Abstract:
This paper focuses on the mathematisation of mechanics in the seventeenth century, specifically on how the representation of compounded rectilinear motions presented in the ancient Greek Mechanica found its way into Newton’s Principia almost two thousand years later. I aim to show that the path from the former to the latter was optical: the conceptualisation of geometrical lines as paths of reflection created a physical interpretation of diagrammatic principles of geometrical point-motion, involving the kinematics and dynamics of light reflection. Upon the atomistic conception of light, the optical interpretation of such geometrical principles entailed their mechanical generalisation to local motion; rectilinear motion via the physico-mathematics of reflection and the Mechanica’s parallelogram rule; circular motion via the physico-mathematics of reflection, the Archimedean squaring of the circle and the Mechanica’s extension of the parallelogram rule to centripetal motion. This appeal to the physico-mathematics of reflection forged a realist foundation for the mathematisation of motion. Whereas Aristotle’s physics rested on motions which had their source in the nature of the elements, early modern thinkers such as Harriot, Descartes, and Newton based their new principles of mechanical motion upon selected elements of the mechanics of light motion, projected upon the geometry of the parallelogram rule for rectilinear and, ultimately, circular motion.

Abstract:
The program system Pro/MechaniCa is a specific software product designed for solving of different kinds of technical problems in general engineering. We were looking for usage not only in the engineering but also in the terramechanical area. We realized a simulation loading of the soil with a rigid circular table and after the loading we calculated deformations and stresses under the table using FEM (Finite Element Method). This article shows a specific exploitation program Pro/Mechanica in an unconventional area as well as in the agricultural area.

Abstract:
Although the COVID-19 outbreak has decreased dermatology outpatient clinic visits, acne remains the most common condition among patients requesting an appointment. The widespread use of face masks may be a contributing factor to acne mechanica and folliculitis mechanica, where stopping the mechanical insult is essential to treatment. However, COVID-19 poses a unique challenge as mask wearing is crucial to limiting viral exposure. Although reported cases of mask-associated facial dermatoses are largely documented in healthcare workers, the general population is being affected by “maskne”. Pathogenesis and treatment options are discussed and the importance of counseling patients on proper skin hygiene is highlighted. As mask use increases, dermatologists should anticipate this trend in acne flare-ups.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article investigates the Arabic tradition of the Problemata Mechanica, a Greek text of mechanics ascribed to Aristotle, of which it has often been said that Arabic classical culture had been ignorant of it. Against this prevailed claim, it is shown that the Arabo-Muslim scholars had access to the text at least in the form of an abridged version entitled Nutaf min al-iyal edited by al-Khāzinī (twelfth century) in Kitāb mīzān al-ikma (Book of the Balance of Wisdom). The article includes the critical edition of the Arabic text of the Nutaf on the basis of the two extant manuscripts and its English translation. Finally, the mechanical theory in the Nutaf is characterized briefly.

Abstract:
This paper studies the temperature field variation of the chain link as well as the stress and deformation distribution of the pin which works in hot forging and stamping production line with heat recovery function. The approach is to build the model of the chain link with Pro/Engineer and apply it to the simulation with Pro/Mechanica. To be specific, it is to stimulate the thermal conduction of the chain link and the stress state of the pin under high temperature with Pro/Mechanica-Thermal and Pro/Mechanica-Structure module, respectively. The results are the temperature filed nephogram of the chain link as well as the stress and deformation nephogram of the pin. The simulation shows that:1) the temperature reaches 420°C at the contacts of the outer and inner plates at 600s, 2) the maximum stress of the pin is 112Mpa at the ends where the pin meets the outer and inner plates,3) the pins max deformation is 0.0159mm at the middle of the pin. Comparing the simulation to the actual temperature at the contacts of the outer and inner plates, which is measured ten times in advance with average of 439°C ,the simulation is favorable. According to the results above, graphite lubrication should be chosen for the chain and the pin can work properly with deformation rate of 0.795. By this way of simulating with Pro/Mechanica, complicated calculations and repeated tests can be reduced largely, meanwhile, useful parameters and mathematical model can also be provided for manufacturing and process control.

Abstract:
We discuss challenges and opportunities for developing generalized task markets where human and machine intelligence are enlisted to solve problems, based on a consideration of the competencies, availabilities, and pricing of different problem-solving resources. The approach couples human computation with machine learning and planning, and is aimed at optimizing the flow of subtasks to people and to computational problem solvers. We illustrate key ideas in the context of Lingua Mechanica, a project focused on harnessing human and machine translation skills to perform translation among languages. We present infrastructure and methods for enlisting and guiding human and machine computation for language translation, including details about the hardness of generating plans for assigning tasks to solvers. Finally, we discuss studies performed with machine and human solvers, focusing on components of a Lingua Mechanica prototype.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract In the early eighteenth century, the French Jansenist physician Philippe Hecquet began publishing prolifically on the benefits of what he called “meatless medicine,” calling for a “Catholic cook” to guide France’s physical, moral, and spiritual health. This paper analyzes Hecquet’s defense of vegetarianism as an early modern example of a distinct kind of Biblical medicine – what Hecquet termed “theological medicine” – in the context of his understanding of bodily mechanism, natural history, and Biblical literalism, in his Traité des dispenses du carême (1709) and La medecine théologique, ou la medecine créée (1733). I argue that vegetarianism was the first principle of Hecquet’s Biblical medicine, which he considered both a natural and revealed truth to be grasped and applied by the pious physician.

Abstract:
Efficiency and lifetime of manufacturing tools and mechanica l components may be successfully improved by application of thin ceramic coatings. When it comes to tools for machining of hard materials such as machining of hardened steel, TiAlN is one of the most usually applied coatings. This material is of high hardness, high oxidation resistance and high temperature stability. In this research, surface morphology, mechanical and tribological properties of TiAlN coatings prepared in industrial deposition unit were studied. Three different coatings were prepared by selecting different rotational types in a magnetron sputtering deposition chamber. Surface morphology was characterized by stylus profilometry and atomic force microscopy, mechanical properties by nanoindentation technique and Rockwell indentation test, while pin-on-plate test was used to study tribological behavior. It was found that coatings prepared by higher number of rotations are smoother, harder, and more resistant to cracking and wear. These differences are attributed to differences in coating microstructure which refines with increased number of rotations.

Abstract:
This study analyses the physical properties of recycled gypsum and mechanical performance of pre-molded gypsum panels made of recycled gypsum. A compatation with commercial gypsum physical properties and mechanica behavior of pre-molded commercial gypsum panels is also carried out. After collection, recycling and grinding gypsum residues, the quality of the powder produced was evaluated in terms of units of mass and fineness modulus. Additional tests of the dry paste were conducted for assessment of hardness, water absorption, and compressive strength of recycled gypsum. The commercial potential of the material was evaluated by the bending strength testing pre-molded panels. The results demonstrate that gypsum recycling is sustainable, ecologically correct and feasible for the production of pre-molded elements with great potential use in civil construction. Keywords: gypsum panels, mixed pastes, sustainable, gypsum pastes.

Abstract:
Cinderella’s story endures through countless adaptations. In this study, I analyzed the tropes of the patiently suffering heroine, the cruel stepmother, magical help, beauty as female currency, and being chosen by the prince in Cendrillon (Perrault, 1697), Mechanica (Cornwell, 2015), and Cinder (Meyer, 2012). The (re)visions deconstruct binary gender roles through heroines who liberate themselves from their servitude, prioritize independence over marriage, and experience supportive female relationships. The portrayals of the cruel stepmothers disrupt the trope of powerful women as inherently evil, and the storylines critique the injustices of Othering. These (re)visions reflect contemporary discourses that expand expressions of femininity.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to determine the optimal geometrical features of a microdrill with the diameter of 0.11 mm. The optimal geometrical dominant features of a micro-drill have been determined by carrying out the optimization stress/displacement analysis of the Pro/Mechanica software so that the maximum stress von Mises of the micro-drill was minimal. Based on the verification of the drilling test, the mean total hits to breakage of the micro-drills, fabricated with the determined optimal geometrical features, was 16% more than that of the micro-drills fabricated with the original geometric parameters.

Abstract:
Silicon carbide (SiC) is a high band-gap semiconductor material, which has very important and interesting characteristics for novel semiconductor applications. We have studied the cubic (3C) and hexagonal (2H) polytypes of this important material. For the band structure calculations of these polytypes, the density functional and total-energy technique have been applied in the generalized gradient approximation, which is the most powerful ab initio quantum-mechanica method. The important energy gaps have been determined and compared with the previous theoretical and experimental results. The density of state, charge density and bulk modulus have also been calculated.

Abstract:
In this paper, finite-element analysis (FEA) is carried out on the temperature field and stress field of automobile engine piston, as well as the thermal-mechanical load coupling stress field. Through the analysis, the authors grasped the thermal load and combined stress distribution of the piston, and thus optimized the piston design to improve its operational reliability. Specifically, a 1/4 solid model of the piston was constructed in the three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) software Pro/ENGINEER, and then converted into a finite-element model in Pro/Mechanica. Then, an alternating load was imposed on the piston model, and fatigue analysis was performed to identify the parts of the piston prone to fatigue failure, and judge whether the piston structure satisfies working requirements. Next, temperature field analysis was carried out on the piston model. The distribution of the steady-state temperature field as determined by applying temperatures and heat transfer coefficients as required by the boundary conditions of the third kind. Finally, the piston model was subject to thermal-mechanical coupling analysis. The stress and deformation distributions of the piston under the coupled stress field were ascertained under the boundary conditions of temperature field distribution and mechanical load. Through the above work, the authors obtained the basis for safety evaluation of piston, laying the foundation for further reducing the thermal load and optimizing the stress distribution of piston.

Abstract:
The paper aims to investigate the behavior of Arboblend V2 Nature biopolymer samples covered with three ceramic powders, Amdry 6420 (Cr2O3), Metco 143 (ZrO2 18TiO2 10Y2O3) and Metco 136F (Cr2O3-xSiO2-yTiO2). The coated samples were obtained by injection molding, and the micropowder deposition was achieved by using the Atmospheric Plasma Spray (APS) method, with varied thickness layers. The present study will describe the results for nine, seven and five-layer deposition. It was observed that with the increase of the number of deposited layers the surface quality and mechanical/thermal characteristics such as wear and hardness are also increased. The followed determinations were conducted: the adhesion strength and hardness on a microscopic scale by micro-indentation. The samples’ crystalline structure as well as the presence of the Cr2O3 compound significantly influenced the micro-indentation and scratch analysis responses. The novelty of this study is given by itself the coating of the Arboblend V2 Nature biopolymer (as base material), with ceramic microparticles as the micropowder coating material. Following the under-taken study, the increase in the mechanica and tribological characteristics of the samples recommend all three coated biopolymer samples as suitable for operating in harsh conditions, such as the automotive industry, in order to replace plastic materials.
