Abstract: As in any language, this lexical base is constantly updated, replenished with new units. The process of enriching the lexical fund is commonly called word formation, or word production. This process is inextricably linked with etymology, as with the science that studies the origin of a particular unit. Since the replenishment of the lexical fund is a continuous process, we can talk about the relevance of a given topic. Keywords: word-forming aspect, folk etymology, associative etymology, toponym, hypercorrection.

The dynamic nature of the language is associated with the continuous development of the lexical composition. The main process that causes changes in the vocabulary of the language, of course, is the archaization of the lexical fund. However, neither the issues related to the archaization of the vocabulary of Dagestan languages, nor the issues related to the dictionary description of this layer of the lexical fund, in particular, with the inclusion or non-inclusion of certain obsolete words in the dictionary, have been insufficiently investigated. The Role of Common Vocabulary in the Formation of Terms Summary The vocabulary of a language is a complex and dynamic system that reflects changes in society. Individual lexical units of the terminological layer of a language can move into the general lexical layer as a result of the massification of scientific and technical achievements, while the essence of the concepts expressed by a particular term becomes clear to a significant part of native speakers. Many current psycholinguistic theories view the mental lexicon as a listing of (only) unpredictable sound-meaning correspondences (primarily words and morphemes). Under this view, regular complex word forms and syntactic structures are built with rules during language production, obviating the need for storage of complex but regular linguistic material. This type of model conflicts with recent experimental evidence that suggests that lexical memory may in fact consist of a more heterogeneous set of linguistic units, including complex word forms and multi-word expressions that in theory could b
