Abstract:
Organizational leaders in the 21st century face relentless changes in the business environments in which they operate. The diversity, intensity, and rapidity of these changes create volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA), which challenge leaders on ways to lead effectively as existing methods prove inadequate. The problem in this study was that of inadequate leader preparedness to lead and win in VUCA environments. The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of 15 Nigerian corporate executives about their VUCA business environment and the strategies they employed for VUCA-readiness and success within the manufacturing sector. The research question guiding the study related to the lived experiences of corporate executives in manufacturing companies in Nigeria regarding VUCA-readiness and succeeding in a VUCA environment. Chaos theory and complexity leadership theory were used to frame the study. Data collection occurred through snowball sampling to interview 15 participants who are senior executives in large manufacturing corporations in Lagos, Nigeria. Data was analyzed through Ricoeur’s theory of interpretation and member checking. As a result, 4 key themes that emerged were business agility, strategic workforce and demand planning, recovery management for organizational resilience, and conscientious and value-based leadership. The study findings may contribute to positive social change in providing strategies for organizational sustainability, business readiness, responsive leadership, and enhanced employee well-being in VUCA. Recommendations include VUCA training for preparedness and organizational resilience.

Abstract:

This qualitative, phenomenological research study addressed the research question: What is the experience of leaders when they think strategically in a VUCA environment? The study explored what happens when leaders think strategically in a VUCA environment and how such thinking occurs. Of specific interest were the triggers of strategic thinking, the strategic questions being asked, and the methods used to develop insight. The term VUCA stands for volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity and is used interchangeably in this study with the term "complex" to represent the Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition program management environment (Army, 1998).

Ten acquisition program managers and deputy program managers for major DoD acquisition programs were selected as referred by naval aviation acquisition program executive officers. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and transcribed to capture the program managers' lived experience and the meaning they made (Seidman, 2006). Data were analyzed and themes developed using Moustakas's (1994) modification of the Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method as a guide.

The study had four findings: (1) strategic thinking utilizes an extensive range of knowledge, abilities, and conditions that enable clarity of thought; (2) strategic thinking occurs deliberately as both a high-level creative and a tactically grounded process; (3) strategic thinking is fueled by iterative individual and group analytical and dialogical activities to address the knowledge needed to create strategic-to-tactical linkages and frameworks; and (4) strategic thinking is a deeply personal experience that evokes a wide range of positive and negative emotions. The study concluded that strategic thinking is a cognitive, emotional, and behavioral phenomenon that is both high-level and tactically grounded and is fueled by individual and group analytical and dialogical activities to address needed knowledge, enable clarity of thought, and create strategic-to-tactical linkages and mental models to develop enabling strategies. Further, the characterization of the VUCA environment needs to include the structural elements that may impede the ability to adapt and respond, and the triggers for strategic thinking need to include having the explicit responsibility to think strategically. Implications for theory, practice, and future research are offered.

Title: Time to prove: Sustainable leadership versus crisis management - a qualitative study regarding the experience of duality for leaders between two leaderships in a unique and complex environment. Authors: Julia Bülow and Aida Ekberg  Published: 2021–05–24 Supervisor: Jean-Charles Languilaire  Background: The environment is forever changing, and leaders need to adapt according to different factors. Previous research has named this rapidly changing environment as VUCA which is an acronym that stands for volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. To face such an environment, previous research has suggested VUCA prime as a way for leaders to approach the situation using vision, understanding, clarity and agility. When covid-19 entered the context, a situation of unique complexity was created which meant even greater challenges for leaders to navigate. These reinforced challenges are argued for using the external factors of PESTEL which imply political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal factors. This environment is named as VUCA max is this study, while indicating that the need of crisis management is reinforced at the same time as the need for sustainable leadership remains and has in fact never been more in question. Based on this background, this study aims to research the approach of leaders when faced with the duality of crisis management and sustainable leadership during VUCA max. This concludes the research gap for this study. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand how leaders handle the duality that appears in a situation of crisis, with regards to not compromising the future need of sustainability, while faced with a unique and complex environment.    Research question: How does leaders handle the duality between crisis management and sustainable leadership during VUCA max which is a unique and complex environment?   Methodology: This study has a qualitative approach by the conduction of a case study, consisting of interviews with seven leaders. The main research approach is deductive, with a slight element of inductance. Therefore, the research approach for this study is abductive in its entirety.  Conclusions: The conclusions of this study show that the leaders use crisis management and sustainable leadership in a balanced manner during VUCA max.  Sustainable leadership is therefore not deprioritized due to the increased need of crisis management. Further, the leaders have an enhanced use of clarity in relation to crisis management and understanding in relation to sustainable leadership. Leaders also use approaches such as trust, compassion, the ability to be goal-oriented, brave, take responsibility through self-leadership, and the establishment of a varied network during VUCA max. Finally, the concept development VUCA max-prime is introduced to describe how leaders handle the duality between crisis management and sustainable leadership during VUCA max.

Abstract:
Following various disasters across the world, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers issued a comprehensive report on resilience and disaster management [15]. The report called for the development of an integrating framework for resilience that incorporates the societal dimension as an integral part of engineering. This research attempts to provide a philosophical and theoretical framework to support the solution to this grand challenge by proposing the theory of Mindfulness Engineering. Mindfulness Engineering puts people at the centre of the solution. It asserts that physical (e.g. the built environment) and social (e.g. political, economic and legal) infrastructure systems are created to meet the needs and wants of people and communities. These infrastructure systems need to be in harmony with the environmental and ecological systems within which they exist, with which they interact, and from which they draw energies and resources. Such harmony will in turn promote harmony of individual's and communities' behaviours and interactions with the environmental and ecological systems. Mindfulness Engineering attempts to explain and frame the complexity and interdependency between infrastructures, ecosystems and societies. It puts its emphasis on the role of humans, and their adaptation styles and methods, in shaping the overall system's resilient properties and capabilities, such as thriving in the face of adversity. Mindfulness Engineering provides an interdisciplinary unit of analysis of resilience, called the Resilient Agent (RA), which spans across various domains and disciplines and links the concept of resilience to the future of urbanisation. With the increasing rate of urbanisation across the world [26], and enhanced utilisation of the internet and data, the building of Resilient Living Spaces (RLS) and Resilient Interfaces (RJ) must be an integral part of the future of engineering. Mindfulness Engineering defines mindfulness as being in the present moment and being conscious of everything from a variety of perspectives (including history and future) across the environmental, ecological, social and technological domains, when creating new concepts and distinctions in the process of satisfying human needs and wants. It explicitly seeks to avoid automatic, "mindless" thought processes. In other words, it emphasises clear, purposeful, cognitive functioning and learning. Mindfulness Engineering emphasises the role of biology in the ability of societies to interpret and effect change. It sees the surrounding environment as a vehicle for purposeful neurobiological rewiring of the cognitive functions and resulting behaviours of social agents living in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world. By emphasising the centrality of neurobiological and cognitive development, Mindfulness Engineering significantly elaborates and extends 'systems thinking'.

VUCA represents a constantly changing environment - a set of timeless circumstances that challenge a leader s ability to make decisions, develop plans and execute these plans flawlessly on a daily basis. This research focused on the influence of leadership, organisational values and organisational change on employee engagement within a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) environment. The construct leadership was further examined using two hierarchical levels, employee s line manager and employee s senior leaders to deepen the understanding of the influence these levels of leadership have on employee engagement A quantitative research approach was followed wherein a non-random convenience sample (N = 969) of permanent staff operating within the Retail Operations Specialities function of South Africa s largest non-food retailer participated in the study. Regression analysis was conducted to determine the strength of the relationship between the dependent (employee engagement) and independent variables for each research question. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was conducted to analyse the differences among group means and their associated procedures. Employee s senior leaders were found to have a stronger influence on employee s engagement levels in comparison to employee s line managers. In addition the study found that the application of organisational values have a positive influence on employee engagement whilst organisational change was found to have the strongest influence on employee engagement explaining 41.2% of the variance in employee engagement. The findings of the study challenges the current body of research by identifying that within a VUCA environment when employee s leave the organisation they leave their senior leaders not their line managers.

Allt fler storskaliga organisationer vänder sig till agila projektledningsmetoder för att bli mer konkurrenskraftiga i den snabbrörliga ekonomin, ofta benämnd en VUCA-miljö. Olika ramverk har därför utformats för att hjälpa företag att skala upp det agila arbetet, varav SAFe är det mest populära. Antalet akademiska undersökningar inom ämnesområdet är emellertid fåtaliga. Denna studie söker sålunda bringa klarhet kring varför stora organisationer initierar agila omvandlingar i enlighet med SAFe, vilka utmaningar det medför och hur dessa kan mitigeras. Detta genom en kvalitativ undersökning på Länsförsäkringar AB och Nordea. Resultatet indikerar att transformationer som sådana i synnerhet medför kommunikations- och koordinationsproblem, medan en kontextuell anpassning av ramverket kan vara en lyckad mitigationsåtgärd. Vidare visar resultatet att storskaliga organisationer inte nödvändigtvis är kompatibla med den agila metodiken. Anmärkningsvärt är emellertid att förändringsinitiativet av vissa respondenter också betraktades som ett steg i att bli en attraktivare arbetsgivare, utöver att bli mer effektiva och snabbfotade.

Transaction banking is changing in a fast pace due to digitalization, changes in regulation, new competition in the market etc. This acronym VUCA describes this environment; Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity. Due to changes in technology, politics and economics strategic renewal is critical to ensure long term survival. Middle managers play a vital role within strategic renewal and leadership behavior is important to be able to perform strategic renewal.   This study uses a single case study with a qualitative and inductive approach and five middle managers from different functions within transaction banking were interviewed. The interviews were conducted by semi-structured open-ended questions to be able to get an in-depth understanding. Based on the interviews it was possible to draw conclusions on the middle managers role within the strategic renewal process and connect their behaviours to the different leadership behaviours. Strategic renewal consists of four renewal journeys and in transaction banking there is an ongoing transformational renewal journey. It was found that Middle managers within transaction banking will best perform transformational renewal with a leadership behaviour that is transformational rather than transactional.

This research addresses the following issue: Traditional strategic planning philosophies and methodologies were not created or developed to reflect or support organizational participation in missio Dei (God’s mission). The following questions provided the focus for the research— Can the concept of a journey: • provide a more biblically and missiologically-aligned, helpful, and effective basis for creating new ways of leading and participating in organizational thinking and planning in and among mission and church organizations?” • address organizations’ desires to flourish in and respond to the complex local and global environments of today and tomorrow? • be effective in multicultural and global contexts? The questions above were addressed through three key areas of research: Metaphor and strategy, multi-cultural impressions of journey, and journey and Scripture. A process of qualitative inquiry drew from literature review, survey and case studies. The literature review included contributions from theology, missiology, business, history, and literary classics. The research was also enriched by the wisdom, cultures, contexts, and experiences of survey and case study participants, organizational leaders from more than forty nations. The findings come together to make a unique contribution to the study of strategy as relates to organizations that seek to be a part of God’s mission. The research primarily, but not exclusively, addresses the needs of Christian organizations, including churches. The study of strategy metaphors and the journey concept could be of benefit to any organization’s leaders. The research is informed by the work and journey of the Wycliffe Global Alliance, but the application potential and implications of the research are broader and deeper than any one group or type of organizations. Exploring the concept of journey led to findings concerning the importance of metaphor, the near-universality of journey as a metaphor, and the many rich facets of this concept when voices from many nations are heard. The case studies and research associated with the literature review also provided insights into how the journey concept can be practically applied across cultures and in ever-changing, and often complex, global and local contexts.

Due to increased globalisation and rapid changes in the technological, social, economic, and political spheres, the environment in which organisations function has become increasingly VUCA. These factors create a unique set of challenges for the leaders of these organisations. Traditionally tested and proven methods of leading organisations no longer guarantee high performance. The dynamic environment is challenging leaders to find new ways to be successful. To further complicate matters, the speed, frequency, and intensity with which the organisational environment is changing are ascending in nature. This qualitative study explored how six post-conventional police leaders in the Australian Federal Police (AFP) understand complex change. It identified the challenges facing policing organisations with the increasing complexity of the global environment, the increasing sophistication of criminality, as well as cultural legacy issues. The results show that these post-conventional leaders hold an acute and insightful understanding of the intricacies and interconnectedness of the complexities facing the AFP, while holding deep empathy, compassion, and commitment to growth as leaders. This study contributes to the development of police leaders to include adult vertical development.

VUCA är ett begrepp, som används för att beskriva den komplexa, oförutsägbara och snabbrörliga omvärld vi lever i idag. Det talas ofta om ett paradigmskifte och att det kommer krävas nya managementmodeller för att framgångsrikt leda organisationer. Det ställs ökade krav på organisationer att snabbt kunna ställa om, ständigt arbeta med förbättring och utveckling för att öka sin innovationskraft. Psykologisk trygghet är ett fenomen som fått ökat utrymme i näringslivet och i forskning under senare år, då det starkt korrelerar med individers och teams förmåga att möta förändring och vara högpresterande. Psykologisk trygghet är en gemensam övertygelse hos medlemmarna i ett team om att teamet är tryggt för interpersonellt risktagande. Syftet med denna uppsats var att bidra med kunskap kring hur företag arbetar för att vara i ständig förnyelse och bygga kapacitet i organisationen för att möta kraven i VUCA, samt förstå hur psykologisk trygghet kan vara en motor i det arbetet. En kvalitativ intervjustudie genomfördes med sex intervjuer på två större organisationer. Studiens resultat pekar på sex viktiga fokusområden för att vara och leda i ständig förnyelse och framgångsrikt kunna möta de nya kraven. Dessa sex fokusområden beskrivs på följande sätt: Storytelling -”varför” som möjliggörare för motivation och mening, Förmåga att lära - nyfikenhet som möjliggörare för nytänkande och innovation, Ledarbeteenden - vara förebild som möjliggörare för beteendeförändring, Individen i centrum - självkännedom som möjliggörare för  självledarskap, Ägandeskap - autonomi som möjliggörare för ansvarskänsla och empowerment och Arbetssätt - lita på processen som möjliggörare för struktur och uthållighet. Studien visar vidare att det finns stark koppling mellan psykologisk trygghet och de sex fokusområdena för att vara i ständig förnyelse och kunna möta kraven i omvärlden. Psykologisk trygghet är en möjliggörare för att bygga kapacitet genom dessa fokusområden. Fokusområdena bidrar i sin tur till ökad psykologisk trygghet, samtidigt som de möjliggör att vara i ständig förnyelse.
VUCA is the term used to describe the complex, uncertain and rapid changing world we live in today. Often it is described as a new paradigm with needs for new management models to continue to be successful. In order to be able to meet the new requirements, organizations need to develop ability to smoothly adapt to change, constantly work with improvement and development to increase their power to innovate. Psychological safety is a phenomenon that got more attention in business and research in recent years, due to its high correlation to the ability of individuals and teams to face change and to be high performance units. Psychological safety is a shared belief held by members of a team that the team is safe for interpersonal risk taking. The purpose of this thesis was to contribute with knowledge about how companies work to build capacity in organizations to meet the requirements of VUCA, as well as understanding how psychological safety can be an enabler in this work. A qualitative interview study was conducted with six interviews at two larger organizations. The result of the study highlights six important focus areas for being in continuous renewal and successfully meeting the new requirements. These six focus areas are described as follows: Storytelling - “why” as an enabler for motivation and meaning, Ability to learn - curiosity as an enabler for innovation, Leadership behaviours - to be a role model as an enabler for behaviour change, People centric approach - self-awareness as an enabler for self-leadership, Ownership - autonomy as an enabler for responsibility and empowerment and “Way of working” - trust the process as an enabler for structure and endurance. The study further shows that there is a strong link between psychological safety and the six focus areas. Psychological safety is an enabler to build capacity in these areas. The focus areas contribute in return to increase psychological safety and at the same time support the ability to meet the complex, uncertain and rapidly changing world.

A Gestão de Projetos (GP) ganhou papel de destaque na viabilidade dos objetivos estratégicos das organizações. O desenvolvimento de produtos e serviços vem recebendo forte pressão do mercado, demandante de lançamentos frequentes e em prazos cada vez menores. Para atender estas novas exigências, a GP deve prover informações úteis para tomadas de decisões em ambientes de múltiplos e complexos projetos, sujeitos a relevantes incertezas e volatilidade. Considerando as oportunidades de melhoria das práticas da GP para lidar com este ambiente instável e ambíguo, o objetivo deste trabalho é propor, utilizando o método de Teoria Fundamentada em Dados (TFD), um framework que prescreva como aplicar de forma combinada dois métodos de GP: a Gestão de Projetos por Corrente Crítica (Critical Chain Project Management - CCPM) e o Scrum. Os resultados obtidos por este trabalho apontam que a integração destes métodos pode potencializar os benefícios e atenuar as fragilidades de cada uma delas em particular, e cujo uso articulado e coordenado pode permitir decisões mais efetivas em ambientes voláteis, incertos, complexos e ambíguos (VUCA - Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity) de múltiplos projetos.
Project Management (PM) has gained a major role in the viability of the strategic objectives of organizations. The development of products and services has been under stronger market pressure, requesting frequent releases and in ever-shorter periods. To meet these new requirements, initiatives for maintaining PM as an information provider to make decisions in multiple and complex projects, exposed to relevant uncertainty and volatility, should be sought. Regarding the opportunities for improvement of PM practices to deal with this unstable and ambiguous environment, the objective of this work is to propose, using the Grounded Theory (GT) method, a framework that prescribes how to apply two GP methods in combination: the Critical Chain Project Management - CCPM and Scrum. The results of this work indicate that the integration of these methodologies can enhance the benefits and mitigate the weaknesses of each of them in particular. This hybrid model could permit a better articulation and coordination of the project tasks, allowing effective decisions in multiple project environments affected by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA).

Abstract The relationship between individual and organizational performance is a key challenge for leaders in modern organizations, especially with the current disruption in technology and innovation. This thesis is a literature review and compilation of the relevant empirical evidence on various processes of industrial groups and organizational characteristics such as the changing nature of work, leadership, and company culture in detail. I investigate the complex challenges that millennials and organizations are facing in the current VUCA work environment as well as their potential responses to these changes. I map out the evolution of the concept of work and compare changes in the workplace environment of the past, present, and future. Additionally, this thesis reviews the literature on organizational culture models, cultural fit and clash. I explore the intertwined differences and commonalities between management and leadership and also consider a gradual shift to a model of managerial-leadership in 21st century organizations. Furthermore, the research closely examines cultural change management through the lens of mergers and acquisitions. It also discusses next steps, like job redesign, team reorganization, and cultural reconciliation, to increase job satisfaction, employee motivation, and performance in future-ready organizations.

This is a bachelor's thesis in Mechanical engineering. The main topic of the thesis is the electrical calculation of the tap changer's shield. Although there are many kinds of tap-changers, this study focuses on VUCL models. The theoretical background of the thesis is that the new shield is suitable and useable in all VUCL models. The primary topic of the thesis is to study that the new shield protects the resistance box in the middle of the tap changers. To do this study, Creo Parametric, Comsol, and SpaceClaim are the programs used.
Detta är en kandidatexamen i maskinteknik. Avhandlingens huvudämne är den elektriska beräkningen av kranbytarens sköld. Även om det finns många olika typer av lindnings fokuserar denna studie på VUCL modeller. In the last decades many literary critics have appraised the works of Zanzibarian writers; referring to the prose of Mohamed Suleiman Mohamed, Said Ahmed Mohamed and Shafi Adam Shafi, M M. Mulokozi wrote in 1985: \"The most significant, and certainly most spectacular, development in the Swahili fiction of the Seventies and Eighties has been the emergence of Zanzibar as the producer of the best Swahili fiction to date, and the apparent torch bearer for the Kiswahili novel of the near future\" (Arnold 1985: 174). The same enthusiasm was shared by R. Ohly who, confronting the novels written by Zanzibarian writers and those by Tanzanian and Kenyan writers in a time span going from 1975 to 1981, has defined the Zanzibarian prose a challenge to the artistic competence of other Swahili writers (cf. Ohly 1990). Although I found the comparative pattern used by Ohly debatable, having concentrated for the up-country literary production only on popular short novels - to be better evaluated not following negative, contrastive cliches but within the context of that particular trend -, obscuring moreover other talented writers like Euphrase Kezilahabi or Claude Mung`ong`o, his criticism has nevertheless the merit of having highlighted the main qualities of Zanzibarian novels, namely a deep interest for historical and social matters, along with an extremely rich and colourful language and a serious concern for stylistic features. These attributes of Zanzibarian literary style fit very well to the last novel by Shafi Adam Shafi, Vuta n`kuvute, published in 1999; in the following pages my aim is to explore the way the author of this work artistically manipulates themes, literary suggestions and stylistic devices, re-elaborating thus the experience of Kiswahili and Zanzibarian prose in a creative way.

Ovom tezom je obuhvaćena analiza genetičke strukture i filogeografskog položaja vuka (Canis lupus L. 1758) na teritoriji Bosne i Hercegovine, na uzorku od ukupno 79 jedinki. Analize su sprovedene primjenom (i) 18 mikrosatelitskih lokusa nDNK pomoću kojih su detektovani: nivo genetičke varijabilnosti, populaciona struktura, prolazak populacije kroz genetičko usko grlo, te ukrštanje u srodstvu, i (ii) kontrolnog  regiona  (CR)  regiona  mtDNK  pomoću  kojih  su sprovedene filogeografske analize.  U  radu  je  uočeno  je  grupisanje  jedinki  vuka  Bosne  i Hercegovine  u  dva  genetička  klastera  što,  s  obzirom  na  slabu  statističku  podržanost, najvjerovatnije  ukazuje  na  prisustvo  strukture  na  većem  nivou.  Prethodno  navedeno  je detektovano analizama populacione strukture dijela dinarsko - balkanske populacije vuka,gdje je uočena distribucija vukova Bosne i Hercegovine i Srbije u odvojene genetičke klastere. Statistički značajni signali prolaska populacije vuka Bosne i Hercegovine kroz genetičko usko grlo u skorijoj prošlosti nisu detektovani. Sekvence kontrolnog regiona mtDNK vuka pokazale su se dovoljno informativnim za detekciju jedinstvenih haplotipova vuka Bosne i Hercegovine, za  koje  je  uočena  distribucija  u  dvije,  prethodno  u  literaturi, detektovane haplogrupe bez jasnog alopatrijskog obrasca. Pored toga, analizama sekvenci dijela kontrolnog regiona mtDNK  uzorka  vuka  Evrope,  uočeno  je da se demografska ekspanzija haplogrupe 2 desila mnogo ranije u prošlosti u odnosu na period ekspanzije haplogrupe 1, koji se poklapa sa periodom razdvajanja navedenih haplogrupa, prije oko 13000 godina, što ukazuje da je posljednji glacijalni maksimum imao uticaja u oblikovanju strukture genetičkih linija vuka u prošlosti. Rezultati dobijeni u ovom istraživanju su veoma informativni u cilju uspostavljanja pravilnog menadžmenta vrste i kreiranja plana zaštite vuka na nivou Bosne i Hercegovine, odnosno, na nivou dinarsko - balkanske populacije vuka iz koje se vrše rekolonizacije jedinki u susjedne populacije.
In this thesis, the genetic structure and phylogeography of the wolf (Canis L. 1758) in the territory of Bosnia and Hercegovina were analysed, from a total sample of 79 individuals. Analyses were conducted by applying (i) 18 microsatellite loci of nuclear DNA, by which we estimated: the level of genetic  variability, population structure, kinship, bottleneck and inbreeding, and (ii) control region of mtDNA by which we analysed phylogeography. Two genetic clusters were observed for the wolf population  from Bosnia and Hercegovina, although with statistically low support, which may point to structuring at the higher level. Indeed, after analysing the population structure at the higher, Dinaric - Balkan level, the distribution of wolves  from Bosnia and Hercegovina and  Serbia was observed as falling into two distinct genetic clusters. Statistically significant signs of the recent bottleneck were not observed in the wolf  population from Bosnia and Hercegovina. Analyses of control region mtDNA were conducted with the aim of detecting haplotypes in the Bosnia and Hercegovina population, as well as in the European  samples. Distribution of  haplotypes into two haplogroups, described in previous literature, was  observed, without a clear alopatric phylogeny pattern. Furthermore, the analyses of the same  molecular marker showed that demographic expansion of haplogroup 2 occurred significantly earlier when compared to the demographic explosion of haplogroup 1 . Results from this study are extremely  important for the creation of a management plan for wolves from Bosnia and Hercegovina, and at the higher Dinaric - Balkan level.

Estes modelos sÃo comumente utilizados em atividades de planejamento de transportes e gerenciamento de trÃfego. Ademais, à proposto e detalhado um mÃtodo de coleta de emissÃes com dispositivo embarcado em campo, alÃm de simulaÃÃes de trÃfego com o objetivo de estimar as emissÃes de poluentes de veÃculos de carga em Ãrea urbana. à apresentado o detalhamento dos experimentos para anÃlise dos simuladores de trÃfego com modelos de emissÃo integrados. TrÃs simuladores de trÃfego foram utilizados na estimaÃÃo das emissÃes: AIMSUN, INTEGRATION e VISSIM. O experimento mostrou que os limites de emissÃes estabelecidos por lei nÃo estÃo sendo observados para os Materiais Particulados. O experimento mostrou que para Materiais Particulados o simulador de trÃfego AIMSUN apresentou dados mais prÃximos dos coletados em campo, jà para MonÃxido de Carbono e Ãxidos de NitrogÃnio o simulador INTEGRATION apresentou dados mais prÃximos, considerando o fator de suma importÃncia, a ausÃncia de calibraÃÃo dos modelos, mostrando a necessidade de calibraÃÃo acurada para levantamentos mais prÃximos dos colhidos em campo, pois os resultados foram pÃfios comparados com os reais. Para veÃculos de maiores dimensÃes, foram observados menores Ãndices de emissÃes, em funÃÃo de a modelagem considerar fortemente a velocidade e aceleraÃÃo para realizar as estimativas. Por Ãltimo, com o aumento do trÃfego foi observado aumento de emissÃes de Materiais Particulados, mas os Ãxidos de Carbono e NitrogÃnio se mantiveram aproximadamente constantes com a variaÃÃo do trÃfego.
The main topic of this work is the analysis of the integrated modelling of air pollutants emissions of light-duty vehicle in urban areas with dynamic traffic models. These models constitute fundamental components to support the development and assessment of traffic management policies, and the optimization of their parameters, to alleviate the negative impacts of road traffic. Furthermore, it is proposed and detailed a method for collecting real emission from light-duty vehicle in a dynamic traffic state. In this work, the details of the experiments for analysis of traffic simulators with integrated emission models are presented. Three traffic simulators have been used in the analysis: AIMSUN, INTEGRATION and VISSIM. The experiment showed that the emission limits established by law are not being observed/real for Particulate Materials (PM). The experiment showed that the estimative of PM from AIMSUNâs model is closest presented data real, since for Carbon Monoxide and Nitrogen Oxides the INTEGRATIONâs model is better. In this work not employed calibration effort, showing the need for more accurate calibration for future researchs. For larger vehicles, lower emission rates were observed, depending on the modeling strongly consider the speed and acceleration to make the estimates. Finally, with the increase in traffic increased emissions of particulates were observed, but the oxides of carbon and nitrogen remained approximately constant with changes in the traffic.

This thesis is a contribution to the study of modulo p tiling. Many mathematical and computational tools were used for the study of rhythmic tiling canons. Recent research has mainly focused in finding tiling without inner periodicity, being called Vuza canons. Those canons are a constructive basis for all rhythmic tiling canons, however, they are really difficult to obtain. Best current method is a brut force exploration that, despite a few recent enhancements, is exponential. Many technics have been used, hoping to understand Vuza canons better or to generate them faster. Hence, this thesis presents a completely new way to study aperiodic tiling

Não foi encontrada informação sobre uma técnica fisioterapêutica que prevenisse ou minimizasse essas complicações. A drenagem linfática manual e a cinesioterapia obtiveram bons resultados na prevenção de complicações similares após mastectomias radicais e foram avaliadas nas mulheres neste estudo. Objetivo: Avaliar a eficácia da drenagem linfática manual e da cinesioterapia na prevenção e minimização de complicações pós-operatórias de linfadenectomia inguinal em mulheres tratadas por neoplasia da vulva. Sujeitos: mulheres divididas em dois grupos: o GRUPO COM FISIOTERAPIA que recebeu a intervenção fisioterápica, formado por 11 mulheres atendidas no CAISM-Unicamp entre janeiro e dezembro de 2003, com diagnóstico de neoplasia de vulva e submetido à linfadenectomia inguinal; e o GRUPO SEM FISIOTERAPIA, que foi constituído por todas as mulheres atendidas e tratadas pela mesma doença, durante os anos de 2000 a 2002, mas sem a intervenção fisioterápica proposta. Métodos: realizou-se um estudo de intervenção não aleatorizado controlado, não concorrente, em que cada mulher do GRUPO COM FISIOTERAPIA recebeu a fisioterapia com cinesioterapia e drenagem linfática manual por 10 dias pós-operatórios e avaliada em quatro momentos para perimetria das pernas e coxas e goniometria de flexão e abdução da articulação coxofemoral: uma avaliação pré-operatória e três pós-operatórias no 10º., 30º. e 90º. dias. Posteriormente, o GRUPO COM FISIOTERAPIA foi comparado com o GRUPO SEM FISIOTERAPIA, formado por 32 mulheres, com relação à ocorrência de deiscência da ferida cirúrgica, tempo para a sua ocorrência e tempo de internação. Resultados: Os grupos foram similares para as principais características das mulheres, doença e tratamento realizado. Em todas as mulheres do GRUPO COM FISIOTERAPIA foi possível realizar a intervenção fisioterápica e suas avaliações. Não foi observado piora na incidência de deiscência de ferida cirúrgica, no tempo para sua ocorrência e de internação. Embora sem significância estatística, houve 72% de deiscência no GRUPO SEM FISIOTERAPIA contra apenas 45% no GRUPO COM FISIOTERAPIA. As amplitudes de movimentos da articulação coxofemoral para flexão e abdução do GRUPO COM FISIOTERAPIA foram mantidas ou aumentadas em relação ao pré-operatório e a perimetria de coxas e pernas apresentou tendência de aumento somente após o 30º. dia de pósoperatório, mas com aumento ponderal concomitante. Conclusões: o grupo que recebeu a cinesioterapia e drenagem linfática manual no pós-operatório apresentou tendência a ter menos deiscência, principalmente aquelas mulheres submetidas à linfadenectomia inguinal superficial, sem alterações no tempo para a deiscência e de internação. E ainda, apresentaram perimetria dos membros inferiores estáveis e amplitude de movimentos do quadril mantida ou aumentada
Abstract: Introduction: The vulvar neoplasia is an uncommon disease and radical surgery is the main treatment but often bring complications, some of them serious as dehiscence and leg lymphedema. It wasn¿t find an physiotherapy technique that warn or minimize these complications. The lymphatic manual drainage and the kinesiotherapy were sucessful in prevention of similar complications in post radical mastectomy cases and were evaluated in this study. Objectives: Evaluate the efficacy of lymphatic manual drainage and kinesiotherapy in prevention and minimization of groin lymphadenectomy postoperative complications in vulvar neoplasia trated womem. Subjects: womem were separated in two groups: the WITH PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP that received physiotherapy intervention formed of eleven womem that were served in Gynaecology Oncology of ISM-Unicamp area, between January and December of 2003 with diagnosis of neoplasia of the vulva and submited to groin lymphadenectomy and the NO PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP that was made by all women served and treated for the same illness in the same area during 2000-2002 but don't received physiotherapy intervention proposal. Methods: is a no randomized controlled trial where every woman of WITH PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP received physiotherapy intervention with lymphatic manual drainage and kinesiotherapy during 10 postoperative days and valued at four moments for legs and thigh perimetry and goniometry of coxofemoral joint flexion and abduction: one preoperative assessment and three postoperatives in 10th., 30th. and 90th. days. Subsequent, the WITH PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP was compared with the NO PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP, made by 32 women, about occurrence of dehiscence and time for your occurred and admitted time. Results: The groups were similars for the most important women characteristics, illness and the treatment done. While dehiscence incidence was 72% in NO PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP, it was only 45% in WITH PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP, all in WITH PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP associate to deep groin lymphadenectomy. The admitted time and occurred time of dehiscence wasn't different in WITH PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP and NO PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP groups. The coxofemoral joint goniometry for flexion and abduction of WITH PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP were keeping or increase about relation preoperative and perimetry of thighs and legs showed one tendency of increase after 30th. postoperative day, but with concomitant ponderal increase. Conclusion: the groups were similar for main patients characteristics, illness and the treatment done. The group that received the postoperative lymphatic manual drainage and the kinesiotherapy showed a tendency to have less dehiscence, especially those submitted to superficial groin lymphadenectomy, and the physiotherapy keeps or increased goniometry

O Mundo VUCA está cada vez mais presente no contexto laboral atual, colocando em causa a sustentabilidade e o sucesso das organizações que são obrigadas a adaptar-se velozmente e de forma eficaz. Face a esta ameaça, a cultura organizacional desempenha um papel importante, sendo pertinente desenvolver uma identidade empresarial bem como identificar e promover as competências mais valorizadas do Século XXI que facilitem as mudanças consoante à estratégia empresarial. O presente estudo visa identificar as tipologias de cultura organizacional das empresas portuguesas através do Modelo dos Valores Contrastantes e identificar as competências mais importantes no mercado de trabalho. De seguida pretende-se então analisar a perceção dos participantes sobre a valorização dessas competências pelas empresas bem como a importância que os próprios conferem a essas competências investigando consequentemente a relação existente entre a cultura e esta dupla perceção dos participantes sobre as competências. A investigação de natureza correlacional e de carácter exploratório utiliza uma metodologia de tipo quantitativo, em que os participantes são profissionais de empresas portuguesas. Os resultados relevaram que não existe muitas diferenças significativas entre as tipologias de cultura organizacional e que a correlação entre a cultura e estas competência é estatisticamente significativa, de modo que a cultura tem um impacto significativo perante às competências identificadas. Adicionalmente, foi demostrado que os comportamentos observáveis funcionam adequadamente como indicadores para medir e avaliar estas competências.
The VUCA world is highly present in the current work context, jeopardizing the sustainability and success of the organizations that are forced to adapt quickly and effectively. In response to these threats, organizational culture plays an important role in order to develop a corporate identity, as well as to identify and promote the most valued skills of the 21st century that facilitate this transition according to the business strategy. The present study aims to identify organizational culture types of the Portuguese companies through the Competing Values Framework as well as to identify the most important competencies in the job market. Furthermore, not only the analysis of the respondents’ perception regarding the way the firms value those competencies, but also their own valorisation, were subjects of this study. Consequently, the correlation between the organizational culture and both above-mentioned perceptions about those competencies was investigated. The correlational and exploratory nature of this research used a quantitative methodology based on a simple random sampling method where all the respondents were professionals from Portuguese companies. The results revealed that there are not many significant differences between the types of organizational culture. Moreover, the correlation between culture and these competences is statistically significant, hence culture has a substantial impact regarding the identified competencies. Additionally, observable behaviours function properly as indicators to measure and evaluate these competencies.

Submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS in the Department of Criminology at the UNIVERSITY OF ZULULAND, 1992.
The investigation aims at analyzing, describing and explaining the treatment of juvenile offenders committed to Vuma Reform School by various South African juvenile courts. The analytical method of research is used to describe methods and programmes of treatment in order to gain insight into the treatment programme of Vuma Reform School. The documentary study technique, supplemented with an unstructured interview technique is used to analyse data consisting of one-hundred juveniles and sixty-six officials - The farmer were committed to the reform school between January 1988 and May 1990, and the officials are in employment by June 1990. Two institutions form the basis of treatment of juvenile offenders, namely the juvenile court and the reform school. Findings of the investigations are as fallows :— (a) The juvenile court has a significant role in adjudicating a convicted juvenile. The legal provisions of dealing with such juveniles and presentence investigation reports presented by social workers lay the foundation on which treatment should be based. (b) The majority of juvenile offenders under investigation were convicted of property re1 ated offences and, to a lesser extent, offences against persons and administration of justice. (c) Vuma Reform School's Internal structure consists of four divisions namely, the management, professional, administrative and auxiliary divisions. (d) The majority of personnel at Yuma Reform School are unqualified to carry out the treatment functions of the Reform School. Further, there is no psychological division to carry out psychological methods of treatment and psychological tests; and hence no vocational training programme is provided for. (e) The treatment programme of Vuma Reform School falIs into three phases, namely: admission, treatment and education and preparation for release. Each of these phases has individual programmes. For example, the admission phase has the reception and orientation programme; the treatment and education phase has academic and educational programmes, recreational, religious instruction, food and clothing, and discipline and control programmes. Lastly, the preparation for release phase has leave of absence, family units and correspondence and reconstruction services within the scope of treatment. Recommendations of the investigation are as follows :— (a) The status of the juvenile court should be upgraded, conditions of parental and legal representation of juveniles be reviewed and presentation of the presentence investigation report be made obligatory to all juvenile court trials. (b) Alternative sentences other than whipping be employed more oftenly by juvenile courts. (c) The composition of the Board of Management be broadened and training of personnel be adopted as a matter of policy. (d) The treatment programme of Vuma Reform School be improved by employment of clinical psychologists; provision of literacy classes for juveniles who need functional knowledge; provision of vocational training, improved recreational faci1ities and employment of a chaplain and active involvement of juveniles into the religious instruction programme.

Emergent change is a pervasive force in modern organisations. However, the subjective experiences of emergent change for frontline individuals and teams have not been explored in organisational change literature. The integrative field of applied neurosciences offers valuable insights into the underlying neural mechanisms that shape these experiences and drive responses in order to meet basic psychological needs. Using interactive qualitative analysis (IQA), this study involved a focus group and follow-up interviews with nine participants at a South African software development company to explore the experiences of emergent change at work. System dynamics reflected that these experiences are significantly more complex than literature and practice currently account for, and that individuals and teams find their experiences of emergent change to threaten their sense of safety and basic psychological needs. The physiological and emotional experiences were found to be driving elements. Peak performance state and the relational environment were found to be salient outcomes. Findings present the opportunity for the reconceptualisation of emergent change, a shift in focus from change itself to the human experiences thereof and the importance of embracing new possibilities, tools and practices for meeting needs and thriving in an ever-changing world.
