Abstract:

Eighty extracted maxillary anterior teeth were randomly assigned to four groups. Teeth were instrumented using EndoSequence rotary instrument system and treated with passive ultrasonic irrigation with different irrigating regimens for one minute. Group one (control) was treated with hand/rotary instrumentation. Group two was treate

Besides the molecular mechanisms regulating activation of FLS mentioned above, we also investigated anti-inflammatory activities of Chinese herbal medicine sinomenine and Liang Miao San on activated human FLS in RA. Sinomenine, an alkaloid isolated from the root of Sinomenium acutum, has been used to alleviate the symptoms of rheumatic diseases. Liang Miao San (LMS), composed of the herbs Rhizoma Atractylodis (Cangzhu) and Cotex Phellodendri (Huangbai), is another traditional Chinese medicine formula for RA treatment. Since the potential anti-inflammatory activities of sinomenine and LMS have

The treatment of tuberculosis (TB) is currently a challenge due to multi- and extensively drug resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Mycobacterium bovis and M. tuberculosis cause clinically indistinguishable tuberculosis in humans. Both M. bovis and M. tuberculosis have been isolated from humans and animals. Plant species contain antimicrobial compounds that may lead to new anti-TB drugs. To conduct in vitro antimycobacterial assays, it is important to include current clinical isolates as new strains of bacteria might be circulating under the ongoing climate change environment. The

Botha, Lynette Elizabeth. "Investigating the production of secondary metabolites effective in lowering blood glucose levels in Euclea Undulata Thunb. Var Myrtina (Ebenaceae)." Diss., 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/21927.

Abstract:
Euclea undulata Thunb. var myrtina is a widely distributed shrub in South Africa. The roots are used by traditional healers for the treatment of diabetes. Research indicates that roots contain epicatechin, lupeol as well α-amyrin-3O-β-(5-hydroxy) ferulic acid. It was found that α-amyrin-3O-β-(5-hydroxy) ferulic acid inhibits α-glucosidase while epicatechin lowers glucose levels in the blood. Existing literature also indicates the presence of the naphthoquinone 7-methyl-juglone in the roots, although it was not detected in all cases. Due to its cytotoxic nature, 7-methyl-juglone poses a potenti
