As the evolution of automobile industry, the application of cars has been gradually extensive. Nowadays, automobiles have been an essential part of modern society .The development of car equipments has also been accelerated by the growing popularity of the automobiles. Meanwhile, if these equipments are not regulated rationally, they also rouse extra consumption of power stored in car batteries. GPS system, as an example, causes unnecessary consumption while the automobiles are at rest. As the power loss of automobiles may cause series of dangers, such situation should be avoided. During the revolutionary period of 1974–76, there was vigorous debate in Portugal regarding the role of automobiles in the desired new society. The dispute was reinforced by the first international oil crisis. Strong ideological rhetoric was deployed either to defend the potentially liberating role of the automobile or to condemn its ‘bourgeois' underpinnings. This debate influenced social movements, policies, perceptions and views of social actors, thus contributing to market distortions, a short-lived disappearance of luxury and sports cars and to the creation of new models deemed to be adap

Then it is necessary to establish an optimization model about the type and the number of power station. We also develop the model that the widespread usage of electric saves oil by the way of generating of clean energy instead of traditional energy.

Abstract:
Abstract This chapter focuses on climate countermeasures in the Japanese transport sector. We introduce the Japanese complexed automobile tax system and then calculate the Japanese effective carbon rate (ECR) on automobiles. In addition to the discussion of the ECR, this chapter offers a simple examination of the efficiency of electric vehicles (EVs) from the viewpoint of cost-benefit because it is expected that EVs will become the most popular eco-friendly vehicle in the future. Two remarks are found in our analysis. First, although the carbon tax rate on fuel consumption is small in Japan, compared to the European countries, the ECR is rather high. For further improvement of climate policy, the Japanese government should shift its attention to vehicle usage from vehicle purchase and possession. Second, under the basic assumption (i.e., representative owners do not recharge their EVs at home but at outdoor fast chargers), the diffusion of EVs is not an efficient measure for reducing GHG emissions. If owners recharge their EVs at home once of every two charges, the net benefit becomes positive Therefore, the opportunity cost of waiting for recharges is a key factor in whether EVs can play a role in mitigating climate change.

AbstractInformatics are rapidly and radically transforming urban transportation in ways not seen since the introduction of the automobile over a hundred years ago. Near-ubiquitous smartphone usage, pervasive cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity, powerful and cost-effective computing capabilities, advanced GIS software and databases, advanced platforms for managing and scheduling service operations, etc., are combining to enable the introduction of new mobility services and technologies that are increasingly disrupting conventional trip-making behavior and the “rules of the game” in terms of transportation network operations and the regulation of system performance. The implications of these major informatics-driven changes for transportation modeling are equally disruptive and major. These include changes in: travel behavior; transportation system performance; the data available for model development and application; and modeling methods. Each of these broad areas of impact are discussed in this chapter.

Abstract:
In the last decades, automotive industry has especially focused on developing and applying new materials and technologies for enhancing the comfort and security levels in the vehicles, but on the other hand for reducing the weight of the means of transportation in order to decrease the energy consumption. In this concept, textile-reinforced composite structures come in possession of one of the most favored materials in the automotive industry by satisfying these demands. In this chapter, usage of textile-reinforced composites in the automotive industry has been elucidated under three main sections: textile reinforced composites for 1) automobiles, 2) mass transportation vehicles, and 3) trucks. The aim of this chapter is to discuss the subject in detail by giving technical information about particular vehicle parts and composite structures utilized in the automotive industry and academia.

Abstract:
In this chapter, the author studied about titanium nitride (TiN), titanium carbide (TiC), diamond like carbon (DLC) single and multilayer coatings that utilize in harsh environments. These hard coatings were usually produced by the plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD) method as a modern technique. PACVD is used to deposit thin coatings for different usages such as computer disc drives, automobile and aerospace parts, surgical/medical instruments and the food industry. The author tried to delineate the state of the performance of different coating systems and layer characteristics that suitable either for laboratory -scales or industrial applications. Mechanical features of these coatings contain the hardness, the toughness, the wear resistance and structural properties that were perused. Consequently, this chapter offers a source of information for those who want to familiarize with the knowledge in the area of materials science of functional coatings that was produced by new plasma-based technologies.

The metallic materials such as steel, iron, titanium and nickel alloys etc., are extensively used in the automobile, marine, biomedical, aerospace, chemical industry and power generation sector. However, the poor surface properties restricted their wide usage in many applications. Therefore, the surface properties need to be enhanced through novel treatments without affecting the bulk. In recent years, laser surface modification attracts more due to their inherent properties. The laser based surface altering process is appropriate to modify the metallic surfaces in terms of their flexibility, simple operation and process economy. Laser surface modification includes; surface hardening, melting, alloying, cladding and texturing. Thus, from a process engineering, metallurgical reasons and tribologist view point, the laser surface modification process can be recognized as an important topic.

Abstract:
One measure of the impact of the personal computer is in terms of its time displacement of other activities; mass media generally are considered a prime candidate given the on-line profusion of information and entertainment services. This article compares the daily mass media habits and other leisure activities of heavy, light and non users of personal computers and on-line services based on 1994-95 and 1997 national surveys. No significant or consistent evidence of time displacement of mass media was found. Indeed, heavier computer usage was associated with significantly greater use of print media and other cultural uses of free time, even after multivariate adjustment. It was concluded that at this early stage of diffusion, personal computers may have more in common with “time enhancing” home appliances (like the telephone, automobile and washing machine) than with television. Nonetheless, more complete time-diary studies are needed to identify the full temporal effects of the personal computer, much as they did for television.

In this article, two formulations implemented in Matlab™ for the dynamic simulation of multibody systems are described. The developed framework allows a rapid development of programs and a clean implementation of algorithms, offering many aids to make the data pre and post-process. However, Matlab is not efficient at all when working with small matrices, as happens with multibody systems. This work describes a global formulation and a topologic (semi-recursive) formulation. Both are applied to two real, medium-large cases: an automobile and a semi-trailer truck. In both cases the pure Matlab r

Abstract Absence of any tribological considerations in design can lead to quality and durability problems in automobile engines, which arc unearthed only during the testing phase of an engine. The usage of an overall engine friction model in conjunction with robust design techniques facilitates the concurrent design of engine components with tribological considerations. The case study under investigation involves developing robust top-level design specifications with tribological considerations for principal lubricated components in an automobile engine. Abstract:
Nowadays electric motors are used for various applications in the automotive industry which affects the automobiles’ mass significantly. Small and medium sized electromotors are mainly used for comfort applications like locking systems or mirror folding drives. On the other hand, electromotor drives use often a reduction of a high speed rotation to a slow and powerful movement by the usage of gears. Due to the multistage gear ratio principle, such drives emit a noise level up which can be an inferiority attribute of an automotive system. Nevertheless, comfort applications are mainly driven by
