Her ability to arouse desire and her willingness to follow her longings make her a complicated ideal. Abstract:
The present work is an experimental study of shear horizontal surface acoustic wave (SH-SAW) miniaturized sensors which offer a high potential for electrochemical applications in liquid environments and in real-time. Our devices consist of a 42° rotYX lithium tantalate (LiTaO3) substrate coated with an SU8 photoresist polymer in order to produce acoustic waveguides supporting a Love–wave. The sensors architecture and fabrication techniques are presented. Standard techniques employing continuous wave system and pulse mode measurements have shown the propagation of both surface skimming bulk wav

This paper presents a method for generating images of anime characters based on user preferences. A questionnaire is developed to measure user preferences, inspired by Rubin's "Love and Liking Scale". Specifically, user preferences are collected by presenting anime character images to participants through a crowd survey and collecting their responses. The model responsible for generating the anime character images is trained using deep learning techniques, using the survey data as a training set. However, attempts to generate images using the trained model did not produce the expected results.

Abstract Karhunen-Loeve - KL modes are used to discretize the dynamics of a four-bay linear truss. This is achieved by defining global KL modal amplitudes and employing the orthogonality relations between KL modes that are inherent in the KL decomposition. It is found that the KL-based low-order models can capture satisfactory the transient dynamics of the truss, even when only a limited number of them is used for the order reduction. A comparison between the exact and low-order dynamics in the frequency domain reveals that the low-order models capture the leading resonances of the truss. A se

This paper presents application of rational triangular Bezier splines (rTBS) for developing Kirchhoff-Love plate elements in the context of isogeometric analysis. Triangular isogeometric analysis can provide the C1 continuity over the mesh including elements interfaces, a necessary condition in finite elements formulation based on Kirchhoff-Love shell and plate theory. Using rTBS and macro-element technique, we develop Kirchhoff-Love plate elements, investigate the convergence rate and apply the method on complex geometry. Obtained results demonstrate that the optimal convergence rate is achie

Abstract:
Various rider models have been proposed that provide control inputs for the simulation of motorcycle dynamics. However, those models are mostly used to simulate production motorcycles, so they assume that all motions are in the linear region such as those in a constant radius turn. As such, their performance is insufficient for simulating racing motorcycles that experience quick acceleration and braking. Therefore, this study proposes a new rider model for racing simulation that incorporates Nonlinear Model Predictive Control. In developing this model, it was built on the premise that it can c

Abstract:
The memoirs of (post-) punk musician Viv Albertine address the issue of choice or lack thereof in romantic and family relationships. They depict a world in which choice of romantic partners appears normal if often unsuccessful, whereas choice within family relationships is restricted. It is self-evident that one cannot choose one’s blood relatives. However, amplified by Albertine’s scepticism towards any social relationships, her two memoirs represent ‘negative choice’ (Eva Illouz) in heterosexual romantic relationships and the complex ways in which negative choice can change family dynamics.

S?t? Tlein (Tlingit for ?Big Glacier?) is the traditional name for what has recently been called Malaspina Glacier, the largest glacier in Alaska. The piedmont terminal lobe of S?t? Tlein is protected from the adjacent Pacific Ocean by a narrow, vegetated foreland dotted with proglacial lakes. Ice of the piedmont lobe is largely covered with debris and vegetation. These lakes and sedimentary deposits impact rates of melt and calving and therefore impact ongoing evolution of the glacier itself. Multinational corporations (MNCs) avoid taxes by shifting their profits from countries where real activity takes place towards tax havens, depriving governments worldwide of billions of tax revenue. Earlier research investigating the scale and distribution of profit shifting has faced methodological and data challenges, both of which we address. First, we propose a logarithmic function to model the extremely non-linear relationship between the location of profits and tax rates faced by MNCs at those locations – that is, the extreme concentration of profits without corresponding economic activi

Abstract:
This technical paper documents one approach to incorporating monopolistic competition into the GTAP model. In this framework, consumer preferences are heterogeneous, leading to an apparent "love of variety" in the aggregate utility function for each region. The more heterogeneous are preferences, the smaller the elasticity of substitution in the aggregate utility function, and the greater the value placed on the addition of new varieties. The same is true for firms, which experience lower unit costs for differentiated, intermediate inputs, as the number of varieties on offer increases. In orde

Traffic congestion causes Americans to lose millions of hours and dollars each year. In fact, 1.9 billion gallons of fuel are wasted each year due to traffic congestion, and each hour stuck in traffic costs about $21 in wasted time and fuel. The traffic congestion can be caused by various factors, such as bottlenecks, traffic incidents, bad weather, work zones, poor traffic signal timing, and special events. One key step to addressing traffic congestion and identifying its root cause is an accurate prediction of traffic flow. Accurate traffic flow prediction is also important for the successfu

This paper examines the psychological and social consequences of social media through the lens of Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s moral psychology, focusing on his distinction between amour de soi and amour-propre. As social media platforms incentivize promoting idealized projections of one’s identity, self-love is increasingly dependent on external validation (Likes, Reposts, Followers). I argue that this dynamic cultivates a toxic culture of comparison, narcissism, and self-alienation rooted in Rousseau’s notion of amour-propre.
