Abstract:
The inflammatory, demyelinating plaques that characterize multiple sclerosis (MS) frequently affect the visual pathways. Lesions of the afferent visual pathway (most commonly optic neuritis) result in problems conveying visual stimuli from the retina to the visual cortices. Lesions affecting the efferent visual system result in ocular dysmotility that impairs visual acuity by disrupting the precision of binocular eye movements or by causing excessive eye movements that prevent adequate foveation (e.g. nystagmus, saccadic intrusions). Significant advancements have been made in the techniques us

Abstract:
Pituitary tumours are common, usually benign, lesions ordinarily well controlled by multidisciplinary management. The several subtypes of pituitary tumours reflect the hormones produced by the pituitary gland, and each may require a complex sequential programme of treatment. Modern laboratory evaluation and imaging is capable of extensively characterizing the tumours, and is the basis for the recommended therapies. The tumours that produce excess active levels of pituitary hormones may be amenable to very satisfactory medical therapy, which reduces hormone levels towards normal, and often caus

Abstract:
Especially where a patient's ability to communicate is limited, the receptive use of art visually offers an entry point into contemplation and insight. Here, receptive work with visual art can help to dissolve limitations in verbal communication. In receptive art therapy, an independent therapeutic resource is attributed to the artistic work and its symbolic pictorial content, which can initiate a healing process. A form of indirect communication is stimulated, in which not only a change on the symbolic but also on the emotional level takes place through the emotionally highly charged pictoria

Abstract:
Vasculitis represents a spectrum of disorders that are often divided on the basis of the predominant vessel size affected into large-, medium- and small-vessel vasculitides. This chapter will focus on the pathogenesis of the anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated medium- and small-vessel vasculitides (AAV), and large-vessel vasculitis, Takayasu arteritis, and giant cell arteritis. Underlying pathogenic mechanisms in vasculitis remain to be fully understood. In particular, the initiating event(s) are not known. Abstract:
Music therapists endeavour to understand music’s significance for people who are mourning unfulfilled hopes and a life once lived; who are trying to deal with uncertainty, altered identities, saying farewells, or impending death. Through music-based interventions in therapeutic relationships, music therapists extend the opportunities for music to enable and express mourning which can be congruent with helpful emotional release and coping. Participants are assisted to find comfort and fellowship through identifications with lyrics and sonorities, and the improved expressive capacity offered in
