This case report illustrates two unusual cases of parapharyngeal schwannomas mimicking carotid body tumors in terms of characteristic vascular displacement. Carotid body tumors classically cause splaying of internal and external carotid arteries demonstrating the Lyre sign on imaging. Also interestingly, both of these cases were seen in younger ages and include cervical sympathetic chain schwannoma and vagal schwannoma. However, these schwannomas revealed hypovascularity on imaging studies allowing differentiation from hypervascular carotid body tumors. Preoperative distinction between carotid

Carotid body tumors (CBT) are a rare form of paragangliomas of the head and neck. They are described as rare, slow-growing, mostly benign, clinically silent tumors of neural crest cells. This tumor should be considered as a differential diagnosis when evaluating a lateral neck mass. A report of a rare case, a carotid body tumor, is presented that was incidentally noted as a lateral neck mass during a screening sonogram. A mass located at the level of the left carotid bifurcation demonstrated significant vascular flow with the use of contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) techniques. Computed tomo

Masson’s tumor is a rare, benign, vascular lesion, commonly affecting the head, neck and peripheries. It is usually asymptomatic and can be confused with malignant tumors. We report a 56-year-old male who presented with a solitary swelling in the right side of neck which was clinically diagnosed as a benign cystic lesion, hence complete excision of the lesion was done. Histopathology demonstrated the papillary proliferation of endothelial cells, in favour of Masson’s tumor.

Abstract TO REVIEW THE literature on endovascular therapies available to clinicians to aid in the management of head, neck, and intracranial tumors. Hypervascular tumors of the head and neck region, as well as the intracranial region, are associated with large amounts of blood loss intraoperatively. Preoperative embolization of selected hypervascular tumors has been proposed in the literature as a method of reducing blood loss intraoperatively. This technique involves superselective catheterization of the feeding arteries to the tumor bed and then by infusion of embolic particles to saturate t

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the 6th most common cancer worldwide and poses a significant health burden due to its rising incidence. PTTG and PBF cause transformation in vitro and tumour formation in vivo, both effects thought to be partly mediated by their interactions with the tumour suppressor protein p53. Embolization in oncologic patients serves a multitude of purposes, including the cessation of tumor or tissue blood flow by means of catheterization with various materials, the reduction of tumor size by creating ischemia through the coverage of the most distal region, and the mitigation of bleeding risk during surgery by the administration of preoperatively in hypervascular tumors.
