Abstract:

The yolk proteins (YPs) in <i>Drosophila</i> have been shown to enter the oocyte via receptor mediated endocytosis (Mahowald, 1972; Butterworth <i>et al</i>., 1991). The YPs are sorted and specifically stored in the α-granules of the oocyte (Mahowald and Kambysellis, 1980). The aim of this project is to determine the YP domains involved in the specific interactions resulting in uptake into the oocyte. Abstract:

The present study sought to more rigourously explore outcomes of psychological well-being immediately following a psychotherapeutic yoga class. Specifically, the study hypothesized improvements in state anxiety and subjective well-being as well as an observable relationship between state and trait mindfulness following a yoga intervention, all while controlling for differences between yoga instructors, prior yoga experience, and participant endorsements of psychological symptoms. Cardiac, metabolic and growth response of early-stage chicken embryos to perturbations in yolk environment was investigated. Also, effects of parental hypoxia exposure on hypoxia resistance, thermal tolerance and body length of zebrafish larvae were investigated. In the first study, thyroxine, triiodothyronine and testosterone produced differential effects on heart rate and development rate of chicken embryos during the first 4 days of development. This thesis reports the effect of an integrated yoga practice on women diagnosed with secondary arm lymphoedema from breast cancer treatment (n=28). The study design was a blinded Randomised Controlled Trial in Hobart and Launceston (Tasmania) from February to May 2011. The literature suggests that at least 20% of women treated for breast cancer will develop secondary arm lymphoedema, leading to a reduction in upper body function and quality of life.
