We present a novel classification technique for volume visualization that takes the shape of volumetric features into account. The presented technique enables the user to distinguish features based on their 3D shape and to assign individual optical properties to these. Based on a rough pre-segmentation that can be done by windowing, we exploit the curve-skeleton of each volumetric structure in order to derive a shape descriptor similar to those used in current shape recognition algorithms. The shape descriptor distinguishes three main shape classes: longitudinal, surface-like, and blobby shape

Improved time series forecasting accuracy can enhance demand planning, and therefore save money and reduce environmental impact. The idea behind this degree project is to explore transfer learning for time series forecasting. This has boiled down to two concrete goals. The second goal is to investigate whether transfer learning makes it possible to forecast time series with less historical data.In this project, time series descr

Abstract:
Injection molding is one of the most commonly applied processing methods for plastic components. Heat transfer coefficient (HTC), which describes the heat conducting ability of the interface between a polymer and cavity wall, significantly influences the temperature distribution of a polymer and mold during injection molding and thus affects the process and quality of plastic products. This thesis focuses on HTC under diverse processing situations. On the basis of the heat conducting principle, a theoretical model for calculating HTC was presented. Injection mold specially used for measuring

Functional neuromuscular stimulation (FNS) refers to the delivery of electrical stimuli to nerves or muscles to enhance, modify or restore motor functions. Despite their invasiveness, implantable systems for FNS offer key advantages over surface and percutaneous systems in terms of selectivity and safety. Most implantable FNS systems consist of a relatively bulky subcutaneous pulse genera-tor connected through leads to electrodes at the target stimulation sites. In the case of FNS systems for restoring motor functions in patients with paralysis, the leads are long and the electrodes are

All modern High Temperature Reactors (HTR) thermal cycles have one thing in common: the use of some form of heat exchanger. This heat exchanger is used to pre-heat or cool the primary loop gas, from where the secondary power generation cycle is driven. The Compact Heat Exchanger (CHE) type offers high heat loads in smaller volumes. Various studies have been done to improve the heat transfer in the flow channels of these CHEs but little focus has been placed on the thermal design of surrounding material in such a heat exchanger. The focus of this study is on the effective material usage in a CH

In ischaemic stroke a disruption of cerebral blood flow leads to impaired metabolism and the formation of an ischaemic penumbra in which tissue at risk of infarction is sought for clinical intervention. In stroke trials, therapeutic intervention has largely been based on perfusion-weighted measures, but these have not been shown to be good predictors of tissue outcome. The aim of this thesis was to develop analysis techniques for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) in order to quantify metabolic signals associated with tissue fate in patients with a
