For many materials and components like in high speed trains and airplanes fatigue failures occur in the range of over 107 load cycles which is called the high cycle fatigue range. A modern version of the springs was invented which are applied in a certain application. Ultrasonic fatigue testing (20 kHz machine) was conducted for evaluating the steel of the springs. This study addresses the fatigue life of the head–to–skirt welds of tall distillation columns. Fatigue tests were done on two types of weld geometries which approximate the head–toskirt configurations. From the fatigue tests it was determined that the fatigue life of the experimental samples can be substantially improved by applying weld build–up between the head and the skirt. Abstract:

This master thesis deals primarily with the prediction of fatigue life of welded ribbed shaft. Recommendations taken from the International Institute of Welding (IIW) are used to express the stress values and the fatigue life. The stress values of examined place are expressed by approach of nominal stress, structural hot spot stress and effective notch stress. Results from stress-strain analysis are combined together with fatigue strength curves for prediction of the fatigue life. At the end of the analysis, the predicted fatigue life is compared with design life of welded ribbed shaft.

A series of laboratory accelerated immersion tests are used to examine the effects of different chemicals found in municipal solid waste leachate, geomembrane thickness, and incubation temperatures on the degradation of different high density polyethylene geomembranes. It was found that surfactant was the key leachate constituent affecting antioxidant depletion while salts accelerated degradation of the mechanical properties, especially stress crack resistance.
