Abstract:
This paper examines the impact of the COVID-19 on The Walt Disney Company and the measures taken by the company, particularly the launch of the streaming service Disney Plus, to mitigate the economic crisis. The pandemic led to the closure of Disney's theme parks worldwide, resulting in significant revenue losses. The film industry also suffered as movie theaters closed and production was disrupted. As a result, Disney's stock price fell, and the company faced financial difficulties. However, the launch of Disney Plus in November 2019 provided a new source of income and profit opportunities. When people had to stay home, the demand for streaming services surged, and Disney Plus capitalized on this trend. As a result, the success of Disney Plus exceeded expectations, surpassing 60 million subscribers by August 2020. The paper analyzes the strategies employed by Disney to promote Disney Plus, including releasing blockbuster films directly on the platform and extensive advertising campaigns across various media channels. The company's public statements emphasizing its commitment to streaming media and its confidence in Disney Plus further contributed to its success. Overall, Disney Plus played a crucial role in mitigating the financial impact of the COVID-19 on The Walt Disney Company.

Abstract:
This article analyses Walt Disney Company's business strategy and stock price. Disney is currently the second largest media and entertainment firm in the world, behind Comcast, and the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020 has had a constant impact on Disney's corporate growth. We need to investigate Disney's performance as well as strategy throughout this unique period. I utilised Porter five-force analysis, SWOT analysis, and PESTLE analysis to determine and illustrate Disney's strategy. Next, I individually reviewed the financial reports of Disney and its competitors. I divided Disney into two parts, the DMED department compared with Netflix, the DPEP department compared with Universal, and then Disney compared with Comcast as a whole. Furthermore, I analysed and compared Disney's price-earnings ratio and enterprise value ratio to those of Netflix, NBCUniversal, and Comcast, respectively. Finally, I analysed Disney's stock price and projected the company's free cash flow over the next five years. The analysis reveals that Disney will have good business ability in the future and generate revenue in the future. I hope to provide some enlightenment to stakeholders.

Abstract:
In its hundred-year history, the Walt Disney Company has created multiple projects featuring characters from various minorities and indigenous groups. The purpose of this essay is to examine the later films of Walt Disney Animation Studios, beginning in the often-dubbed “Disney Renaissance” with Pocahontas and concluding with Frozen II, and analyze the portrayal of the native groups being featured within the narrative. Beyond this, the secondary aim of this paper is to determine whether or not any significant development has been made in said depictions in the studio’s projects, both as it pertains to narrative and visual representation, as well as reception from audience members, critics, and community leaders of said ethnic groups. Beyond the analysis of the chosen films and their reception, this essay will touch upon the potential conflicts which may arise when potentially vulnerable or traditionally ignored aboriginal groups see their culture commodified by corporations such as Disney. The findings of this essay are that while Walt Disney Animation Studios still struggles with representation and commercialization of indigenous groups, the company has evidently made efforts to respond to criticism, and increase its cooperation with aboriginal populations when developing featurefilm projects. For the most recent example, while the company’s immensely successful Frozen utilizes multiple facets of Sámi culture, it does not directly feature any characters of Sámi origin. For the sequel, however, the company made efforts to work with indigenous groups to ensure a more favorable representation, resulting in largely positive reception from Sámi audiences. Whilst there are still problematic elements present, and the company’s commitment to fair, accurate representation is likely motivated more by financial incentive than anything else, some progress has undoubtedly been made.

Abstract:
In 1940, Walt Disney was faced with crafting a message of corporate accountability under duress. His company, the product of his creative genius, had been forced to submit to public accountability. It had a pressing need to raise preferred equity finance for a major expansion during a period of market uncertainty, war, and reported losses. This paper conducts a “close reading” of the “Letter to Stockholders” in Walt Disney Productions' 1940 annual report, the first such letter signed by Walt Disney. The letter's rhetorical features, including metaphor and ideology, are examined in the context of the times. What is revealed is an accountability document skillfully crafted with the exigencies faced by Disney's company firmly in mind. The letter offers suggestive insight to the world as Disney made sense of it. The paper contributes to understanding the use of rhetoric by top management in activities related to aspects of financial accountability and reporting. It also helps to understand better a significant public persona of the 20th century, Walt Disney.

Abstract:
The establishment of The Walt Disney Company can be traced back to the year 1923, when two brothers, Walt and Roy O. Disney, founded a small animation studio that has further developed into a global media organization through strategic innovation, diversification, and expansion. The paper analyses the business development of Disney by looking into its historical background, diversification policies, globalization, digital transformation, and its social and environmental responsibilities. Through the acquisition of big studios like Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm as well as the launch of Disney+ streaming service Disney has furthered the diversity of the entertainment offering as well as kept up with the needs of the digital age. The international theme parks and media networks owned by the company show their global influence and ability to adapt the local context through portraying different cultures. Disney`s way of dealing with the sustainability and social responsibility is a solid proof of its environmental protection and community contributing. The COVID-19 pandemic, among other challenges, did not obstruct Disney’s goal-oriented orientation and resourcefulness in achieving the desired outcomes. Thus, this study underlines the everlasting impact of Disney and its innovative approach for further development in a very dynamical sector of the entertainment industry.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic had severe effects on the global economy in 2020. Among the most affected sectors were tourism and the entertainment industry, whose poor performance affected businesses that relied on the two sectors health. The Walt Disney Company comprised such companies, having diversified into business units that aligned themselves with the two sectors. The present paper examined the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on Disney by analyzing the performance of its business units. To do so, it sought to answer two research questions exploring the effects of the pandemic on the tourism and entertainment industries. The paper utilized a case study approach in that it evaluated Disney in isolation to other companies and conducted an in-depth analysis on the company. Results show that the pandemic had negative impacts on the tourism sector, but a mix of negative and positive effects on the entertainment industry. Negative effects included a loss of tourism numbers and a decline in the theatrical entertainment sector, while positive effects included the growth of video streaming services. Those effects translated to impacts on businesses such as Disney, whose diversified operations expose it to the tourism and entertainment sectors. Thus, business units that relied on tourism suffered negative effects, while those dependent on the entertainment sector recorded some positive effects. The paper concludes by recommending that Disney focus its efforts on growing SBUs that demonstrated resilience during the pandemic, such as the Direct-to-Consumer and International SBU that relies on the entertainment industry.

The emerge of new technology and media platforms has deeply changed the landscape of strategic business management and the global media industry. The company business strategy optimization is becoming increasingly significant in the era of the digital economy, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This article will utilize SWOT analysis and financial models to develop data-driven insights and in-depth recommendations on enterprise strategy transformation based on the case study of Walt Disney. The research results show that Disney should shift from offline business lines such as parks and stores to online streaming and interactive media, which will help Disney fully take advantage of their competitive strengths of the intellectual property portfolio and distribution channels to further develop the streaming media business segment aligned with the studio department. By transforming weaknesses and threats into new growth opportunities, Walt Disney will be able to achieve further global market outreach and maximize the profitability of innovation on creative content.

Abstract:
This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the language style employed in press statements issued by the Walt Disney Company, focusing on comprehending how this language style contributes to effective corporate communication. A qualitative descriptive methodology was applied, with the research drawing upon press statements available on Walt Disney's official website. The analysis of language style was based on the principles of sentence structure as outlined by Gorys Keraf, encompassing five distinct styles: climax, anti-climax, parallelism, antithesis, and repetition. The findings of this research revealed that repetition emerged as the predominant language style, accounting for 50% of the language styles identified, while anti-climax was the least frequently used, making up only 2%. This prevalence of repetition in press statements was observed to serve the purpose of reinforcing key messages, aiding reader recall, and ultimately facilitating more effective communication. This research explores how language style is important in business communication, using the well-known example of the Walt Disney Company. This research is looking at how the specific way language is used in their press statements helps them communicate better. These findings can be useful in different areas, like marketing, public relations, and business communication. Furthermore, this study demonstrates how analyzing language can help us understand the different styles companies use in their communication.

Aligning project management to the strategy of a big company is a difficult job. Through Imagineering (the business department and project management program), The Walt Disney Company has done this alignment in an exemplary way. Using a theoretical investigation, this study analyzed the Imagineering as a reference in strategic management of global projects through Disney´s business portfolio, a global benchmarking and with Malmberg et al. (2010) as a company guide. As the main results of the correlations carried out, it was noted that the Imagineers who work in project teams apply tools and techniques with a strategic vision focused on differentiation, generating value, and mixing imagination with technical capacity. The Blue Sky department and its integrated units make possible the creation and deployment of the attractions, the theme parks, hotels, resorts and the Disney sea cruises, demonstrating in this way, to be a highly effective project management office.

Abstract:
AbstractThe academic assessment of the products of the Walt Disney Company is usually highly negative, drawing out their sexist, racist, and mercenary factors. Although such views are not easily denied, their strong ideology often hides how Disney texts actually operate and how their audiences interact with them. This article explores how recorded music is used in the Disney theme parks to condition audience response, finding a middle ground between an ideological view, exploring the part music plays in social control, and a hermeneutic view, seeing how music functions in articulating and enhancing the experiences in which Disney's guests participate. Disney's Imagineers draw on the language of film music to create a wide variety of narrative musical spaces that give guests the impression that they navigate through these carefully staged narratives as protagonists. Film-musicological models show that guests are encouraged to feel that they control the respective spaces, although filtering the model through critical theory will demonstrate that the spaces can actually be seen as controlling them. While critical theory and structuralist hermeneutics might seem at first like strange bedfellows, analyses of both the narratives themselves and of their social effects can usefully reflect each other, together providing a more nuanced view of Walt Disney World's experiential texts than has been presented either in the academy or by Disney itself.

Abstract:
For the first time, the article introduces Fyodor Khitruk’s report about his business trip to the USA in the autumn of 1975. In this document from RGALI, a well-known Soviet director tells in detail about his work on the jury of the 3rd New York Animation Festival (among the winners of the festival was Yuri Norstein’s animated film, The Heron and the Crane), as well as visiting the studios — Walt Disney Productions and Hanna-Barbera. A significant part of the document is devoted to the analysis of a production organization — this issue was of particular interest to Soviet animators, who at that time were actively looking for ways to reform his largest studio. By the 1970s, at Soyuzmultfilm they often worked in a group method — a small film crew works independently with minimal involvement of production departments. A group method helped to achieve a high artistic result, but disrupted the rhythm of production. Based on the American experience, Khitruk formulates proposals on how to correct the shortcomings. In particular, the film crew of “The Rescuers” (Walt Disney Productions) shows what successes an improved group method could achieve. Hanna-Barbera is an example of a production company that runs like clockwork.

Abstract:
When Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983, the Japanese people welcomed this American cultural export with open arms and open wallets. The decade that followed saw continually rising profits and the highest spending-per-guest of any Disney theme park. In 1992, the Walt Disney Company attempted to emulate this success by opening Euro Disney, only to face financial disappointment and cultural backlash. While some basis for these divergent experiences might be found in the inherent differences between Japanese and European (specifically French) culture, this is by no means a full explanation. Instead, this article places more of the onus on organizations to approach globalization in a more responsive, rather than control-oriented, manner.

This article seeks to define and analyse the emergence of the term ‘Disney adult’, a pejorative term used by critics to describe adult fans of the Walt Disney Company. In reading the Disney adult as a kitsch-man, I draw attention to how critics play a role in the ultimate dismissal of a fandom that is attributed with excess sentimentality, feminized consumption and ornamentation, and aesthetic deviance. Additionally, I demonstrate how both mid-twentieth-century kitsch scholars and contemporary popular culture critics conflate aesthetic taste with the personal ethics of fans. In doing so, I demonstrate the politics of consumption and how discrimination can operate within fandoms not only based on gender, but also age.

Background: Using celebrity endorsement to represent a brand can provide various advantages. However, if in selecting a celebrity endorser, the brand has not carried out the selection process correctly and precisely; then the brand can be threatened to face various risks due to celebrity endorsement tactics. Walt Disney Studios Indonesia experienced this in selecting Via Vallen as the singer of the localization song for the “Lead the Way” Official soundtrack. Purpose: This study aims to describe and analyze the selection process of Via Vallen. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and literature study. The data validation technique is done by using source triangulation. Results: The results showed that in the selection process of Via Vallen, the Walt Disney Studios Indonesia had carried out a series of selection stages as follows: market research, presentation, discussion to narrowing of candidates, meeting to final negotiations, and ending it with the signing of the contract. However, Walt Disney Studios Indonesia has not yet done the steps of contacting a PR agency to create an MPR campaign and proposing the use of celebrity endorsement tactics by the PR agency. Implications: Based on this research, it can be concluded that Walt Disney Studios Indonesia and similar companies could be more careful in choosing celebrity endorsers to represent brands to avoid disadvantages that could harm the brand. In addition, to strengthen this model, quantitative research can be carried out to see whether this model has a relationship with the success of choosing a celebrity endorser that can benefit a company.

Contemporarily, the U.S. film and television industry continues to grow, and competition among companies is stimulating. In order to increase its competitiveness and reasonably integrate the industry, the Walt Disney Company has adopted M&A measures. In March 2019, the Walt Disney Company's acquisition of 21st Century Fox was officially announced to be effective. However, M&A is a double-edged sword, and M&A brings benefits as well as risks. This study will further focus on the case of Disney's acquisition of Fox, analyze the acquisition motives, explore the source of acquisition funds, dissect the characteristics of the acquisition, determine the success or failure of the acquisition through a financial comparison before and after the acquisition. In addition, this paper will analyze the impact of the pandemic, providing reference for the development of the film and television industry. According to the analysis, Disney has been affected both positively and negatively by the pandemic and by mergers and acquisitions. Overall, these results shed light on guiding further exploration of the study meets unpredictable events in mergers and acquisitions.

Abstract:
The article's purpose is a temporal analysis of the origin of the theme park as a transformational destination, and its progressive development from "pleasure gardens" to a modern high-tech theme park with entertainment, recreational and educational functions that meets all the needs of the contemporary recreationist. Methods and methodology in the study of this topic, which were used for the practical analysis of this topic (historical aspect and influence of external and internal factors) have a systematic approach and a set of methods in particular: - methods of collecting and analyzing information, namely the collection of theoretical and analytical information on the history of the emergence and transformation of recreation parks, the formation, and improvement to their current state; - methods of analysis and synthesis of information, processing of collected materials, data optimization, and formation of own conclusions on the spread and popularity of international parks. The results. The article analyzes the stages of the formation of theme parks as destinations for recreation, which over time gained popularity and transformed under the influence of the needs of recreationists, and economic and technological changes. The problems that companies have during the design and creation of theme parks, as well as the way of their popularization in Europe in the example of Disneyland in Paris, are considered and illustrated. Practical significance. Consumers were constantly looking for a holiday that would combine interactive adventures, comfortable conditions, technological curiosities, films and TV shows, and sci-fi topics. Theme parks today demonstrate the highest rates of attendance and interest of tourists in their product, but analyzing the historical stages on the way to the development of theme parks, we trace the negative attitude towards new projects in Europe. Therefore, the analysis of historical stages is important when creating new projects, to take into account similar experiences, the development of image marketing, and the choice of a common topic when creating a park. In general, the future of theme parks depends on the economic conditions and quality of services provided, the level of epidemic diseases, but as a tourist product it has very attractive prospects, which is confirmed by the financial reports of companies. The concept of theme park development consists of intensive improvement, and the introduction of the latest technologies and refers to the most promising areas in the development of the tourism sector, which is of interest to research in order to further implement knowledge for new projects.

Abstract:
In this article, I insist on a broader conceptualisation of the Disney Vault, not only as a figurative place for films outside of their distribution windows, but also as an industrial practice of vaulting which continues to play a role at the Walt Disney Company. Drawing on primary resources and the company’s home-video distribution history, I explore Disney’s relationship to past, present, and future. I posit that mobilising the Vault as a branding tool has broader historiographical implications in that it works as a tool of public relations that obfuscates problematic corporate histories—even as the company continues to distribute content in the streaming age. Using Song of the South (Wilfred Jackson, 1946) and the film’s paratexts as a case study, I consider how contemporary language surrounding the Vault has served to mask Disney’s most problematic and notorious property in the streaming age. By painting the streaming platform as a democratic space of open access, Disney conceals a fraught past by guiding users to believe that they maintain complete access to the Disney collection. Recognising vaulting as an industry practice can help researchers more effectively account for the limitations of the corporate-owned streaming archive.

Each mild adjustment will exert unpredictable effects on the stock market performance. A report is required to make the influence predictable and determine the relationship between Disney’s strategy and its investment value, which enables the investors to avoid loss. To analyze Disney’s current strategy, the report adopts PEST and SWOT models and ESG ratings. The report involves absolute analysis (DCF) and relative analysis (PE) to calculate Disney’s investment value. The report reflects on whether Disney is worth investing in by comparing its valuations with several other major competitors. In addition, by calculating the volatility, the report illustrates the risk of investing in Disney. Through those analyses, the result is that although Disney is undergoing challenges, it still has an anticipated vision. Therefore, from the perspective of long-term investment, Disney is worth to be invested in because the challenges also create opportunities.

Since the US Supreme Court recognized the fundamental right to same-sex marriage, the wedding industry has expanded to a new slate of consumers. The Walt Disney Company has been no different, marketing towards same-sex Disney fans hoping to have their own ‘fairy tale wedding’. However, due to Disney’s ‘family-friendly’ brand identity and their complex relationship to the queer community, this process has been highly fraught. This is evidenced in Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings (DFTW), an infotainment series following the planning and execution of elaborate, Disney-themed marriages, engagements and anniversaries that both promotes Disney’s catalogue of economic holdings such as parks, cruises and expeditions, as well as reinforces a unique Disney brand of romance. Through a content and political economic analysis of DFTW, I argue the show exemplifies the reabsorption of counter-hegemonic ideologies into a dominant framework, wherein ‘non-traditional’ marriages help consolidate pre-existing systems of power and reinforce oppressive economic regimes.

In 2013, the Walt Disney Company submitted an application to trademark “Día de los muertos” (Day of the Dead) as they prepared to launch a holiday themed movie. Almost immediately after this became public Disney faced such strong criticism and backlash they withdrew their petition. By October of 2017 Disney/Pixar released the animated film Coco. Audiences in Mexico and the U.S. praised it's accurate and authentic representation of the celebration of Day of the Dead. In this essay, I argue that despite its generic framing, Coco mobilizes many elements of horror in its account of Miguel's trespassing into the forbidden space of the dead and his transformation into a liminal figure, both dead and alive. Specifically, with its horror so deftly deployed through tropes and images of borders, whether between life and death or the United States and Mexico, Coco falls within a new genre, the border horror film.

Abstract:
The transmediation involved in recent Walt Disney Company productions including A Wrinkle in Time, Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Coco, and Moana engage with a process of visualizing the nonvisual in ways that have heretofore differed from past Disney offerings. These films respond to calls for increased diversity, unlocking the potential of imagined spaces on a global scale. Although it addresses postcolonial identity politics that are both salient and fraught in the current geopolitical climate, such diversity nevertheless serves Disney’s corporate interests, (re)producing a colonizing progression decentralized from the nation-state but rooted in projection of culture. As Disney adapts new narratives, it also engages in a process of incorporation, absorbing these narratives into the larger framework of the overarching corporate structure of the “magic kingdom”—intended to designate a cultural home for childhood, imagination, and reminiscence of how things were and what they might become. I contend that Disney’s incorporation of new narratives extends greater access to imaginary spaces while producing a homogenizing effect on global media culture.
