Aim. To analyse an epidemic process of community-acquired mycoplasma pneumonia in the Volga Federal District and the Nizhny Novgorod Region.Materials and Methods. We retrospectively analysed statistical reporting forms and electronic databases for 2012-2019 which included 443 cases of community-acquired mycoplasma pneumonia (349 foci and 4 outbreaks). In 2020, we assessed aetiology of community-acquired pneumonia in hospitalized patients of all ages who were diagnosed with a radiologically confirmed pneumonia (152 cases). In 2021, we carried out a microbiological study of pneumonia-causing pat

Conjugate pneumococcal vaccines have been licenced for use in Australia since Dec 2000, became available around June 2001 and marketed towards the end of 2001. Its widespread use has however been limited by lack of affordability, not being part of the routine childhood vaccination schedule. In order to assess the potential benefits of the widespread use of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines in Australia, reliable estimates of the incidence of pneumococcal disease are required. The main manifestations are bacteraemia, pneumonia and otitis media. Pneumococcal bacteraemia, diagnosed on the ba

The diseases of the respiratory system occupy the first position which constitutes nearly 62-65 % in the structure of child morbidity. Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is one of the most common diseases of modern society. Cytokines play a central role in inflammatory response that is a basis for further immune response. Our aim was to study the effect of synbiotics on pro- and anti-inflammatory serum cytokines (IL-8 and IL-4) concentrations in pre-preschool children with CAP.

An important physiological role in the body of the child has a normal intestinal micro flora, which in connection with person’s microorganism is regarded as a kind of extracorporeal organ. According to several authors, 88.6 % of children with acute respiratory diseases reveal disbiotic changes of intestinal micro flora. Among patients with pneumonia revealing frequency of the third level dysbiosis is 44.4 %, and besides quantitative violations there occurs also a high-quality disintegration of components of micro ecological system.

Pneumonia is the leading cause of death in children worldwide and the great majority of these deaths occur in resource-limited settings. Effective case management is an important strategy to reduce pneumonia related morbidity and mortality in children.
