Abstract:
Since the 1890s early film pioneers used their cinematographic oeuvre for educational and informative purposes. As a result not only did film production companies regard schools as a lucrative emerging market, but progressive teachers also welcomed this new resource for teaching and learning. Soon a professional infrastructure was created and included several teachers’ associations, film catalogues, journals, and conferences dealing with educational films and their use in teaching and the education sector.

In an era of massive university budget cuts and pervasive malaise regarding the future of the humanities, cinema and media studies continue to be a growth industry. Many academic fields have been paying increasing attention to film, in terms of both curriculum development and research. Jewish studies is no exception. Since 2011, a boom in publications has included a range of new books that deal with Jews on screen, Jewish themes in cinema, and the construction of Jewish identity through film. To assess what these recent titles contribute to Jewish cinema studies, though, requires assessing the

This thesis reveals and explores contemporary relationships between film education, film industry and film culture within a UK context through a series of interviews, data analysis, historical research and international case studies. It highlights what appear to be binary oppositions within film such as divisions between theory and practice, industry and academia or art and entertainment and interrogates how they have permeated film education to the point where the relationship between film studies and film practice is polemical. Also, the thesis investigates how a relationship between two bin

This thesis attempts to re-examine the work of Jean-Luc Godard and in particular the claims which have been made for it as the starting-point for a revolutionary cinema. It is this `Structural Marxism' which prepared the ground for a view of Godard as a revolutionary film-maker so its influences on film theory in the decade after 1968 is traced in journals such as Cahiers du Cinéa and Screen

Abstract Batch corrosion inhibitors are extensively used to provide corrosion protection for oil and gas wells as well as the pipelines that transport the hydrocarbons to the processing facilities. The traditional method to estimate the volume of corrosion inhibitor is based on a Rule of Thumb calculation that utilizes a desired film thickness and the length and internal diameter of the pipe to be treated. A discussion of the field and laboratory tests that were conducted to evaluate the thickness of batch inhibitor films and some of the variables that may affect film thickness (e.g. dilution,

Abstract The properties of an adsorbed corrosion inhibitor – Tall Oil Fatty Acid (TOFA) imidazolium chloride, on mica, gold and X65 steel were studied using in-situ atomic force microscopy (AFM). Topography images and thickness measurements show that the structure of inhibitor film changes from monolayer to bi-layer as inhibitor concentration exceeds its Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC). Further kinetic study indicates that the developing of a full film takes about 6 hours. Quantitative force measurements were performed to evaluate the mechanical and adhesion properties of inhibitor films.
