Warrior burials are not often found in late ancient necropolises of the Cimmerian Bosporus. Such burials rarely survive untouched by robbers. In this context, a recently discovered well-preserved large tomb in Phanagoria is a really unique find. After examining this grand two-chamber vault, archaeologists obtained a set of interesting data, but special attention should be paid to warrior traditions adopted by people who lived in the late ancient capital of the Asian Bosporus. The importance of warrior subculture of the Migration period for the urban elite is manifested in the use of warrior fi

American military and political leaders increasingly suggest a strong warrior ethos is key to the military’s ability to succeed. As with many widely-used phrases, “warrior ethos” is open to various interpretations. Yet more than many other pressing political and social issues, a shared understanding of warrior ethos matters a great deal to our ability to maintain national security in today’s complex, rapidly changing technological and geopolitical environment. Who fights—and why they fight—and how warriors see themselves, are not merely academic questions. They profoundly shape how we conceive

Warriors enter a world where the expectation of a normal life span is challenged by the death of comrades and where martial skill cannot ensure survival. This paper examines the way in which the Diola of Senegambia used religious practices and ideas to lessen the uncertainty of war during the eighteenth and nineteenth century. This dissertation presents a new interpretative synthesis of the sources relating to the cults, identities, and functions of the god Ares, focusing on the Archaic and Classic periods. An apparent dichotomy is identified: in many respects, the evidence suggests that Ares must have been a very important god throughout much of the Greek world throughout the Archaic and Classic periods (and beyond), but in other respects the evidence suggests that he was not. I argue that this dichotomy does not derive from changes in the popularity, relevance, or nature of the god, as has been proposed. Instead,

Ritual consistency of conflict during the early Middle Ages forced young men to conform to an image of heroism based almost entirely on deeds performed in battle. Our primary role model is Beowulf. This will lead to a discussion of key pieces from the Staffordshire Hoard and how they (and their mutilations) make these ideas of warriorness manifest. Abstract:
В 2001 г. Abstract:
The ability to quickly disseminate geospatial data across all echelons, particularly those at the tactical edge, is critical to meeting threats described by the Multi-Domain Operations doctrine. The US Army Engineer Research and Development Center, Geospatial Research Laboratory (ERDC-GRL), is researching the optimization of the formats, data models, file sizes, and quality of geospatial products to be exploited by end-user devices (EUDs). This report describes a processing methodology comprising custom software and open-source tools to optimize Army Geospatial Enterprise Standard Sharable Geo
