limit increased markedly with incraqsing temperature for all fruits studied. Red bell pepper O2 uptake was measured as a function of O2 at 20o C. Lowering the inpackage humidity using NaCl reduced decay of bell pepper sealed in low-density polyethylene packages when stored at 8o C. Analyses of a model

This report summarizes the second year research output of the project “Direct Synthesis of Isobutene from CO Hydrogenation with Zirconium dioxide Catalysts”. In the first year work, the catalytic performance on isosynthesis and characterization of different micron- and nanoscale zirconia catalysts were carried out and compared with those of ceria. In addition, the effect of temperature ramp during calcination of zirconia on characteristics of nanoscale zirconia catalysts and their catalytic performance for isosynthesis was investigated. In this second year work, the catalytic performance of zi

Bacterial cellulose (BC) was investigated as a novel material for preparing activated carbons. BC was dried by heating and it was carbonized with a chemical activation process using phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄) as an activating agent at different temperatures (400, 500 and 600 °C). The properties of the activated carbons were characterized such as chemical property, structure, pore size, thermal property by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), N₂ -physisorption (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) , thermal gravimetric (TGA). Fifty six diverse spring wheat cultivars were evaluated for genetic variation and heritability for thermotolerance in terms of cell-membrane stability (CMS) and triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) reduction. The most divergent cultivars for thermotolerance (Danbata-tolerant and Nacozari-susceptible) were crossed to develop an F8 random onbred line (RIL) population. This population was evaluated for co-segragation in CMS, yield under heat stress and HSP accumulation. Operations in the Artic and other cold regions require technologies that can perform reliably under extreme cold conditions. Permafrost and frozen soils harbor a wide range of microorganisms that have adapted to extremely low temperatures and have unique metabolic capabilities relevant to military operations and that could be exploited to develop biotechnologies optimized for cold environments. Cold-tolerant bacteria (psychrophiles and psychrotrophs) are critical to the development of synthetic biology technologies meant to work in cold environments like the Arctic. A method is described here for the concentration and determination of geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) from the gaseous phase, with translation to field collection and quantification from soil disturbances in situ. The method is based on the use of solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fibers for adsorption of volatile chemicals from the vapor phase, followed by desorption into a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) for analysis. The use of a SPME fiber allows simple introduction to the GC-MS without further sample preparation. Several fiber sorbent types were studied and the 50/30 μ
