Abstract:
The presence of breast implants limits the amount of tissue that can be visualized on mammography and tomosynthesis. The proper mammographic positioning of the breasts of women with implants requires special training. More tissue can be visualized in women with sub-pectoral implants than in women with sub-glandular implants. Women with implants are recommended to have age-appropriate routine interval screening mammography for detection of cancer. If an implant rupture is suspected, ultrasound and MRI are used as adjunct imaging modalities. This chapter, appearing in the section on breast impla

Abstract:
Around 30% of patients assessed for surgery for the treatment of epilepsy require intracranial electrodes to localize the epileptic focus or to identify functionally relevant cortex. Patients can be very different and the various non-invasive techniques used during presurgical assessment often render conflicting or contradictory results. Deciding the type of electrodes to be used and the sites to be implanted can be puzzling. This chapter describes the electrode types available, their indications, and various implantation strategies. This chapter also summarizes the criteria used to interpret

Abstract:
Although women have many contraceptive options—gels, foams, pills, patches, rings, injections, subdermal implants, intrauterine devices, most with low failure rates and good reversibility—men have only the condom, withdrawal, and vasectomy, all with high failure rates or no guarantee of reversibility. This leaves men with unequal options for reproductive control, yet they may be held responsible for support of a child whether they wanted to reproduce or not. Five types of modern male contraception are now under development: they all raise issues of effectiveness, acceptability, and risk, but w

Abstract:
Endocarditis is a cause of glomerulonephritis. Healthcare interventions (prosthetic valves, indwelling catheters, pacemaker wires) and intravenous drug abuse are presently the most common causes of endocarditis and Staphylococcus aureus is frequently the infecting bacteria. Shunt nephritis is a form of glomerulonephritis associated with infection of ventriculoatrial shunts implanted to relieve hydrocephalus and, typically, are caused by prolonged infections of low-pathogenicity microorganisms. This complication led to the replacement of the technique by ventriculoperitoneal shunts. Deep-seated

Muons, radioactive particles produced in accelerators, have emerged as an important tool to study problems in condensed matter physics and chemistry. Beams of muons with all their spins polarized can be prepared and implanted in various types of sample. The subsequent precession and relaxation of the spins of these particles can used to investigate a variety of static and dynamic effects in a sample and hence to deduce properties concerning magnetism, superconductivity, molecular or chemical dynamics, and many other properties. The technique was originally the preserve of a few specialists loc

Abstract:
Erectile dysfunction, commonly referred to as ED, is the ongoing difficulty in achieving or maintaining an erection suitable for sexual activity. While it can affect men of all ages, it is more commonly seen in those over 40. This article provides a comprehensive overview of ED, offering accurate and practical information to guide men through understanding the condition and the steps they can take for diagnosis and treatment. The article begins by defining erectile dysfunction and its different types, including physical, psychological, and mixed causes. It then outlines a wide range of contrib
