Abstract:
The regulation of rat aorta vascular tone involves various factors, including endothelium-derived hyperpolarization factor (EDHF), nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandins, and sensory nerves. While these elements can function independently, their pathways intersect at various points, complicating the assessment of their individual contributions. The aim of this study was to establish the numerical contributions of EDHF, NO, prostaglandins, and also the effect of the sensory nerve on acetylcholine-induced relaxation on the background of phenylephrine preconstriction using contraction and relaxation m

In the gastrointestinal tract, interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) act as pacemaker cells to generate slow wave activity. Interstitial cells that resemble ICCs in the gastrointestinal tract have been identified by their morphological characteristics in the bladder. KIT is used as an identification marker of ICCs. ICCs in the bladder may be involved in signal transmission between smooth muscle bundles, from efferent nerves to smooth muscles, and from the urothelium to afferent nerves. Abstract In this study, effects of the long-acting amide-type local anesthetic levobupivacaine on axonal conduction and excitability parameters of the rat sciatic nerve were thoroughly examined both in vitro and in vivo. In order to deduce its effects on isolated nerve conduction, compound nerve action potential (CNAP) recordings were performed using the suction method over sciatic nerves of Wistar rats before and after administration of 0.05 % (1.7 mmol L−1) levobupivacaine. Levobupivacaine caused complete CNAP area and amplitude depression by blocking conduction in a time-dependent manner. T

Stroke is a disease caused by a blockage in the blood vessels. This blockage disrupts the circulation of blood and oxygen pumped by the heart to the brain, causing the brain to lack nutrients and affecting brain function, causing parts of the body controlled by the brain, such as the face, hands, and feet, to fail or even become disabled. After dendrite transection, two primary injury current pathways may acount for cell death: (1) the lesion current at the site of injury and (2) the voltage sensitive calcium channels along the dendrite. Lesions were made with a laser microbeam in mouse spinal monolayer cell cultures. Polylysine was tried as a positively charged "molecular bandage" to block the lesion current. The calcium channel blockers, verapamil and nifedipine, were used to reduce the calcium channel current. Control toxicity curves were obtained for all three compounds. GABAA receptor binding is transiently increased in rat whisker barrels during the second postnatal week, at a time when neurons in the developing rat cortex are vulnerable to excitotoxic effects. To test whether these GABAA receptors might serve to protect neurons from excessive excitatory input, polymer implants containing the GABAA receptor antagonist bicuculline were placed over barrel cortex for a 4-day period in young (postnatal days 8 - 12) and adult rats. In the cortex of young, but not adult rats, the chronic blockade of GABAA receptors resulted in substantial tissue loss and neuron

Context: Occipital neuralgia is characterized as uni or bilateral pain in the topography of the occipital nerve. The condition may be harrowing or acute and worsens with digital pressure on the back of the neck. The pain appears in the distribution of the greater (GON), minor (LON), and third (TON) occipital nerves. Besides that, it may radiate to the retro-orbital region and angle of the mandible, and it can be associated with paresthesias. A less common cause is direct head trauma, and it is believed that the mechanism for its development is the injury or entrapment of the nerve fibers due t
