For centuries, biologists have been captivated by the vast disparity in species richness between different groups of organisms. Variation in diversity is widely attributed to differences between groups in how fast they speciate or go extinct. Such macroevolutionary rates have been estimated for thousands of groups and have been correlated with an incredible variety of organismal traits. Here we analyze a large collection of phylogenetic trees and fossil time series and describe a hidden generality among these seemingly idiosyncratic results: speciation and extinction rates follow a scaling law

Many construction companies today utilize webcams on their jobsites to monitor and record construction operations. Jobsite monitoring is often limited to outdoor construction operations due to lack of mobility of wired webcams. A wireless webcam may help monitor indoor construction operations with enhanced mobility. The transfer time of sending a photograph from the wireless webcam, however, is slower than that of a wired webcam. It is expected that professionals may have to analyze indoor construction operations with longer interval time-lapse photographs if they want to use a wireless webcam

The ACRMs provide a continuous record of the time-of-wetness and atmospheric corrosion rates. Combining monitoring systems with electrical resistance (ER) or linear polarization resistance (LPR) corrosion probes allows corrosion rate data to be measured more frequently. Real time transmission of the field data at more frequent intervals provides a greater number of data measurements. Increased data density enables faster and more accurate evaluation of corrosion rate trends. Interactive, web-based analysis provides the user with a tool that allows trackin

Abstract Decarburization of steel parts during heat treating results in a lower surface hardness, undesirable residual stress profiles, and poor part performance. Significant effort has been made towards preventing decarburization and determining the impact of annealing time and temperature on decarburization rate. Much of the published research has focused on medium carbon steels, ranging from 0.3wt% C to the eutectoid composition. The goal of the current research is to determine decarburization rates for steels with carbon concentrations above the eutectoid concentration. AISI 52100 steel wa

Abstract:
The pass-through of market interest rates to the financial conditions of households and firms is an essential element in the monetary policy transmission mechanism. In this paper, we analyse how this transmission is playing out in the current hiking cycle in the euro area and in Spain, as compared to previous cycles. We find that the pass-through to the interest rates on retail time deposits is slower than in previous hiking cycles in both jurisdictions. Moreover, a slower pass-through is also observed for mortgages in Spain. We then show there is significant heterogeneity in this pass-through
