Though numerous empirical and theoretical studies have been conducted on the determinants and effects of executive compensation, empirical evidence regarding the bargaining effect on the monetary compensation decisions of executives, especially in a large emerging economy such as China, remains scarce. In this study, a two-tier stochastic frontier and endogenous correction model was developed to quantitatively estimate the bargaining effect on the monetary compensation decisions of investment bank executives. Abstract:
This report presents the Inter-American Development Banks (IDB) results of the Review of Callable Capital exercise, initiated by a group of Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) shareholders, to support efforts related to the G20 Independent Review of Multilateral Development Banks (MDB) Capital Adequacy Frameworks (“G20 CAF Report”). The report confirms that Callable Capital at IDB is legally valid and binding and could be activated by Executive Directors. Some shareholders have mechanisms in place to carry out a call on callable capital on short notice, and others have accelerated processes th

Abstract:
Financial and economic crises and natural disasters can have serious and lasting negative effects on income and poverty, and can cause irreversible losses of physical and human capital. The welfare effects of exogenous shocks have prompted multilateral development banks, including the Inter-American Development Bank, to provide crisis lending to their borrowing member countries to avoid retrenchments in development caused by crisis-related fiscal pressures. The Board of Executive Directors has requested that the Office of Evaluation and Oversight conduct an independent assessment of IDB's cont

Abstract:
The Board of Executive Directors is interested in exploring ways for the IDB to continue to reduce costs and increase efficiency. As part of OVE's work program and budget discussion for 2016-17, the Board requested that OVE include in its 2016 program a review of the Bank's administrative spending, with a goal of helping the Board and management identify opportunities for cost reductions. This exercise is not meant to be an evaluation per se, but rather an activity that fits more broadly under OVE's oversight mandate. OVE's goal is to shed light on cost patterns and trends to help the Board an

Abstract:
The Inter-American Development Bank is unique among the multilateral banks in the sense that it has provided concessional funding for its member countries since its inception, with the institution of the Fund for Special Operations (FSO) in the 1959 Agreement that established the Bank. The objective of this evaluation is to provide the Board of Executive Directors, when the Bank is engaging in a new increase of its capital, with an assessment of the performance of the Bank's concessional lending instrument, the FSO loan program during the period of the Eighth Replenishment (IDB-8: 1994-2010).

Abstract:
We introduce new firm-level indices covering input costs, demand and final prices based on listed Australian firms' earnings calls going back to 2007. These indices are constructed using a powerful transformer-based large language model. We show the new indices track current economic conditions, consistent with a simple conceptual framework we use to explain why there is real-time information in firms' earnings calls. Focusing on firms' price-setting behaviour, the reduced-form associations we estimate appear to show that discussions around final prices have become more sensitive to import cos
