In spite of this the mechanisms by which platelets help to maintain vascular integrity in undamaged blood vessels have not been clearly defined. The concept of endothelial support suggested by the work of Wojcik, Van Horn, Webber and Johnson (6) has been controversial as it implies a direct interaction between platelets and endothelium.
