Abstract During the Black Student Movement of the late 1960s and ‘70s, campus activists organized to demand, among other requests, a racial quota system. In response, university administrators often developed race-neutral scholarship programs and recruitment strategies to enroll more students of color without setting quotas. The quota controversy at the University of Texas at Austin reveals important elements of race-conscious and colorblind admissions programs. After the Afro-Americans for Black Liberation demanded the first quota system in 1969, Black students engaged in a decade-long battle

Determining the class quota at each period of filling out the KRS (Study Plan Card) at the beginning of the semester is often an activity that cannot be determined easily. This is due to several important factors in it, one of the most influential and difficult things is the uncertainty when determining the quota for the number of students who will take the course in question, if later there is an error in predicting the number of students who will take the course, then the class quota that is prepared will certainly be less so that it leads to the disruption of the ongoing Student KRS registr

Abstract:
In this paper, we identify a new class of distributional constraints defined as a union of symmetric M-convex sets, which can represent a variety of real-life constraints in two-sided matching settings. Since M-convexity is not closed under union, a union of symmetric M-convex sets does not belong to this well-behaved class of constraints in general. Thus, developing a fair and strategyproof mechanism that can handle this class is challenging. We present a novel mechanism called Quota Reduction Deferred Acceptance (QRDA), which repeatedly applies the standard DA mechanism by sequentially reduc

There are various group identities, and groups usually give special attention to some characteristic features, as language, race or religion (Cseresnyési 2004). Our central contribution is presenting a new class of algorithms that takes into account the representations of combinations of student types. The algorithms return matchings that are non-wasteful and satisfy fairness for same types. We further prove that the algorithms are strategyproof for the students and yield a

The teaching and learning on Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) is one of the most regulated professions globally. This is due to the specialty of the programme and the relevance of law to all spheres of life and the society. Hence, the upsurge demand of LL.B degree programme globally will subsists. In the UK, the total law student enrolments in 2011 grew from 70,500, to 122,755 by 2019/2020 and in 2020/2021 to 138,080. This paper studies the effects of India’s main school-integration policy—a 25 percent quota in private schools for disadvantaged students, whose fees are reimbursed by the state—on direct beneficiaries. Combining survey and administrative data from the state of Chhattisgarh, with lottery-based allocation of seats in oversubscribed schools, we show that receiving a quota seat makes students more likely to attend a private school (by 24 percentage points). However, within eligible caste groups, quota applicants are drawn disproportionately from more-educated and economically better-off household
