This paper compares recommended reforms to improve the Social Security retirement income program to the expected benefits of privatizing it. The research method is primarily theoretical, applying fundamental principles of finance and economics to analyze and evaluate each alternative. However, enough empirical data is also provided to test the author’s arguments and conclusions. The most important conclusion is that partial privatization would be better than the other recommended reforms, but a fully-funded and totally privatized program would be best, financially and economically for society.

The projection and implementation of the national continuous training programs for the teaching staff for the Romanian schooling uses formulas of blended learning more and more often. The virtual educational environment that has been created implies respecting the specific exigencies of such an environment which also has to satisfy several needs of a real professional training. Since the beginning of this century, the directions of innovation and the Romanian Reform of primary education have focused towards the integration of an interdisciplinary vision in the construction of knowledge and the

The arguments regarding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) typically revolve around two main perspectives. Thinkers of one perspective assert that Individuals or Organizations should engage in CSR primarily because it is their moral obligation to work for the wellbeing of fellow human beings and the environment because they have the resources to help the people and the government. Thinkers of opposing viewpoint argue that Individuals or Organizations may refrain from participating in CSR initiatives because the primary objective of any business entity is to make profit and pursuit of any ot

The world is increasingly urbanized and yet, even in urban areas, humans remain dependent on the ecosystem services that nature provides. This case study-exercise explores selected aspects of the dynamic between humans and urban ecology in three parts. First, we briefly discuss urban ecosystems and the context of biodiversity conservation in urban areas. Then, through a case study of the Million Trees program in New York City, we provide evidence and start a discussion about the possible benefits—as well as potential negative social, ecological, and economic consequences—of urban trees. Zoos and aquariums have evolved from 19th century “one of everything” menageries to conservation-focused institutions. Zoos may maintain and breed animals for several reasons, namely conservation, education, and research. There are three main focuses of conservation breeding programs: ark, rescue, and supplementation (support for in situ programs). Using practical examples, this module examines conservation breeding programs and major topics that must be taken into consideration when designing and implementing these programs (e.g., conservation genetics, population management, and adaptations

Abstract:
On the surface, global gains in educating children have been remarkable. Access has expanded enormously. So, too, has knowledge about ‘best practices’—both education-sector-specific knowledge about how students learn and successful teachers teach, and knowledge about ‘best practice’ arrangements for governing education systems. Yet the combination of access and knowledge has not translated into broad-based gains in learning outcomes. Why? In seeking to address this question, a useful point of departure is the 2018 Learning World Development Report’s distinction between proximate and underlying

This paper synthesises the findings of the RISE Political Economy of Adoption (PET-A) country studies by interpreting their findings in light of the findings of comparative research on the evolution of ‘welfare regimes’. This paper suggests that PET-A countries have not, for the most part, developed the sorts of political settlements identified as conducive to change in the welfare regimes literature or indeed others that might be expected to produce similar gains. They are instead dominated by predatory coalitions which seek to use education systems for rent-seeking, ideological, or other non

Abstract:
Bibliometrics is deeply transformed by open science. The unprecedented availability of bibliographic metadata, full text search and additional use metrics creates new opportunities for quantitative studies of scientific corpus. It also challenges the historical focus of bibliometrics on citation data from a few selected journals. New approaches aim to expand its scope to different uses and different publics, especially in regard to the social impact of research. As a field, bibliometrics has been strongly influenced by the first commercial infrastructure for academic publications. In the 1960s

The article investigates functional techniques of extralinguistic expression in multimedia texts; the effectiveness of figurative expressions as a reaction to modern events in Ukraine and their influence on the formation of public opinion is shown. Publications of journalists, broadcasts of media resonators, experts, public figures, politicians, readers are analyzed. The language of the media plays a key role in shaping the worldview of the young political elite in the first place. The essence of each statement is a focused thought that reacts to events in the world or in one’s own country. Th
