Abstract This chapter situates temple-building as a core artistic expression of Latter-day Saints that provides not only a space for the Lord to manifest himself but also a means by which the Saints work out a hybrid sentiment of republican frugality and Protestant heritage. Temples exhibit an underlying tension between the aesthetic interests of this frugality and earlier visions of ornamentation in the Latter-day Saint faith. These influences served to tame Joseph Smith’s palatial vision of temples’ potential. While never quite reveling in opulence, temples are nonetheless material manifesta

After the Temple Art Committee was created, it soon quietly swapped out old paintings for newer, more inclusive, and global ones. By doing so, it also supported artists who could benefit from developments in the wider art world that led to an appreciation of contemporary realism. The trend coincided with, perhaps even helped furnish, the church’s need for art that communicated

Abstract:
The Working Group on “Transparency and the publicising of the results of health research”, was appointed by the French Ministry in charge of Research, in conjunction with the French Ministry in charge of Health. It seeks to address the problem of publication bias, which is the tendency to prioritise the publication of positive results. This technical note presents a model to evaluate the costs and benefits of plans to scale up public investment. It creates a theoretical framework that considers the positive effects of investment on growth and, in turn, the impact it can have on government fiscal accounts, particularly debt service. This note is accompanied by a template that implements the proposed methodology, which the author hopes will be useful for the work of country economists at the Inter-American Development Bank.

Abstract:
Cyber incidents that—whether due to human error, system malfunction or intentional targeting—impact satellite and missile systems have a history and future that extend beyond the ongoing war in Ukraine. These systems are essential to civilian and military operations and disrupting them has the potential to elicit conventional or even nuclear retaliation. Due to the centrality of satellite and missile-related infrastructure, cyber incidents impacting the functionality of such infrastructure have served as a catalyst for previous confidence-building measures (CBMs) that may provide a template fo

Abstract:
Snow is an important resource for both communities and ecosystems of the Northeastern United States. Both flood risk management and water supply forecasts for major municipalities, including New York City, depend on the collection of snowpack information. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to summarize all of the snowpack data from ground-based networks currently available in the Northeast. The collection of snow-depth and snow water equivalent information extends back several decades, and there are over 2,200 active sites across the region. Sites are distributed across the entire range o
