Background: On chronic exposure, Lead (Pb) deposits in the skeletal system, replaces calcium ions, and alters the normal physiological processes, which in turn, lead to stunting, delayed fracture healing, and high resorption of collagen molecules. The present study aimed to assess the association of musculoskeletal pain and discomfort with bone turnover markers (BTMs) among long-term Pb-exposed workers. Study design: A cross-sectional study. Methods: The study recruited 176 male Pb-exposed workers and 80 control subjects who were matched for age, gender, and socio-economic status. Blood lead l

The hypoestrogenic state induced by gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) has been shown to be effective in the treatment of oestrogen-dependent disorders but to induce bone loss. Adding back low doses of oestrogen in GnRHa therapy has been proposed to prevent bone loss. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of add-back therapy with different natural oestrogens such as oestrone (OE(1)), oestradiol (OE(2)) and oestriol (OE(3)). A new route for sequencing complex macromolecules such as polysaccharides, RNA and DNA, which offers a quicker, cheaper and more reliable method than the existing methods, has been long desired. This has been achieved using an atomic force microscopy (AFM) to identify the position of an "aromatic bead" on a poly(ethylene oxide). These studies comprised three key areas, synthesis of the string-bead polymer model, the molecular recognition of host-guest system and a computational study of the dethreading process.

Abstract Fiberglass reinforced plastics (FRP) equipment is fabricated by applying layers to build up the required thickness. Due to time and exothermic constraints, thickness may need to be built up in thinner increments with the first increment being allowed to cure before the next increment is applied. The interface between these two increments of thickness is called a secondary bond. This secondary bond is relatively strong when a design load is applied parallel to the bond area (lap shear), but is relatively weak when applied perpendicular to the edge of the bond area (peel). Abstract:
Osteoporosis is a skeletal disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue. It affects 15–20 million women in the United States. Fractures of the vertebrae, wrist and hip are the most common. [1] In the spine, osteoporosis greatly affects the bone mass of the vertebral bodies (VB), the primary structures for transmitting loads in the spine. The VB is comprised of a shell of dense bone surrounding a more porous bony tissue called trabecular bone. Trabecular bone is a lattice-like network of trabeculae in the shape of plates or rods, depending on orientation and one’s age

The model replicates the stylized facts following a drop in world interest rates; in particular, rebalancing towards bonds occurs because bank credit becomes relatively more expensive, reflecting the scarcity of bank equity.
