Abstract:
This study examines the processes by which mothers communicate with their hearing and deaf preschool children during a problem-solving task. Mothers and children from three matched groups—hearing mother-hearing child, hearing mother-deaf child, and deaf mother-deaf child—were videotaped while the mother taught the child to assemble a wooden pyramid. Hearing mothers of deaf children were less likely to adapt their interactional strategies to meet their children's communicative needs and achieve intersubjectivity than were the other mothers. Findings support Vygotsky's dialectical notion of cogn

ABSTRACTDialogic interaction between mothers and their age-matched or linguistically matched hearing and hearing-impaired children was investigated. The study employed the cognitively based System of dialogic analysis proposed by Blank and Franklin (1980). The System assesses each participant both as initiator and responder, and judges each participant's initiations for cognitive complexity and summoning power, as well as the appropriateness of participants' responses. Four samples of eight mother–child dyads were investigated, including hearing and hearing-impaired 2-year-olds and 5-year-olds

Thus, the interventions to promote the parent-child relationship and mental health of parents, especially mothers, should be studied. Hearing loss is a low-incidence disability, affecting 1 to 6 per 1,000 live births. Until recently, hearing loss was not diagnosed until 2 years of age or later. In the late 1990s, a push began for Universal Newborn Hearing Screening: the ultimate goal was that every newborn's hearing would be tested before leaving the hospital.Prior to widespread implementation of UNHS, some researchers found that hearing parents of deaf children had higher stress and atypical parent-infant interactions. All terrestrial mammals tested can hear and produce some type of sound. Mammalian vocalizations generally follow source-filter theory, whereby sounds are generated by airflow through the larynx (source) and then pass through the vocal tract (filter). Mammals can also use mechanical sounds (e.g., banging, slapping, and teeth chattering) for communication. S

Abstract Ontenna is a device that can be worn on the hair, earlobe, collar, or sleeve, and it transmits sound characteristics to the human body using vibrations and light. It can serve as an auxiliary acoustic sensory device for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), whereas for others, it can serve as a novel acoustic perception device. A condenser microphone mounted on the main body of Ontenna acquires sound pressure data and drives the vibration motor and light-emitting diode in real-time according to the input signals. This allows the user to perceive various sonic features such as the rhythm
