Abstract:
This paper introduces a novel age estimation method using a new texture descriptor Weber Local Descriptor (WLD). This texture descriptor is analyzed in depth for age estimation problem. In the study, the multi-scale versions of holistic and spatial WLD (SWLD) descriptors are used to extract the age related features from normalized facial images. After finding a lower dimensional feature subspace, age estimation is performed using multiple linear regression. In addition the age estimation accuracy of each of the distinct and intersection block used in spatial texture extraction are investigated

Iris recognition is a robust biometric technology. This paper proposes a novel local descriptor for bovine iris recognition, named Gabor Weber local descriptor (GWLD). We first compute the Gabor magnitude maps for the input bovine iris image, and then calculate the differential excitation and orientation for each pixel over each Gabor magnitude map. After that, we use these differential excitations and orientations to construct the GWLD histogram representation. Finally, histogram intersection is adopted to measure the similarity between different GWLD histograms. The experimental results on t

In this paper, we have proposed a robust and an efficient text detector in a video frame. The proposed model is based on Weber’s excitation principle and difference of excitation information is used to highlight the textual data in a video frame. In order to exhibit the performance of the proposed model, we have conducted experimentation on the standard ICDAR-2003 dataset and our own video database. Experimental comparison and objective comparison is also provided with the recently proposed models.

This paper presents a simple and novel approach for robust face recognition. Extended multi-scale Weber local descriptor based on unfixed size patches is proposed to obtain micro and macro patterns. Then the recognition is performed using nearest neighborhood method based on Chi-square distance. Voting strategy is utilized in classification to reduce the impacts of the poor quality regions in face image caused by pose, illumination variations. Experiments on CMU-PIE, FERET and AR databases show that the proposed method has higher recognition accuracy in comparison with traditional methods.

The individual identification of group-housed pigs plays an important role in breeding process management and individual behavior analysis. Recently, livestock identification methods based on the side view or face image have strict requirements on the position and posture of livestock, which poses a challenge for the application of the monitoring scene of group-housed pigs. To address the issue above, a Weber texture local descriptor (WTLD) is proposed for the identification of group-housed pigs by extracting the local features of back hair, skin texture, spots, and so on.
