Abstract:

The use of spectrofluorometers to examine nanomaterials is quite popular using either fluorescence or synchronous measurements. However, understanding how a material’s optical properties can influence spectral acquisition are of great importance to accurately characterize nanomaterials. This dissertation presents a series of computational and experimental studies aimed at enhancing the quantitative understanding of nanoparticle interactions with matter and photons. This allows for more reliable spectrofluorometer based acquisition of nanoparticle containing solutions.

Cha

It is found that sample V1 and V1B have a higher n- region doping concentration then that of sample V2A. The measurements also indicate that the recombination currents in the devices are small. To understand the underlying mechanics of this method of gas transport, we studied the microstructure and material properties of the primary thoracic tracheal tubes of the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana). This PhD project dealt with different topics mainly linked together by fluorinated compounds. The work started from the preparation and characterization of mesoporous materials as support for catalysts for the production of fluorinated monomers of industrial interest. From these monomers, fluorinated polymers are obtained through industrial processes, with all their interesting properties, due to the presence of fluorine, such as thermal and chemical stability, flame resistance. This particular family of polymer find many applications, but their use as catalyst in gas-phase reactions is still

Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) quaternary compound has attracted much attention in the last years as new abundant, low cost and non-toxic material, with desirable properties for thin film photovoltaic (PV) applications. In this work, CZTS thin films were grown using two different processes, based on vacuum deposition of precursors, followed by a heat treatment in sulphur atmosphere. The precursors were deposited using two different approaches: (i) electron-beam evaporation of multiple stacks made of ZnS, Sn and Cu and (ii) co-sputtering deposition of the three binary sulphides CuS, SnS and ZnS.
The goals of this thesis were to synthesize nanocrystalline Zn, to study the mechanical properties of bulk nanocrystalline Zn and try to reveal the deformation mechanisms in nanocrystalline materials. Nanocrystalline Zn powder has been synthesized by a cryomilling method. The average grain size decreased exponentially with the cryomilling time and reached a minimum average grain size of around 17nm. Large numbers of small grains (2~6nm) have been found in the very early stages of cryomilling. Dynamic recrystallization (DRX) was used to explain the observed phenomena. Differential scanning c
