AbstractThis paper is devoted to a unified a priori and a posteriori error analysis of CIP-FEM (continuous interior penalty finite element method) for second-order elliptic problems. Compared with the classic a priori error analysis in literature, our technique can easily apply for any type regularity assumption on the exact solution, especially for the case of lowerH1+sweak regularity under consideration, where 0 ≤s≤ 1/2. Because of the penalty term used in the CIP-FEM, Galerkin orthogonality is lost and Céa Lemma for conforming finite element methods can not be applied immediately when 0≤s≤1

Abstract. Non-linear maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimates of atmospheric profiles from the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) contains a priori information that may vary geographically, which is a confounding factor in the analysis and physical interpretation of an ensemble of profiles. One mitigation strategy is to transform profile estimates to a common prior using a linear operation thereby facilitating the interpretation of profile variability. However, this operation is dependent on the assumption of not worse than moderate non-linearity near the solution of the non-linear estimate.

Abstract:
Like other crop improvement programs, a key prerequisite for the CGIAR Research Program on Grain Legumes and Dryland Cereals (CRP GLDC) to generate large-scale impact is large-scale adoption. Hence, evidencing the breadth and depth of such adoption is both of intrinsic interest and important for estimating downstream impacts, such as improved food and nutritional security, income, resilience, and soil health. While various GLDC adoption studies have been undertaken, a recent effort to systematically review these studies and synthesize the results is lacking. We undertook such a review, identif

Read, Matthew. Estimating the Effects of Monetary Policy in Australia Using Sign-restricted Structural Vector Autoregressions. Reserve Bank of Australia, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.47688/rdp2022-09.

Abstract:
Existing estimates of the macroeconomic effects of Australian monetary policy tend to be based on strong, potentially contentious, assumptions. I estimate these effects under weaker assumptions. Specifically, I estimate a structural vector autoregression identified using a variety of sign restrictions, including restrictions on impulse responses to a monetary policy shock, the monetary policy reaction function, and the relationship between the monetary policy shock and a proxy for this shock. I use an approach to Bayesian inference that accounts for the problem of posterior sensitivity to the

Abstract:
This paper describes the development and testing of a novel approach to evaluating development interventions – the POInT approach. The authors used Bayesian causal modelling to integrate process and outcome data to generate insights about all aspects of the theory of change, including outcomes, mechanisms, mediators and moderators. They partnered with two teams who had evaluated or were evaluating complex development interventions: The UPAVAN team had evaluated a nutrition-sensitive agriculture intervention in Odisha, India, and the DIG team was in the process of evaluating a disability-inclus

Abstract:
Drawing on 2023 1-year estimates from the American Community Survey (ACS), an estimated 1.3 million U.S. households were headed by same-sex couples, including 774,000 married and 530,000 cohabiting couples (authors’ calculations). In contrast, approximately 69 million households were headed by different-sex couples, comprising 60 million married and 9 million cohabiting couples. Prior research using the U.S. Decennial Census has shown that same-sex couples tend to have larger age gaps between partners than their different-sex counterparts (Schwartz & Graf, 2009).
