We evaluated relative risk of developing first ischemic stroke and TIA among the patients with elevated systolic blood pressure (SBP) and/or elevated plasma CRP levels versus those patients with unelevated SBP and unelevated CRP. Methods: We studied 591 men and 868 women of the original Framingham Study cohort who were free of stroke and TIA at the time of their 1980–1982 clinic exam. BACKGROUND: Sex-specific differences in stroke risk factors, clinical presentation, and outcomes are well documented. However, little is known about real-world differences in transient ischemic attack (TIA) hospitalizations and outcomes between men and women. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study of the 2016 to 2021 Nationwide Readmissions Database in the United States. Adult patients hospitalized for TIA were included. Annual incidences of TIA hospitalizations for men and women were calculated using the US Census Bureau data. Primary end points were 90-day readmission for ischemic st

Methods: We followed a cohort of adults (≥18 years) without prior stroke from January 1, 2003 (cohort start date) to March 31, 2018, to identify incident events. We calculated hazard ratios (HRs), in women compared to men, of incident stroke or TIA, adjusted for demographics and comorbidities, overall and stratified by stroke type. Abstract Background Effective concentrations of antiretrovirals in the female genital tract (FGT) are critical for suppression of viral shedding or effective preexposure prophylaxis. The disposition of tenofovir diphosphate (TFV-DP) and emtricitabine triphosphate (FTC-TP) in the FGT have been previously described. Despite widespread use, however, lamivudine triphosphate (3TC-TP) exposure in the FGT is unknown. Depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) and vaginal dysbiosis have been implicated in increased risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) acquisition, but whether they alter TFV-DP or

AbstractThe increasing use of machine learning approaches on neuroimaging data comes with the important concern of confounding variables which might lead to biased predictions and in turn spurious conclusions about the relationship between the features and the target. A prominent example is the brain size difference between women and men. This difference in total intracranial volume (TIV) can cause bias when employing machine learning approaches for the investigation of sex differences in brain morphology. In placebo-controlled maternal influenza (MatFlu) vaccination trials of pregnant women living with or without HIV, reduced risk of influenza illness was associated with high HA stalk antibody titers following trivalent inactivated vaccination (TIV). However, the mechanisms of immunity conferred by the HA stalk antibodies were not well understood. Here, we investigated HA stalk-specific Fc effector functions including anti

We speculated that pregnant women carrying fetuses with ICL/P may have associated risk genes and specific brain changes during pregnancy.MethodsIn this study, we investigated T1-weighted brain magnetic resonance imaging data from 48 pregnant women: 2

Historically, there were several descriptions of various methods that were used to relieve the sufferings of the labouring women.
