Slotborer is a new machine prototype that is used for excavating platina in underground mines. To drill holes with desired depths there are several drill pipes that are bonded as the hole is drilled deeper with a threaded connection. This work have had the purpose of designing a new connection for these drill pipes as the thread design have shown to be problematic. A number of concepts were generated after which the most preferred, according to customer discussions and Pugh decision matrices, was chosen for further development and refinement. The chosen concept for development was a type of bayonet coupling and a more detailed 3D CAD model and analysis of the coupling strength were made. Analytical solid mechanics showed that the most heavily loaded parts of the coupling experienced effective Von Mises stresses of 230 MPa for normal drilling, 360 MPa for heavy drilling and 605 MPa for heavy back reaming. Contact pressures were analyzed with Hertzian contact theory and the maximum values of these were shown to be 2.6 GPa, 3.3 Gpa and 4.5 GPa for the respective load cases. An FE analysis made showed higher local effective stresses that was of the magnitude of 300 MPa, 500 MPa and 1200 MPa for the respective load cases. The conclusion of the concept development and analysis points out that the design is suitable for further detailed design.

Technische Universität Chemnitz, 2018. https://monarch.qucosa.de/id/qucosa%3A21441.
The presentation describes how to analyze a flywheel with axially bolted hub-shaft- connection using a conical press fit with help of the finite friction contact model in Creo Simulate 3.0. Since Creo Simulate 3.0 from PTC offers a finite friction contact model implementation just for large displacement analysis, but not for simple analyses with small displacements, the user has to work around a couple of code specific limitations. Best practices are proposed how to do this. Special attention is paid on bolt modeling and preload adjustment. Analysis results are compared with analytical solutions.

Petersson, Björn. "Design av mikrovågsövergångar." Thesis, Linköping University, Department of Electrical Engineering, 2003. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-1593.
In this Master thesis, microwave connections between circuit boards are constructed. The primary frequency band is the X-band (8-12 GHz). The purpose of the connections is to enable a more simple and cheaper way of mounting the circuit boards inside a container.
The connections have been designed and evaluated, using different computer programs. A few prototypes have been built and measured.
The main goal of this Master thesis was to design a connection, that would be useful in practice. The connections should be easy to manufacture and have a good performance. They should also have a high tolerance for manufacturing errors.
The main part of this report contains descriptions of different designs. The designs are presented together with simulated and measured results.
The report contains designs based upon coplanar waveguides and a phase shifting technique. The result shows that designs that are using coplanar waveguides are good. The phase shifting technique has some limitations and need to be developed further.

The present thesis provides analytical, numerical and experimental fundamental studies for the joining behaviour and the transmission behaviour of a friction and form closure steel-aluminum knurled interference fit. The special feature of this connection is a knurled and oversize hard steel shaft, longitudinally pressed in a soft aluminum hub with a circular bore. The most important parameter for the joining process is the shaft chamfer angle φ. Due to the shaft chamfer angle φ the material of the hub will be formed or cutted during the joining process. By using the relative strength, the quotient of push out force and joining force who describes the joint strength, a first quality parameter for a precise selection of steel-aluminum knurled interference fit has been derived. The description of the experimentally determined torque - twisting angle – curves has shown areas of design criterion and mechanical breakdown. The maximum transmittable torque is achieved by reaching the shearing stress of the knurls in the hub - mechanical breakdown τ S. Similar to the joining and the push out behaviour, the positive influence of the shaft chamfer angle φ is also shown at the transmittable torque. Furthermore, knurled interference fits joined by forming can transmit higher torques of about 40% than interference fits joined by cutting due to the material hardening. The mechanical-physical model for calculating the static transmittable torque is based on the serration connection. Thus, the torque at the design criterion and the maximum transmittable torque at the mechanical breakdown can be found. The consideration of the forming or cutting joining process is described as a function of the shaft chamfer angle φ using the so-called angle-based plastic strain ε plRPV

This is the story of my life. I would like to explore a helping worker`s awareness and action through self-narrative analysis. I try to find the meaning of my life, why I want to be a professional helper, and what made me decide to engage myself in helping people. A year of substitute service allows me to find the values of helping others and thus evokes my passion. Therefore I am very happy to embrace those who are in need. From the long, tense father-son relationship and the interpersonal difficulties I’ve confronted, I realized that I tend to escape from such kind of pressure. I left home when I went to high school, but deep in my heart I was still concerned about my home, my parents, or even the shadow of my bullied childhood. I felt like torn apart and was lost in the dilemma between fulfilling expectations from others and just being myself. As I was exploring the experience of my leaving home, I once again understood my relationship with my family, the interpersonal difficulties I’ve suffered, and my career development process. The new understanding did not give me answers to all the questions, though; however it made me see my limit as well as my capability clearly, giving me a new perspective of life. The study is actually a home-coming journey. Instead of escaping from problems, I returned to face all the challenges and bravely be myself. Because of the exploration and talks made during the research, I feel I have always been loved and blessed, and I shall carry the love with me to continue my mission of helping others.

A significant poleward shift of tropical cyclones (TCs or typhoons) and TC-induced storm surge in the western North Pacific has occurred in recent decades. Here we use 64-year rainfall observations around Taiwan to provide an independent evidence of the shift. We show that, due to the island’s unique location relative to typhoon tracks, TC-induced rainfall trends are significantly rising west and north of the island but are insignificant east and southeast, caused by a preference in recent decades for TCs to veer more poleward. Analyses of large-scale fields indicate that the TCs’ poleward shift is caused by the weakening of the steering flow and western North Pacific subtropical high, which in turn is due to tropic-subtropical Indo-Pacific warming and a weakened monsoon, consistent with the expansion of the tropics due to climate change. A sediment core collected in the bed of an isolated island lake in the East China Sea (120.3E, 26.9N) shows layers of high concentration of coarse deposition since the 1930’s. We show by analyzing in situ and satellite rainfall data, reanalysis data, and typhoon track data that the coarse-sediment layers were formed in years of anomalously strong precipitations contributed by passages of Mei-Yu fronts and/or typhoons across the East China Sea. Our study shows that sediment records can yield useful insight into the past climate.
