There is lack of information on the yield and yield component performance of same-row and alternate-row mixtures (SRM and ARM) of widely contrasting barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) phenotypes. Therefore, four phenotypically contrasting spring barley cultivars, each selected to represent a unique combination of spike type (two-row or six-row), height (short or tall) and days to maturity (early or late) were used in 1991 and 1992 in field experiments at the Elora Research Station in Ontario, Canada, with the objective of determining whether a yield and/or yield-component advantage could be associate

Twelve early to midseason ripening tomato cultivars were evaluated for early and total marketable yield, fruit size, and external characteristics under the cool, short growing season of northern New England. The acceptability of external and internal color, texture, and flavor of four cultivars was evaluated by a sensory panel of 50 members. There was little difference between cultivars in total yield. This was probably due to an early frost that destroyed much of the later ripening fruit. `Summerset' had the highest early and overall yields but the smallest fruit size. `Johnny's 361` had high

Three studies evaluating production of strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) plug plants were conducted. The influence of runner tip plantlet size, container size, and chilling on the field performance of `Chandler' plug plants were evaluated over a 2-year period in central and southern Alabama. Plantlet size did not significantly influence yield following transplanting; therefore, grading of plantlets prior to propagation appears to be an unnecessary expense for successful yields from plug plants. There were no significant differences in yields of plug plants from 60-cell vs. 72-cell packs;

Abstract Osmotic priming effects on stand establishment and yield were evaluated for ‘Forest Green’ parsley (Petroselinum crispum Mill.) seed sown on three dates in the field. Stand establishment occurred under progressively higher temperatures for early, middle, and late plantings. This priming effect on seedling establishment for the earliest planting led to a 67% increase in early yield (96 days from seeding) and a 28% yield increase over untreated seed at a later harvest. S

Advances in silicon technology over the last decade have led to increased integration of analogue and digital functional blocks onto the same single chip. In such a mixed signal environment, the analogue circuits must use the same process technology as their digital neighbours. With reducing transistor sizes, the impact of process variations on analogue design has become prominent and can lead to circuit performance falling below specification and hence reducing the yield.
