Abstract:
Periodontal disease is a disease of periodontal tissues of a dystrophic nature. Periodontal tissues include tissues whose main task is to hold the tooth in the jaw bone. These include: the gum; the ligamentous apparatus that holds the tooth — the periodontium; the tooth cement — the outer surface of the tooth covering its root; and the alveolar part of the jaw bone.

Abstract:
Bisphosphonates are widely used in the treatment of many medical conditions, such as osteoporosis, multiple myeloma, Paget's disease, etc. However, side effect has been documented in the published data during the past years, osteonecrosis of the jaw in patients receiving long-term bisphosphonate therapy. Although pathogenesis of BRONJ(bisphophonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw) is not yet fully understood, it is currently known to be a disease associated with suppressed bone turnover by bisphopbonate. Recent literature has indicated a similar association with nonbisphosphonate drugs used i

Teeth are small parts located in the upper or lower jaw. Each tooth is embedded in the gums, with its roots penetrating the gum line and entering the jawbone. The total number of teeth in the upper and lower jaw is 32. Teeth are divided into five types, each with a different function. Maintaining dental health is very important, as there are various dental diseases caused by leftover food consumed. Therefore, researchers have developed a system for diagnosing dental diseases by collecting symptoms that have been gathered through interviews with experts and patients, as well as collecting journ

The patients usually present with incidentally discovered high calcium level and systemic or skeletal manifestations. In young patients with primary hyperparathyroidism, familial syndromes including multiple endocrine neoplasia types 1, 2, and 4 and hyperparathyroidism jaw tumor syndrome should be considered. Gaucher disease is an inborn error of metabolism resulting from the deficiency of the enzyme glucocerebrosidase and consequent accumulation of glucocerebroside within the lysosomes of macrophages. The clinical presentation is very diverse, depending on the age of onset and the severity of the disease, and results from the progressive infiltration of lipid-laden cells in various organs. Common manifestations of Gaucher disease include enlarged liver and/or spleen (hepatosplenomegaly), bone marrow disease (pancytopenia) and bone abnormalities, which are extremely variable and can affect multiple

Differential diagnosis of bacterial osteomyelitis (BOM) and chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) is challenging. Pediatric CNO can be diagnosed at around 10 years of age and when CNO cases involve only the jaw, it is difficult to make a diagnosis in a young child. A 3-year-old female developed CNO at the jaw alone. She presented with no fever, right jaw pain, mild trismus, and a preauricular facial swelling around the right mandible. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a hyperostotic right mandible, with osteolytic and sclerotic changes associated with periosteal reaction. At first, we suspe

Coronavirus disease can cause respiratory complications and a systemic hyper inflammation. One of the most proposed treatments for COVID-19 still is the use of corticotherapy or antiresorptive drugs. However, these drugs have positive effects to COVID-19 patients, they also are associated with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw. Therefore, older adults requiring procedures involving bone need detailed anamnesis to avoid osteonecrosis of the jaw after infection with COVID-19.

Some 200 years ago, workers developed gingivitis, periodontal disease, alveolar crest bone sequestra, and draining fistulae after exposure to phosphorous fumes and phosphorous paste in the manufacture of the friction match. Many also suffered loss of teeth and pathologic fracture of the mandible. Known as “phossy jaw,” the constellation rather abruptly vanished following the International Berne Convention of 1906. Today, “bis-phossy jaw” (bisphosphonate-induced osteonecrosis of the jaw) has surfaced with pathologic fractures and other features common to its predecessor, “phossy jaw.” This mode
