Abstract:
Although the textualist critique of ethnography has challenged the possibility of science in cultural anthropology, insights provided by that critique are crucial for the further development of a scientific approach in the discipline. The value of the textualist critique of ethnography for the development of scientific ethnology can best be seen through an analogy with archaeology. Just as archaeologists' ability to reconstruct the past has been enhanced, not undermined, by a detailed understanding of archaeological site formation processes, so can ethnologists' ability to understand patterns

This review article is devoted to the theory of polycode texts that are represented as a combination of verbal and non-verbal components. This unity is supported by the meaning, structure and function, under which we mean the focus on solving a single communicative task. A polycode text includes signs of various semiotic systems, for example, colour and kinesics. A number of synonymous terminological descriptions of this phenomenon - creolized text, polycode text, polysemiotic text, semiotically enriched test - indicates that we are currently witnessing the formation of the theory of polycode

During cultural-historical development, our learning processes have evolved to using diverse “symbolic artifacts – signs, symbols, texts, formulae” (Kozulin et al. 2003: 15) as mediators of knowledge and meaning. The phenomenon of a text became one of the most advanced of these mediators, as it goes beyond the mere mediation of knowledge. According to Lotman, the text is a semiotic system “capable of transforming messages received and generating new ones, a generator of information” (1988: 57). Leningrad’s “second culture” primarily created an alternative image of the city’s culture, constructing its genealogy as a continuation of the highest achievements of Russian Art Nouveau. The Moscow text seems marginal to this culture, not essential for interpreting the vicissitudes of the twentieth century. A close examination of the institutions of the second culture yet shows that in it, the Moscow text was fabricated. Abstract This article resumes one published in this journal in 1981, in which it was argued, on the basis of universal conjunctive errors, that the capital manuscripts of Vergil descend from an archetype. That view is here countered, and some of the passages discussed in 1981 are revisited, as well as some others about which problems have been raised in the meantime (Ecl. 6.61–73, Georg. 4.520–21, Aen. 9.914, 10.366).

Due to its optional, new, non-normative, functional one-time nature, occasional derivatives (coinages) have become one of the major linguistic means of forming the connotative component of the semantics of the text or its segment. AIGSO proposes to have three spacecrafts in linear formation with extension of 10[Formula: see text]km. The three spacecrafts need to maintain [Formula: see text] constant arm-length formation. In this study, we address the issue of orbit design and thruster requirement. The acceleration to maintain the formation can be designed to be less than 30[Formula: see text]pm/s2and the thruster requirement is in the 30[Formula: see text]nN range. Ap

Abstract:
Multicomponent induction (MCI) logging measurements have been widely used in the past decade for determining formation resistivity anisotropy (horizontal and vertical resistivities: [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]), dip, and azimuth. Currently, almost all MCI processing and interpretation algorithms of determining [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], dip, and azimuth are based on simplified transversely isotropic (TI) formation models. In most geologic environments, formations are layered or laminated, making the TI model a reasonable assumption. Subsurface formations usually

Abstract:
A formation [Formula: see text] of finite groups has the generalized Wielandt property for residuals, or [Formula: see text] is a GWP-formation, if the [Formula: see text]-residual of a group generated by two [Formula: see text]-subnormal subgroups is the subgroup generated by their [Formula: see text]-residuals. The main result of this paper describes a large family of GWP-formations to further the transparence of this kind of formations, and it can be regarded as a natural step toward the solution of the classification problem.
