Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most prevalent and deadly forms of cancer. Its high mortality rate is associated with difficulties in early detection, which is crucial to survival. The onset of CRC is marked by macroscopic changes in intestinal tissue, originating from a deviation in the healthy cell dynamics of glands known as the crypts of Lieberkuhn. It is believed that accumulated genetic alterations confer on mutated cells the ability to persist in the crypts, which can lead to the formation of a benign tumour through localised proliferation. What is a niche? ‘Co-evolution and the formation of niches’ explains that the term ‘niche’ is widely used to describe an important part of the hierarchical organization of complex adaptive systems: local use of signals and resources. Using Markov processes, a mathematical theory of niches can be formed that allows for multiple species with interaction networks that involve loops and recirculation. When realistic niches are considered, the diversity of the niche dwellers stands out. We see a complicated recirculation of resources and signals. How did this complex network of interactions evolve?

The nineteenth century was a moment of extraordinary mathematical innovation, witnessing the development of non-Euclidean geometry, the revaluation of symbolic algebra, and the importation of mathematical language into philosophy. All these innovations sprang from a reconception of mathematics as a formal rather than a referential practice—as a means for describing relationships rather than quantities. For Victorian ma

The properties have been used in mathematical models of fluid filled hoses with and without tuners inside in order to calculate pressure ripple in hydraulic circuits and to seek to minimise the associated noise. The material properties are derived from measurements of an impedance matrix relating pressure and axial wall compression to flow and axial wall velocity at each end of the hose.

When exposed to marine environments, the geometries of these faying surfaces and fastener holes inherently aid in the trapping/wicking of the electrolyte into tight crevices typical of these component joining locations. Modern aircraft often involve the coupling of dissimilar metals in these structures. This combination of geometry and materials leads to the potential for a severe localized corrosion. With the advent of cheap and available sensors, there is a need for intelligent sensor selection and placement for various purposes. While previous research was focused on the most efficient sensor networks, we present a new mathematical framework for efficient and resilient sensor network installation. Specifically, in this work we formulate and solve a sensor selection and placement problem when network resilience is also a factor in the optimization problem. Our approach is based on the binary linear programming problem. The generic formulation is probabilistic and applicable to any sensor
