Abstract:
The objective of this study is to examine the factors affecting international container traffic, with special reference to the Port of Vancouver. In order to achieve this objective, a number of topics are examined. First, background information about West Coast container ports and trade flows and patterns of economic activity are provided. This is followed by an examination of the transportation system concept and by a presentation of important characteristics of current container ports. Then, the economics of container vessel size are discussed. The present institutional frameworks in Canada

These forces and moments cause the moored ship to move. The resulting ship motions due to the passing ship can sometimes be more severe than the ship motions due to ocean waves and can cause serious accidents at moorings such as the failing of mooring lines or even the total break away of the ship from the berth. The side-by-side Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) offloading operation from floating terminals to LNG carriers is very similar to that from super-container ships to floating quay-walls. The hydrodynamic interaction effects among a fixed quay, container ship and floating quay, which are parallel to one another, are investigated. The ship model was constructed using a computer aided design (CAD) tool in which the model was a 3600 TEU Panamax container ship. The hydrodynamic motions of ship-wave interactions were undertaken through the analysis of the commercial software Flow-3D. The different wave conditions were considered in the model with initial water depth 15 m, wave height 5 m and wave periods were assumed to be 8, 10 and 12 secs.

In order to reduce the impact of disasters, floating houses using ship containers are proposed in this research. The principle is to use the buoyancy of the flood to resist the weight of the container, so that the container can float up with the water level and adapt to the changes of the environment. Finite element analysis software (MSC Patran) is used to simulate floating houses. The floating ship container house can be divided into three part

As harmonic currents propagate through power systems, they result in loss increase and possible equipment loss-of-life. Equipment might also be damaged by overloads resulting from resonant amplifications. Therefore, this thesis studies the harmonic penetration of bridge-type ship-to-shore container

Abstract:
The size of container ships has increased significantly over the past decades as shipping companies merge and adopt tactics of economies of scale to meet increasing demands. Such practice has incessantly caused complications to operate larger container ships in relatively shallow approach channels and ports. This is because when ships move in water, changes in the flow around the hull causes the hull to sink vertically and trim either by the bow or stern. This hydrodynamic phenomenon is known as “ship squat”. In shallow water conditions, the squat effect is accentuated. Given that ever larger
