Teaching and learning pragmatic knowledge is important yet challenging since it is less visible. This paper mainly reviews what challenges both teachers and language learners would face from four perspectives when teaching and learning pragmatics, including EFL classroom context, EFL teachers, and teaching materials. This paper would further review the teaching implications of how to deal with these challenges to help learners develop their pragmatic competence. The aim of this paper is to have a complete understanding of improving EFL learners’ pragmatic ability by reviewing pragmatic knowled

The aims of this paper are to review research literature on the role that the second language (L2) and foreign language (FL) environments actually play in the development of learners’ target language (TL) pragmatic ability, and also to speculate as to the extent to which individual factors can offset the advantages that learners may have by being in the L2 context while they are learning. The paper starts by defining pragmatics and by problematizing this definition. The literature of pragmatics and semantics is replete with contentious perspectives on the connections or “extent of connections” between pragmatics and semantics. Abstract:
In January 2024, a multi-professional Critically Appraised Topic (CAT) group was established to support a rapid review of literature related to Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment (ReSPECT). A CAT group is a community of practice with a common interest to assess what is known/not known on a given topic in clinical practice by assessing the evidence. A rapid review uses all the traditional tools and process expected for any high-quality systematic review (Appendix 1). It is made rapid by limiting the breadth of databases searched, using a very focused literature review que

Abstract:
The primary objectives of project EC-02-13 "Response to Corrosion Interacting with the Longitudinal Seam in Liquid Pipelines" are to clarify what analysis methodologies are appropriate to assess corrosion intersecting a pipeline longitudinal seam weld (LSW) and to develop recommended guidelines to effectively manage these types of features. The overall project scope included execution of destructive testing of corrosion features intersecting an LSW, material property testing of LSWs produced by multiple manufacturing methods, detailed engineering analysis, and a literature review of all past r

Burns, Malcom, and Gavin Nixon. Literature review on analytical methods for the detection of precision bred products. Food Standards Agency, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.46756/sci.fsa.ney927.

Full text
Abstract:
The Genetic Technology (Precision Breeding) Act (England) aims to develop a science-based process for the regulation and authorisation of precision bred organisms (PBOs). PBOs are created by genetic technologies but exhibit changes which could have occurred through traditional processes. This current review, commissioned by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), aims to clarify existing terminologies, explore viable methods for the detection, identification, and quantification of products of precision breeding techniques, address and identify potential solutions to the analytical challenges presente

Full text
Abstract:
Advanced pricing agreements (APAs) aim to prevent transfer pricing (TP) disputes, increase certainty, and ultimately reduce the TP risk. This is achieved through taxpayers and tax authorities agreeing in advance on the criteria for determining the arm’s length pricing of transactions. These agreements are typically valid for several years, assuming that critical assumptions remain unchanged. Interest in APAs has been steadily increasing, seemingly partly due to Action 14 of the Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) project, which recommends the facilitation of effective dispute resolution me
