Abstract:
Law enforcement on academic campuses can be a physically demanding profession. Law enforcement officers (LEOs) may be required to perform a variety of physical tasks. Identifying which physical fitness characteristics are associated with these tasks will guide the development of appropriate and effective exercise programs. Therefore the purpose of this study was to identify physical fitness and demographic characteristics associated with the occupational physical ability of university LEOs. Sixteen male LEOs (age: 33.1±8.7 yr.; body mass: 87.2±11.2 kg; height: 178.9±7.9 cm) performed an office

Abstract:
Nine physiological measures were evaluated pre- to post-intervention on subjects participating in a university health promotion program over a seven-month period. Frequency of program attendance and choice of activity were also assessed. Of the 88 employees initially screened, most of the subjects were staff members (n=82, 93%),with a majority being female (n=68, 77%). Significant differences in physiological measures were found pre- to post-intervention between "higher" and "lower" cardiovascular risk participants, primarily due to the type of activity chosen. .The results indicate that healt

Background: Normative values of VO2max have been developed or updated based on the estimated VO2max, but measured normative values of VO2max have not been developed yet. VO2max has been reported to relate to coronary heart disease (CHD) risk factors, yet most of the studies have used estimated VO2max to compare CHD risk factors. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop norms for VO2max from the Ball State University (BSU) Adult Physical Fitness Program cohort that represented percentiles based on the measured VO2max.
