In geoid computation, effects of real three-dimensional topographic masses on the Earth’s gravity field must be accurately quantified and, in the Stokes–Helmert scheme, replaced with effects of those masses condensed on the geoid. The most comprehensive modern schemes for evaluation of topographical effects account for terrain effects, use a spherical model of topography, and incorporate two-dimensionally varying models of topographical mass density. In this contribution, we employ a three-dimensionally varying model of topographical density. We use Newton’s integration to determine the direct

In this work a study of the effect of surface topographical variations on several dc resistivity arrays is presented. A 2.5-D finite‐element modeling scheme is used to examine the performance of several arrays over buried features that exist below a range of different topographical terrain contexts, such as valleys, hills, and steep slopes. A mesh‐generating algorithm allows a realistic representation of terrain topography. The results confirm that topographical variations can have a significant impact on the field resistivity data values for all resistivity arrays. Further, topographical vari

Abstract:
This report describes the potential vulnerability of specialty crops, field crops, forests, and animal agriculture to climate-driven environmental changes. Here, vulnerability is defined as a function of exposure to climate change effects, sensitivity to these effects, and adaptive capacity. The exposure of specific sectors of the agricultural and forestry industries varies across the region because the Southwest is climatically and topographically diverse. There is also variability in the sensitivity of different systems to the effects of climate change. Most significantly, there is potential

In 2015, the Southwest and California Climate Hubs published a report describing the potential vulnerability of crops, forests and animal agriculture to climate-driven environmental changes. The exposure of specific sectors of the agricultural and forestry industries varies across the region because the Southwest is climatically and topographically diverse. There is also variability in the sensitivity of different systems to the effects of climate change. Most significantly, there is potential within agricultural and forestry systems to adjust to climate-related effects either through inherent

Homestead National Historical Park (HOME), southeast Nebraska, commemorates the 1862 Homestead Act with series of exhibits, including outdoor ecosystems that represent how the landscape may have appeared historically. The historical, scenic views of HOME have high aesthetic value but are threatened by land use changes, especially construction of tall structures visible over long distances. The impacts of development on scenic views depends on the location and height of constructed objects, topographical variability of the landscape, and the degree of visual obstruction from existing abovegroun

Abstract:
Rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus type 2 (RHDV2) has caused dramatic declines in rabbits and hares on several continents, with cascading effects on local ecology. Recent mortalities have been reported for several rabbit and hare species in the United States, suggesting broad susceptibility of lagomorphs. If this susceptibility extends to the American pika (Ochotona princeps), the most cold-adapted lagomorph, it could compound climate-mediated threats to this species. Due to climate change, American pikas are predicted to experience significant upslope range retraction during this century. Using
