Heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of water based CuO nanofluid inside a horizontal tube were investigated experimentally. The upper limitation of the particle volume fraction with respect to heat transfer performance was also found. CuO-water nanofluids with volume fractions of 0.5%, 1%, 2%, and 4% were prepared by dispersing the CuO nanoparticles with an average diameter of 33 nm into deionised water. Experiments were carried out under the steady-state, constant heat flux, and turbulent flow regime conditions. The variations of the average Nusselt number and the friction factor

The aim of the present study was to compare the in vitro and in vivo developmental competence of hand-made cloning (HMC) embryos with the conventional nuclear transfer (NT) method using five somatic cell lines and in vitro-fertilised (IVF; control) embryos. Modifications to the HMC procedure included fusion efficiency optimisation, effect of cytoplasmic volume and cloned embryo aggregation. The developmental competence of blastocysts from each of the treatment groups and cell lines used was assessed following transfer to 345 recipients. Vitrification was also used to enable management of recip

Abstract:
The oxygen transfer process of starch wastewater in the shaking bioreactor was studied. A biological oxygen consumption system was simulated by the sodium sulfite solution. The effects of liquid volume ratio in different volume shake flasks, rotational speed and temperature on the volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient were investigated. The results show that the volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient increased with the increasing rotational speed and temperature, while decreased with the increasing volume of shaking flasks.

Volume data often have redundant information for clinical uses. The essence of volume rendering can be regarded as a mechanism to determine visibility of redundant information and structures of interest using different approaches. Controlling the visibility of these structures in volume rendering depends on the following factors in existing rendering algorithms: The data value of current voxel and its derivatives (used in transfer function based approaches), and the voxel position (used in volume clipping). This paper introduces the distance which is defined by the user into volume rendering p

The carbon monoxide transfer factor and its subdivisions, the pulmonary membrane diffusing capacity and the pulmonary capillary volume were measured in fourteen subjects following submassive pulmonary emboli, as demonstrated by a ventilation-perfusion scan, and in fourteen matched controls. Transfer factor and alveolar volume were significantly lower in patients with pulmonary emboli (p less than 0.02). Patients were given six weeks anticoagulant therapy and the measurements repeated three months later. There was a significant increase in the transfer factor and the alveolar volume (p less tha

This investigation studies the effect on pressure of the filling volume rate in a manufactured nickel powder capillary structure (wick) for a loop heat pipe (LHP). The filling volume ratio is an index of pressure from 1 to 1.3 to investigate the influence on filling weights of the internal parameters of a wick (permeability, effective pore radius and porosity) and heat transfer performance for LHP. The wick is manufactured, based on the standard and non-pressurized filling weights in the manufactured wick mold. The conversion of a pressure change to a weight change used to investigate the rela

A mathematical model of the steady boundary layer flow of nanofluid due to an exponentially permeable stretching sheet with external magnetic field is presented. In the model, the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis on heat transfer and nanoparticle volume friction are considered.
