Abstract:
Purchasing goods with cash on delivery (COD) payment method is a service presented by Shopee to make it easier for buyers who don’t have mobile or internet banking. The buyer pays for the goods when the goods have arrived at the delivery address delivered by the expedition service courier. However, some shoppers vented their disquire to the couriers of the expedition service when the goods they received did not match what they ordered through the Shopee app. Informants in the study suggested that their perception of the quality of information Shopee provides related to COD is still inaccurate, not yet timely, not yet relevant and incomplete. Shopee is considered to still focus on favorable information, not information that educates buyers related to COD. Information that is not received by the buyer can trigger disappointed buyers to vent to the courier expedisi service. Shopee is advised to create information in the form of interesting visualizations, not with long sentences so that it is easy to understand. Information is placed on the display menu that is easily seen by the buyer as on the main page or the information appears when the buyer will check out the item. Good information can prevent disappointed buyers from doing acidification or violence to couriers.

Abstract:
Selling or trading in the industrial 4.0 era as it can now be done by opening a shop online. Therefore, shopping at this time can also be done online also, so that the online shop owners require orders that do not allow for Cash On Delivery (COD) transactions using package delivery services. This research discusses about finding a solution for good shipping with a minimum total mileage of several couriers at PT. Titipan Kilat District Banyuwangi uses AFSA as a settlement algorithm. The experimental process is carried out by using several parameter values to determine the parameters that affect the final solution. Each parameter will be tested with a maximum of 1000 iterations, then the best results will be tested again with a maximum iteration of 2000, and 5000 and will be compared with the original distance traveled by the couriers. The final solution offered in the form of a delivery route by three couriers with the total distance (Z) of the third courier is 87.28 Km with the smallest iteration value reaching the local minimum in iteration 1169. Keywords: artificial fish swarm algorithm (afsa), multiple travelling salesman problem (m-tsp), route, total mileage.

Abstract:
Courier employees in an expedition company are an important asset for the company. Each Courier has a daily productivity performance to aim with a perfect score (100%) to gain a reward. However, an assessment based only on productivity performance cause problems, where it is impossible to achieve a perfect productivity score to get a reward. This research focus to improve the rewarding system using a decision support system by adding other aspects than productivity which is the behavioral aspect. Absentee, successful delivery, cash on delivery, status update, attendance, and lateness are the behavioral aspect criteria used. Profile Matching method is conducted to compare employee profiles with the standard values and calculate its GAP. The smaller the GAP, the greater the weight results for the best alternative solution. The results, from 150 employees, 5 employees were selected as the best employees and granted rewards with the highest position scored 4,733, second scored 4,725, third scored 4,7234, fourth scored 4,722, and fifth scored 4,721. Profile matching has proven to be excellent as a method for a decision support system to reward employees based on ranking.

Abstract:
The article studies the development of crowd shipping technologies in the Old Town of Bratislava. The paper aims to assess the potential for implementation of the crowdsourcing technology in the transport system of Bratislava. Methodology: An interview with the entrepreneurs in this area was conducted to assess the potential demand. In the survey, we collected information about type of goods; operations, quantities, and frequency of delivery; willingness to pay for one delivery among others. Based on the results, the freight demand, and its characteristics were assessed. The second part of the paper is devoted to assessing the supply of logistics to meet the demand. A survey of the willingness of ordinary travelers to work as an occasional courier was conducted. In the end, the equilibrium of demand and supply in the crowd shipping market in Bratislava is presented. The regression and correlation analysis were performed to understand the relationship between parameters of demand and delivery quantities in the first part of the research, sociodemographic characteristics of nonprofessional couriers, and the maximum weight of the parcel nonprofessional couriers agree to delivery. The willingness to pay per delivery was determined for respondents of different genders. Key findings: The results of the survey allowed us to estimate the freight demand for the Old Town of Bratislava, as well as to understand the needs of potential demand for crowd shipping services. The results of the second questionnaire show the sociodemographic characteristics of nonprofessional couriers (age, gender, gender, income, travel time) significantly influence the decision to participate in the delivery market.

Abstract:
Living within internet become easier, back to 90 or earlier when need something we have to go shop to buy something we needed. But now these days, we just picked the phone make a phone call to shop and make an order. Just couple hours the product we are needed just arrived right front our house, pick the product and pay the cash. Everything become very simple. Internet era make us to redefinition of Business Process of sales. Back to earlier, the buyer and the sales have to meet make transaction. But they don’t have to meet again, and the matter fact, they don’t know to each other completely. Now the transaction support by internet and bank, they make this impossible. Internet make people (buyer and sales) meet in web world, the make transaction. And finally the buyer pay the price via bank and again the buyer pay the price via internet through the bank. And the sales after received confirmation from the bank, they right the way to pack the package and delivery the package from courier service. Data of year 2013-2013 average increment of direct sales only grows amount 9.9% and increment of sales online grows up to 59.9. it seem increment of sales of online very massive in period year 2013 up to 2017, and the number sales of online almost half of direct sales i.e. 2019 T and sales of online i.e 108 T. With regression coefficient formula look relationship direct sales with increment of Indonesia’s growth economy i.e. 0.212% and sales online growth i.e. 0.223% , it means both sales online and direct sales have one direction refer to Indonesia’s economy growth, only sales online has stronger relationship i.e. 0.223% and gap 0.011% compare to direct sales.

Abstract:
Abstract This study performs a detailed examination of the provisions of Article 81 of Law no. 272/2004 for protection and promotion of childrenʼs rights, text of law according to which “No child shall be used a spy, guide or courier during armed conflicts”. Derived from the three fundamental human rights – the right of life, the right to physical integrity and the right to mental integrity, the legal interdiction of using children during armed conflicts as spies, guides or couriers, appears as a real instrument for protection and guarantee of minorsʼ rights, in correlation with their sheltering against the hostilities generated in conflict environments, by avoiding their use as human pawns in the theatres of operations. The lot of substantial information of the study has the vocation to transmit a firm message – to protect the children in case of war and to respect the standards of conduct in armed conflicts.

Abstract:
This study aims to find out the legal position of the couriers in online shopping activities, especially in the payment method of COD (Cash on Delivery); the legal protection that can be given to the COD couriers; and the legal protection for the couriers who encounter buyers who default and refuse the goods they ordered. The method used in this research is the normative juridical method by examining library materials or secondary data sources, namely laws and regulations, books, and legal studies. Based on this method, the research was conducted using a statutory approach and a case approach. The results show that the legal position of the couriers in the online shopping with COD method of payment is as a recipient of a deposit, as a person who represents a freight forwarder in carrying out the power of attorney from the seller, and as a recipient of payment from the buyer. The legal protection that can be given to the couriers is ensuring that the couriers are not responsible for any discrepancy or damage to goods that are not caused by his mistake or negligence.

Antoniuk, Yaroslav M. "“Dobosh Case”: the Biggest Failure of ZCH OUN Security Services in Resistance to KGB Apparatus." SUMY HISTORICAL AND ARCHIVAL JOURNAL, no. 32 (2019): 20–26. http://dx.doi.org/10.21272/shaj.2019.i32.p.20.

Full text
Abstract:
The article carries out a research on circumstances of the arrest of Yaroslav Dobosh, who was a courier of the OUN Foreign cells (hereafter – ZCh), by the KGB authorities, using the documents of the Branch State Archive of the Security Service of Ukraine as its basis. It was indicated that the mentioned arrest had a significant influence on the dissident movement in Soviet Ukraine. It was proven that the KGB bodies used the “Dobosh case” to launch their massive repressions against the anti-Soviet intelligentsia (“Block” operation), and also to undermine the OUN’s credibility among the Ukrainian diaspora environment in the Western countries. The consequences of that event were reflected in the development of the entire Ukrainian national liberation movement of the 1970s. After analyzing the personality of Yaroslav Dobosh, we discovered that he had been raised in a nationally conscious and religious environment of the Ukrainian diaspora of Belgium. From his early years he joined the Ukrainian Youth Association and agreed to conduct a dangerous mission in Ukraine solely because of his convictions. During that period the OUN Foreign cells had been trying to establish connections with the dissident movement in Ukraine and support it. The tourism was one of the most effective ways of bringing couriers to the Soviet Union. The KGB bodies regularly arrested those couriers. Nevertheless, there was no better communication means between the ZCh OUN and the dissidents. Yaroslav Dobosh had walked into a trap, previously prepared and set by the KGB employees, that was a reason why he failed to spot any danger and was arrested. During interrogations, he revealed his connections with the dissidents in Kyiv and Lviv – Zinovia Franko, Ivan Svitlychnyi, Leonid Selezenko and Stephania Gulyk. In addition to that, he agreed to publicly make a repentance. After that Yaroslav Dobosh was allowed to return home. In Belgium he immediately abandoned his testimonies and claimed that he had been forced and pressed to come out with a speech. However, those statements were of no importance. The KGB organs actively used Dobosh image as a proof of the dissidents cooperation with the Western intelligence services. Emphasizing the failure of the ZCh OUN operation, they launched a campaign to combat “Ukrainian bourgeois nationalism” in Western Ukraine and made provocations to intensify disputes in the anti-Soviet camps of the Ukrainian diaspora. Keywords: dissidents, KGB, ZCh OUN, UYA, Belgium, “Dobosh case”, repressions, ”Block” operation, Kyiv, Lviv, Soviet, diaspora.

Abstract:
Using a phenomenological approach, this qualitative study examined the perspectives of Latino parents and their involvement in the decision of their child to enroll in an advanced mathematics course in sixth grade. Since enrollment in Algebra I in high school is said to be a strong predictor of college attainment and with the growing number of Latino students across the nation, this study has the potential to help district and campus leaders establish whole-school systems for communicating with Latino parents to encourage their children to enroll in advanced mathematics courses at earlier grades. Participants in this study included four sixth-grade students enrolled in an advanced mathematics course, four enrolled in regular mathematics, their mother or father, two mathematics teachers, a school counselor, and two district administrators. Data analyzed included audio recordings of semi-structured interviews of each of the participants. The findings suggested that the district has proactively developed a systematic process of creating that includes six data points to create a student profile of students that will do well in advanced mathematics. This process is helping the district close the gap between total Latino school enrollment and the enrollment of Latino students in advanced mathematics. The findings also suggested that specific communication with parents about the importance of enrollment trajectories might influence the enrollment of students into advanced mathematics courses at earlier grades.

Abstract:
The present study evaluates the language improvement courses in the undergraduate curriculum of the Department of English Language Teaching (ELT) at Eastern Mediterranean University. The language improvement courses are: Oral Communication Skills I and II, Reading Skills I, II, and Advanced Reading Skills, Writing Skills I, II and Advanced Writing Skills, and English Grammar I and II. In this evaluation study, the adapted version of Bellon and Handler&rsquo<br>s (1982) curriculum evaluation model was employed. The participants of the study were six instructors teaching the language improvement courses and students enrolled in these courses. The data, both qualitative and quantitative, were collected through course evaluation questionnaires for students, interviews with students and teachers, classroom observations, and examination of relevant written documents such as course policy sheets, course materials, and assessment tools used in the courses. The results of the study show that generally the language improvement courses were effective in terms of five aspects specified in the evaluation model employed in the study, as perceived by the students and the instructors. However, the students and the instructors suggested making some changes to the existing language improvement courses to make them more effective and better adjusted to the students&rsquo<br>needs and expectations. Some important conclusions drawn and recommendations made were: Practice (i.e. practice and production) component in the language improvement courses should be enhanced, a wider variety of authentic materials should be used in the courses, various methods and activities should be utilized in teaching-learning process, and intra-subject and inter-subject relationships (i.e. continuity and coherence) between or among the courses need to be strengthened.

Qu, Rong. "Case-based reasoning for course timetabling problems." Thesis, University of Nottingham, 2002. http://eprints.nottingham.ac.uk/10020/.

Full text
Abstract:
The research in this thesis investigates Case-Based Reasoning (CBR), a Knowledge-Based Reasoning technique that proved to be capable of providing good solutions in educational course timetabling problems. Following the basic idea behind CBR, experiences in solving previous similar timetabling problems are employed to find the solutions for new problems. A basic CBR system that is hierarchically organized with structured knowledge representations by attribute graphs is proposed in Chapter Four. The system is then further improved to solve a wider range of problems, which is described in Chapter Five. Evaluations on a large number of experiments indicate that this approach could provide a significant step forward in timetabling and scheduling research. This basic system works well on relatively small problems. To deal with this drawback a multiple-retrieval approach that partitions large timetabling problems into small solvable sub-problems is presented in Chapter Six. Good results are obtained from a wide range of experiments. In Chapter Seven, a new idea is introduced in CBR for solving timetabling problems by investigating the approach to select the most appropriate heuristic method rather than to employ it directly on the problem, in the attempt to raise the level of generality at which we can operate. All the evidence obtained from the first stage experiments indicates that there is a range of promising future directions. Finally in Chapter Eight the results of the work are evaluated and some directions for future work are present.

Westerband, Alexandra. "Flipping the College Course: A Case Study." Thesis, The University of Arizona, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/595057.

Full text
Abstract:
A Family Studies & Human Development (FSHD) 377 Adolescence course was flipped for the first time in the Spring 2015 semester with the goal of attaining better student learning experiences, learning outcomes, as well as peer dynamics. Flipping was done based on the Team-Based Learning approach. Seventy-nine students were enrolled. Assigned individual student work was completed outside of class. Students met in class, once a week, with their 3-4 person teams. Class generally followed this pattern: time for questions or mini lecture (when time allowed), individual post-test, group post-test, and an in-class activity. Other assignments included a group movie paper and weekly online discussion posts. The final section of the course featured guest lecturers focusing on psychosocial issues in adolescence. Students were surveyed at four times throughout the semester. In general, flipping seems to have included more perceived negatives than benefits. As expected, it was met with much student resistance. This included a lack of individual preparation, poor "student buy-in", and a great student preference for lecture. Student final course grades for Spring 2015 (flipped course) were higher, on average, than those of Spring 2014 (traditional lecture). The four questionnaires and coding of results are included in the appendices.

Abstract:
Asynchronous web based instruction, more commonly known as online education or distance learning, has been available for some time. This technology has brought education within the reach of many who would otherwise be unable to attend live classes. Time schedules and distance no longer have a bearing on attending a course. Even group projects are manageable with email and discussion groups. Many courses convert quite well to the online format, and studies have shown that students can learn as much from online courses as from live courses. In many cases, multiple course certificate programs and even some complete degree programs are offered online. As inviting as online courses may be, they do have their limitations, especially classes with a laboratory component. A number of institutions have offered laboratory-based classes in an online format with varying degrees of complexity and success. In some cases, students travel to the institution a limited number of times for extensive laboratory experiences while other institutions use what might best be described as virtual reality based systems. This paper discusses Purdue University Calumet’s first laboratory-based online course, MFET 275, Computer Numerical Control Programming Application. Abstract:
The library and information science discipline in the United States has thoroughly embraced distance education to deliver its courses and other curricular offerings. Courses have been or are offered through a variety of mechanisms, some with deep historical roots, others are dependent upon new and emerging Internet technologies. Different distance education methods offer different opportunities but also diffe rent problems. This paper discusses the approach taken at one university - asynchronous Web course delivery - and the lessons we have learned from those experiences. Given our circumstances and opportunities, we have at times adopted alternatives to technological solutions, including hybrid courses and cross-listing of courses at sister institutions to meet student needs.

Abstract:
In recent years, online learning modules and interactive tools have been developed for integrating synergistic computational and experimental activities into several courses in the mechanical and manufacturing engineering curriculum. These modules may complement existing labs, introduce experiments to lecture-based courses, or help reinforce the understanding of concepts within a course through case studies, computational modeling and its validation through experimental data analysis. Within a given undergraduate course in engineering, the traditional approach is to cover the fundamental concepts and their applications in problem solving and design. However, often some advanced concepts pertinent to the course material cannot be included in great details due to the restrictions on total number of credit/teaching hours. The exposure to such advanced material is considered very important for establishing a broader appreciation of the relevance of the course material and potentially instilling an interest in successive classes and, most importantly, research projects. The project described in this paper has focused in the development of learning modules which can be used in various courses to introduce advanced topics, analyses and applications related to the fundamental course content. In this paper the development, implementation and assessment of two modules which feature enhanced content is presented. One module has been designed to be used as a tutorial on rotor dynamics and has been embedded in an introductory course on mechanical vibrations. The second is a module being developed for introducing the static and dynamic characterization of viscoelastic polymers. This module will be associated with an advanced mechanics of materials course, as well as the course on vibrations. These two separate concepts/topics are not formally a part of the undergraduate level courses but the underlying concepts can be easily related to the associated course learning outcomes. Such modules can, furthermore, be modified and used with various other courses as assignments and/or as a pre-requisite to a given case study. These modules can also be used for training and support of undergraduate researchers.

Abstract:
It is a recognised fact that university courses, especially those dealing with issues of quantitative literacy, can benefit enormously from exploitation of modern information and telecommunications technology (ITT). The use of ITT is advantageous both in the teaching process and in the process of internal course administration, enabling a simplified access to course materials, a steady electronic communication flow between lecturers and students, etc. Using the course on Business Statistics taught at the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Economics to second year students of business as an illustrative example, the paper focuses on discussion of student acceptance of ITT-supported teaching and internal course administration. In this framework, differences in characteristics of students more respectively less inclined to accept ITT-supported teaching and internal course administration are explored in detail with the help of multivariate data analysis.

Full text
Abstract:
The author developed and taught the second hands-on graduate course in a series of three Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing (EFM) courses offered at the Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering and Technology (MMET) Masters Program at the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT), Portland Center. Courses in this series include Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing (ECM-1), Lean Manufacturing (LM) emphasizing Green and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Emission Control in Manufacturing (ECM-II). The first two-thirds of the course curriculum consisted of regular classroom lectures, limited homework, two case studies, discussions, videos, and visits to two companies that were implementing or had implemented LM. In addition, a guest lecturer from Washington State Department of Ecology discussed relevant LM and environmental case studies. The final third of the course curriculum consisted of hands-on industry-based case studies. Students gained real-world experience in the manufacturing facilities of the four companies that elected to participate in the pilot project. The LM course, taught from an engineer’s point of view, emphasized the engineer’s role at the initial product design stage, and or manufacturing process design, including building design. This paper describes the course content of the LM curriculum, the innovative methods developed to teach the course, and the methods used to teach LM to graduate students with different undergraduate educational backgrounds including individuals with no prior industrial experience. It discusses three industry-based case studies, company profiles, and the benefits derived by participating companies and graduate students. Curriculum effectiveness was determined at the end of the course in part through students’ and industry participant’s comments. Future publication will describe the contents and case studies of the third ECM II in the EFM course curricula.

Abstract:
Curriculum analysis is a core component of curriculum renewal. Traditional approaches to curriculum analysis are manual, slow and subjective, but some studies have suggested that text analysis might usefully be employed for exploration of curriculum. This concise paper outlines a pilot use case of content analytics to support curriculum review and analysis. I have co-opted Quantext – a relatively user-friendly text analysis tool designed to help educators explore student writing – for analysis of the text content of the 17 courses in our online master’s program. Quantext computed descriptive metrics and readability indices for each course and identified top keywords and ngrams per course. Compilation and comparison of these revealed frequent curricular topics and networks of thematic relationships between courses, in ways that both individual educators and curriculum committees can interpret and use for decision-making. Future Quantext features will allow even more sophisticated identification of curricular gaps and redundancies.

Abstract:
In many project-based mechatronic courses, the project is either a tangential part of the course or a kit is given to the students (e.g. parts of a mobile base for a robot) which they then assemble and modify as necessary. In contrast to these typical approaches, we present the design of a mechatronics course wherein the semester project pre-determines the various lab activities, which then define the ordering and content of the classroom lectures. As such, the project is the core focus of the course, and the supplied components are kept to a minimum in order to maximize the solution space and student creativity. Putting such a strong emphasis on the project requires that significant effort is invested early to select a suitable project for the semester, but once that choice is made, the remainder of the content essentially fills in automatically. In addition to the case study, we present more general rules and context which can be helpful in choosing a project and fostering a strong peer-assisted learning culture.

Mayfield, Colin. Capacity Development in the Water Sector: the case of Massive Open On-line Courses. United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.53328/mwud6984.

Full text
Abstract:
The Sustainable Development Goal 6 targets are all dependent on capacity development as outlined in SDG 6a “Expand international cooperation and capacity-building support to developing countries in water- and sanitation related activities and programmes “. Massive Open On-line Courses (MOOCs) and distance learning in general have a significant role to play in this expansion. This report examines the role that MOOCs and similar courses could play in capacity development in the water sector. The appearance of MOOCs in 2010/11 led within 4 years to a huge increase in this type of course and in student enrollment. Some problems with student dropout rates, over-estimating the transformational and disruptive nature of MOOCs and uncertain business models remain, but less “massive” MOOCs with more engaged students are overcoming these problems. There are many existing distance learning courses and programmes in the water sector designed to train and/ or educate professionals, operators, graduate and undergraduate students and, to a lesser extent, members of communities dealing with water issues. There are few existing true MOOCs in the water sector. MOOCs could supply significant numbers of qualified practitioners for the water sector. A suite of programmes on water-related topics would allow anyone to try the courses and determine whether they were appropriate and useful. If they were, the students could officially enroll in the course or programme to gain a meaningful qualification or simply to upgrade their qualifications. To make MOOCs more relevant to education and training in the water sector an analysis of the requirements in the sector and the potential demand for such courses is required. Cooperation between institutions preparing MOOCs would be desirable given the substantial time and funding required to produce excellent quality courses. One attractive model for cooperation would be to produce modules on all aspects of water and sanitation dealing with technical, scientific, social, legal and management topics. These should be produced by recognized experts in each field and should be “stand-alone” or complete in themselves. If all modules were made freely available, users or mentors could assemble different MOOCs by linking relevant modules. Then extracts, simplified or less technical versions of the modules could then be used to produce presentations to encourage public participation and for other training purposes. Adaptive learning, where course materials are more tailored to individual students based on their test results and reactions to the material, can be an integral part of MOOCs. MOOCs efficiently provide access to quality courses at low or no cost to students around the world, they enable students to try courses at their convenience, they can be tailored to both professional and technical aspects, and they are very suitable to provide adaptive learning courses. Cooperation between institutions would provide many course modules for the water sector that collectively could provide excellent programmes to address the challenges of capacity development for SDG 6 and other issues within the water sector.

Abstract:
The article deals with the problem of using modeling in social statistics courses. It allows the student-researcher to build one-dimensional and multidimensional models of the phenomena and processes that are being studied. Social Statistics course programs from foreign universities (University of Arkansas; Athabasca University; HSE University, Russia; McMaster University, Canada) are analyzed. The article provides an example using the education data set – Guardian UK universities ranking in Social Statistics course. Examples of research questions are given, data analysis for these questions is performed (correlation, hypothesis testing, discriminant analysis). During the research the discriminant model with group variable – modified Guardian score – and 9 predictors: course satisfaction, teaching quality, feedback, staff-student ratio, money spent on each student and other) was built. Lower student’s satisfaction with feedback was found to be significantly different from the satisfaction with teaching. The article notes the modeling and statistical analysis should be accompanied by a meaningful interpretation of the results. In this example, we discussed the essence of university ratings, the purpose of Guardian rating, the operationalization and measurement of such concepts as satisfaction with teaching, feedback; ways to use statistics in education, data sources etc. with students. Ways of using this education data in group and individual work of students are suggested.
