Abstract:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the composition of trans fatty acids in the subcutaneous fat of Canadians relative to the composition of dietary sources of trans fatty acids. The fatty acid composition, total trans fatty acid content, and the geometric and positional isomer distribution of unsaturated fatty acids of subcutaneous adipose tissue of Canadians were determined using a combination of capillary gas–liquid chromatography and silver nitrate thin-layer chromatography. The mean total trans fatty acid content was 6.80% at the abdominal site and 5.80% at the lateral thigh site.

Trans unsaturated fatty acids in humans may be originated both from dietary supplementation and from an endogenous free-radical-catalyzed cis−trans isomerization of fatty acid residues in naturally occurring cis lipids. The latter process affords geometrical isomers and the polyunsaturated fatty acid mono-trans isomers were demonstrated to be connected with stress conditions in living organisms. Fatty acids in milk fat have a heterogeneous composition due to differences in chain length, degree of saturation, etc. It has been scientifically proven that long-term consumption of trans-fatty acids causes various diseases of the human body; according to WHO recommendations, their maximum consumption should not exceed 1 % of total energy. Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid essential for humans, must be supplied by diet, mainly from plants. It's a precursor of omega-3 long-chain fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids which are essential for human cardiovascular health. ALA consumption may also reduce the risk of heart disease. The geometric isomers of ALA in humans are derived from consumption of industrially produced partially hydrogenated and deodorized vegetable oils. Abstract:
Partially hydrogenated oils (PHO), the products of incomplete hydrogenation of edible oils with hydrogen gas in the presence of a catalyzer, were originally introduced into food commerce more than a century ago. Over the years, PHOs became the preferred choice for many food applications, as their production techniques and composition were optimized to meet specific technological, and stability demands. Since the beginning of the current century, several countries adopted regulations aimed to curtail the dietary intake of PHOs. To date, no method is available for the detection of PHOs in commer

Abstract:
Lipids compose a small part of buckwheat seed, but they play an important role in the quality of food. The aim of this study was to evaluate the composition and content of fatty acids in different buckwheat flours (raw, roasted, white, black and germinated) and their extruded products. Fatty acids were quantified by gas chromatography according to the BIOR-T-012-131-2011 method. The prevalence of unsaturated fatty acids was determined which varied between 78.7 and 82.0 g 100 g-1 of fat in buckwheat samples. Linoleic and oleic acids were the most abundant unsaturated fatty acids, whereas palmit

Consumption of excess amounts of trans fatty acids (TFA) causes health-related problems. Further, to limit the intake of saturated fatty acids (SFAs), the ratios between SFAs, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) are also introduced in addition to the ratio in between essential fatty acids (EFAs). Eight branded vegetable oils (virgin coconut, palm olein, sunflower, canola, olive, sesame, rice bran, and corn) and oil samples taken from fifth frying cycles of wade, fish, and chicken samples were analyzed for their fatty acid (FA) composition by Gas Chromat

Abstract:
The project investigated the molecular genetic and biochemical basis of pollination-induced senescence of Phalaenopsis flowers. This experimental system offered unique advantages in that senescence is strictly regulated by pollination, providing the basis to experimentally initiate and synchronize senescence in populations of flowers. The postpollination syndrome in the Phalaenopsis orchid system was dissected by investigating the temporal and spatial regulation of ACC synthase gene expression. In the stigma, pollen-borne auxin induces the expression of the auxin-regulated ACC synthase (PS-ACS

Abstract:
Plant species synthesize a multitude of specialized compounds 10 help ward off pests. and these in turn may well serve as an alternative to synthetic pesticides to reduce environmental damage and health risks to humans. The general goal of this research was to perform a genetic and biochemical dissection of the natural-insecticides methylketone pathway that is specific to the glandular trichomes of the wild species of tomato, Solanumhabrochaites f. glabratum (accession PI126449). Previous study conducted by us have demonstrated that these compounds are synthesized de novo as a derivate pathway
