Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, or Forestier's disease, is a rare disease of the musculoskeletal system, leading to calcification of ligaments and tendons and, as a consequence, to ankylosing due to bone proliferation in the places of the tendon and ligamentous apparatus of the spine. As radiation imaging shows, the disease features are uniform ossification of anterior longitudinal ligament, mainly of thoracic spine, as well as damage to entheses. The disease may be detected accidentally and not manifest itself for many years, or it may be asymptomatic. In some cases, Forestier's dis

Screening is the investigation of undiagnosed disease in asymptomatic patients. Asymptomatic disease tends to occur before symptomatic disease, meaning screening should identify disease earlier in its course. Early disease is usually easier to treat, with less morbidity and mortality. Therefore, in theory, screening should reduce morbidity and mortality from disease. The UK has a national population screening programme for specific diseases. Also, GPs regularly perform health screening such as the NHS health check. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a multisystem genetic disease with autosomal recessive inheritance. CF is a progressive and life-shortening disease characterized by recurrent lung infection, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, malnutrition, growth and developmental delay. Since studies have shown that the course of the disease is better in cases diagnosed in the asymptomatic period, it has been included in newborn screening programs in many countries for early diagnosis.
