Abstract:
The business model for organizational diversity states that “diverse” organizations have a competitive advantage over non-“diverse organizations. These advantages arise from increased creativity,1 problem solving,2,3 decision making,4 and overall quality of results,5 among other observed outcomes. Within academia, increasing diversity benefits performance and persistence of students by reducing the deleterious effects of solo status (being the only representative of a social group)/tokenism (member of a minority social group in a given organization) and stereotype threat.

Abstract:
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a useful instrument for team building, strengthening communications, decision making, and for diagnosing organizational dysfunctions. The MBTI is, however, also misued if used for employee selection, or to unfairly stereotype. Misuses of the MBTI and not seeing the instruments' full potential in the organization, stem largely from inadquate training. Training in the MBTI should be expanded to teach how to typewatch, shadow integration, and how to use the MBTI to improve customer relations.

AbstractA leaf choice experiment was conducted and the behaviour of the female weevil was observed before she commenced cutting. The female always performed a sequence of stereotype behaviours preceding cutting. The results of this study indicate that the female firstly decides the number of eggs to be laid in the cradle and then starts looking for a leaf suitable for that number of eggs. While the female is making a cradle, she measures and perceives for different purposes three different distances on the leaf (or something that represents each of them: 1) the length of the whole leaf, i.e. t

Nowadays in some advanced countries homosexuality is being given increasing social acknowledgement compared to previous times. Here in Indonesia there are a small number of homosexuals who have started to open up socially. This article analyses the tendencies of "other homosexuals" - that is, transvestites and transsexuals, and tries to understand their world from the inside. Up to now the majority of society still tends to negatively stereotype them, making their life marginalized, even though socially they are far more open compared to homosexuals. For this reason we need to face the issue o

Abstract:
Self‐presentation is a complex phenomenon through which individuals present themselves in performance of social roles. The success of such performances rests not just on how well a performer fulfills expectations regarding the role she would play, but on whether observers find her convincing. I focus on how self‐presentation entails making use of material environment and objects: One may “dress for the part” and employ props that suit a desired role. However, regardless of dress or props, one can nonetheless fail to “look the part” owing to expectations informed by biases patterned along commo

When we think of voices in the library, we have tended to think of them as disruptive, something to control and manage for the sake of the total library environment. The stereotype of the shushing librarian pervades public perception, creating expectations about the kinds of spaces libraries want to create. Voices are not always disruptive, however. Indeed, developing an academic voice is one of the main challenges facing incoming university students, and libraries can play an important role in helping these students find their academic voices.
