The nineteenth-century imagination of the Middle Ages—specifically the St. John’s Day dances that intensified in the wake of the bubonic plague, or ‘Black Death’—emphasized bacchanalian raucousness. This chapter examines the recuperation of medieval histories of dance—barely legible in Latin chronicles and annals—into a history of epidemic madness. This contributes to rewriting Foucault’s history of madness by emphasizing collective exuberance and the emergence

Abstract:
Since forests contain more than 70% of the Earth’s total phytomass, any significant changes in its reserves can affect the global carbon cycle, CO2 content in the atmosphere and climate. Currently, the likelihood of environmental crises and the danger of a further increase in CO2 content in the atmosphere has increased significantly. Forests plantations along the Irtysh-Karaganda Channel of Pavlodar and Karaganda regions have great socio-economic and cultural-ecological significance. However, their research has still been carried out mainly from the point of view of the raw material properties

Ixodid ticks are temporary obligate bloodsuckers attacking at all development stages. They pose danger to humans and animals as they are carriers of various natural focal infections. The current climate change trend towards warming creates more favorable conditions for the spread and vital activity of many arthropods including ixodid ticks. This article discusses ecological features of family Ixodidae ticks in the Kursk Region. A comparative analysis of the species ratio and biotopic allocation as well as number dynamics of ixodid ticks was carried out. In the Kursk Region in 2022–2023, 2 spec

Dark smoke hangs over busy, low-income neighbourhoods, while coastlines that poor island families call home slowly slip below wave after wave. Too often, those who did the least to cause the problem feel the blow first and hardest. That imbalance sits at the heart of environmental justice. It says that caring for nature and caring for people must walk hand in hand. When a new mine opens, a highway stretches through a community, o
