This article engages with a video game retelling of the biblical Aqedah and particularly focuses on the interactive nature of video games. In the game The Binding of Isaac, Isaac runs away from his parent, ‘Mom’, and fights back, which contrasts significantly with the passive and silent Isaac of the biblical text. The interactivity and immersion created by a video game medium has a significant impact on a player’s interpretation of the biblical story. This article argues that the video game depicts the Aqedah as horrific as a means to critique corporal punishment as used in some conservative C

Abstract While the traditional Christian teaching opposing abortion has been relatively unanimous until the twentieth century, it has been claimed in more recent decades that certain Biblical passages support the view that the fetus, or unborn child, has a lesser moral status than a born child, in a way that might support the permissibility of abortion. In this paper, I address the foremost three texts used to argue this point: Genesis 2:7; Exodus 21:22–25; and Numbers 5:11–31. I argue that interpreting the former in the literal way necessary to support abortion leads to untenable moral and ex

I argue that in Beloved , Morrison uses Genesis 1–4 as the structure for her novel, offering a bridge to students who are comfortable reading the Bible as a way into a difficult work. I argue that the Garner’s Sweet Home resonates with Genesis 1 and 2, that Schoolteacher’s Sweet Home evokes Genesis 3, and that Morrison’s masterstroke in the novel is her rumina

This paper examines traditional African child rearing styles and Westernised parenting styles focusing on the impact this has on the psychosocial developments of a child’s academic performance. In most African countries, during prenatal and postnatal periods, there are many rituals that are observed by the parents, especially the expectant mother. This has a bearing on the psychological and later cognitive development of the child. As a result, there is a paradigm shift taking place from a strictly traditional to a more modern oriented way of rearing children due to the influence of educ
