Sustained efforts and investments in different sectors are essential for the overall development of a region. Various studies around the globe underscore the importance of investment in road transport infrastructure in many developing countries to achieve their development targets. The relationship between infrastructure investment and economic growth is often found to be inconsistent. This ambiguity leads to a lack of consensus on an appropriate scale of investment required among the policy makers. One of the main sources of risk on slopes in the road infrastructure is the lack of sufficient technical awareness and creative competence of the specialists involved in the investment process. The impact of these sources can be minimized by implementing an appropriate risk management, prevention and protection system in slope stabilization. This system should ensure continuity of geotechnical judgment during geological survey, analysis, design and construction. Geotechnical risk should be considered as a product of the operation of the road infrastructure safety system. In this regard, it is

When first railway lines were built in Dalmatia before the outbreak of World War I tourism was less important for the region than today. Nowadays, every Saturday during summer time tourists are blocking all major cities in Dalmatia with their cars although a lot of investment has been carried out to upgrade streets to deal with this demand. On the other hand, the railway lines are in a poor condition and still not electrified which requires a change of engine at Ogulin. During summer time state owned passenger companies like HZPP, MAV and ZSSR offer night trains to cover long travel times. Pri

This paper investigates the impact of cross-border road infrastructure on trade and foreign direct investment in the Greater Mekong Subregion using panel data from 1981 to 2003. Empirical analysis based on a gravity-model approach suggests that the development of cross-border road infrastructure has had a positive effect on intra-regional trade in major commodities with its elasticity in the range of 0.6-1.4. When the impact of domestic road infrastructure is assessed separately, it has been associated with increased trade. When cross-border and domestic road infrastructure are considered toge

This paper aims to quantify the distributional effects of the United States–People’s Republic of China trade dispute across different regions in Viet Nam. By utilizing detailed firm-level and customs data, the results show that foreign direct investment (FDI) in Viet Nam is geographically concentrated in the northern, central, and southern regions with well-developed road infrastructure. The findings also highlight the important role played by multinational firms from East Asia and the United States in reshaping Viet Nam’s trade flows in the aftermath of the trade dispute. In this study, the analysis of quantity and quality indicators in the road and rail transport sector shows that the Philippines continues to suffer from inadequate and poor quality road and rail transport infrastructure. In most metrics of comparison with ASEAN neighbors, the Philippines is also behind in improving the quantity and quality of its road and rail transport infrastructure. The assessment of targets and achievements in the Philippine Development Plan, the Public Investment Program, and the expenditure program reveals that many of the targets were unmet. ASEAN’s economic ties with China have proven to be more crisisproof than merchandise trade and direct investment flows with the rest of the world. Before the pandemic, China had continuously increased its share in the economic relations of Southeast Asia, and this trend seems to have continued in the COVID era as well. In 2020 the region’s trade deficit with China decreased, while China’s share in both ASEAN export and import climbed. This paper presents new evidence of the effects of road construction on both domestic and international trade flows in the People’s Republic of China using customs data and information on transport investments in the region. Road construction helped to reduce trade costs significantly from 2000 to 2011. The construction of the Kunming–Bangkok Expressway, in particular, led to local economic growth and higher regional specialization in accordance with comparative advantage, facilitating market integration across borders in the Greater Mekong Subregion.
