Falsified medicines for human use are an increasing problem in Europe. The Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD) 2011/62/EU provides measures to prevent the entry of falsified medicines into the legal supply chain by requiring the placing of safety features consisting of a unique identifier (Ul) and an anti-tampering device (ATD). Some concerns have arisen from patients regarding the effectiveness of UI and ATD in terms of safety. In contrast, the relevance of the supply source as a key point for patients and pharmacists, especially in hospitals, has not been sufficiently considered by the FMD.

Abstract:
The intensive use of FPSOs in Campos Basin, offshore Brazil, has demanded more attention on the fatigue design of flexible risers. Field experience and a new set of environmental data collected in the last years have shown a large number of swell waves reaching the floating units in quartering and beam seas, which has amplified the motions at the risers’ top connections. Hence, it is necessary to evaluate the occurrence probability of wave heading direction relative to the vessel, especially for beam seas, but also noting the probability increase of quartering seas considering the existence of

Currently, the quality of wind measure of a site is assessed using Wind Power Density (WPD). This paper proposes to use a more credible metric namely, one we call the Wind Power Potential (WPP). While the former only uses wind speed information, the latter exploits both wind speed and wind direction distributions, and yields more credible estimates. The new measure of quality of a wind resource, the Wind Power Potential Evaluation (WPPE) model, investigates the effect of wind velocity distribution on the optimal net power generation of a farm. In ASME 2009 28th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering. ASMEDC, 2009. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/omae2009-79318.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of the relative angle between ice ridges and sea ice drift directions on the arrival rate of ridges. The arrival rate is of importance both for estimating the load conditions at a site and for possible ice management connected to the operation. If the number of encounters increases, the probability of encounter of an extreme ice feature and load increases. A Monte Carlo simulation has been made to calculate the ridge arrival intensity for input formulated as distributions. In probabilistic calculations of design loads today the average arri

Micro heat pipes (MHPs) are, essentially, miniature heat transfer devices which use phase change to transfer thermal energy. In recent years, there have been numerous proposals for their applications in cooling electronic devices. In this paper, the axial liquid distribution of a triangular MHP is investigated for the case of inclined orientation. The study is limited to the case of positive inclination, whereby the condenser section is elevated from horizontal position. In this case, the inclusion of gravity renders the governing equation unsolvable analytically, and the 4th order Runge-Kutta

Abstract An accurate assessment of hip fracture risk requires a proper consideration of parameters affecting the fracture. In general, hip fracture is affected by bone morphology, bone mineral Density (BMD), and load amount. Hip fracture is an outcome of the interaction of all those parameters including loading directions. Assessing the effect of the parameters individually may not correctly reflect the root cause of the hip fracture. Hence, this research aims at analyzing the significance of parameters and their interaction. A multivariate regression model was used considering bone density (ρ

Summary The Well Integrity Management System is a central policy outlining well integrity requirements to ensure operational safety and safe production throughout well lifecycle. Among these requirements is a liner inflow test, particularly when set above the production packer to prevent any potential non-conformities such as Sustained Casing Pressure, tubular corrosion, an underground blowout and many other Well Integrity issues during production. Some Well Integrity Guidelines propose the use of Horner's technique to interpret these tests where predictions are made based on the Y-intercept o

We reviewed five models for modifying the natural log mean and within-event standard deviation of ground-motion models (GMMs) to account for directivity effects in the near-fault environment. We found broad consistency for strike–slip ruptures, with positive and negative directivity effects for cases of rupture towards and away from a site of interest, respectively. We found substantial divergence among directivity models for reverse slip, with some providing maximum directivity for sites positioned to experience the peak alignment of rupture direction with the fault-slip direction (this occur

The design of laterally loaded piles is often done in practice using the p-y method with API p-y curves representing the behavior of soil at discretized points along the pile length. To account for pile-soil-pile interaction in pile groups, AASHTO (2020) proposes the use of p-multipliers to modify the p-y curves. In this research, we explored, in depth, the design of lateral loaded piles and pile groups using both the Finite Element (FE) method and the p-y method to determine under what conditions pile stability problems were likely to occur. The properties of “scission” neutrons from thermal neutron induced fission of 233U and 235U were obtained by comparing experimental angular and energy distributions of the prompt fission neutrons measured recently at PNPI with model distributions calculated under the assumption that all prompt fission neutrons are emitted from fully accelerated fragments. To obtain model distributions, it is assumed to use the spectra of prompt fission neutrons measured at small angles relative to the preferential direction of movement of light and heavy fragments because it is expected that just for these ang

The overall objective of this proposal is to understand how realistic strategies for incorporating alternative foods into wheat fields affect the intraguild (IG) interactions of omnivorous and carnivorous predators and their efficacy as biological control agents. Cereal aphids are a primary pest of wheat throughout much of the world. Naturally occurring predator communities consume large quantities of cereal aphids in wheat, and are partitioned into aphid specialists and omnivores. Within wheat fields, the relative abilities of omnivorous and carnivorous predators to reduce cereal aphids depen
